Consider this a crash course on card draw in commander; we talk about what we expect from it at certain costs and timings, and shout out our own personal favorites as well!

New favorite of mine is Garruk's Uprising. Dinosaurs, Dragons, and Ghired tokens, I am drawing 3-5 cards per turn besides the draw upon ETB
It's pretty good, and if you're on a budget it's amazing

The thing about Mind's Eye is, sometimes you have a ton of mana but nothing to play. Especially if you're not playing Blue and good draw options are more limited. Then you topdeck another land and just rage quit. Those times - which happen more than anyone wants to admit - are perfect for something like Mind's Eye - sink the startup cost when you have nothing better to play, and reap the rewards cheaply until someone finally gets fed up and nukes it. I mean, the card is eight bucks on TCGplayer for a reason.
Great video! Another one of my pet "draw" cards is Fact or Fiction. It brings so much interaction and fun to the table, it´s one of my go to spells in blue!
We love FaF, especially in a deck with graveyard synergies
I think the unmentioned value of a card like harmonize is that they are more reliable than most other card draw spells. I know that if I draw a harmonize I'm going to be able to refill my hand with no strings attached. That can be important in a Green deck considering most other Green card draw is reliant on creatures- powerful, but not always reliable.

It's the best low level casual mono green card draw. Other than that its pretty terrible.
I was hoping you guys would mention Oblation and Commit // Memory. Both cards are removal stapled to card draw, and they're so versatile. If you play Izzet I really enjoy Fevered Visions. It's a 3 drop enchantment that draws you a card the turn it drops, and it slowly kills your opponents.
I've seen both be good, you really want some card draw denial with memory though
Two cards I love (in the right deck) are Regal Force and Greater Good. If you’ve never gotten a Regal Force into play immediately after an Avenger of Zendikar or sacrificed a Woodfall Primus or Hogack to Greater Good, you haven’t lived.
*please note that I don’t think Avenger goes in every deck, it can definitely be a trap.

My favourite new draw spell is “Teferi’s Ageless Insight”, It has quickly become a quintessential addition to my Locust God build. I was able to replace “Alhamaret’s Archive” and move the more valuable artifact into a “varina lich Queen” deck where it’s life gain ability is not wasted. Seems like people are slow to notice what a staple this enchantment card is, I bought 12.
Honorary mention to “Reconnaissance Mission” strictly better than coastal piracy at a fraction of the price.
Archive is SO good in Varina.
Also Bident of Thassa for the Reconnaissance Mission too (honestly probably run all 3) - though being Legendary has downsides too
I’m very glad that I pulled 3 teferis ageless insight. It is great in enchantress and really any deck with blue should probably consider running it. I just put one in my jhoira deck too.

I'd probably recommend Return of the Wildspeaker, it's a fairly flexible card, can use it as a pump spell or drawing for your biggest creature (Instant speed)
Tribals could probably run Vanquisher's Banner.. oh also Great Henge is pretty op for any deck in green that does creature stuff
Endless Atlas isn't bad (also just got reprinted), Keep Watch can be pretty good for aggressive decks (or against them even)
Keep Watch is insanely good. Very underrated and unnoticed card, but not for much longer, I think.
Ive been putting return of the wildspeaker in alot more decks for that very reason. It can act as a decent draw spell or an overrun at instant speed. Solid stuff
Distant Melody is also great for tribal decks. Can be a one mana less Shamani Revelation (without the lifegain).
I use it in my Sliver Overlord deck, as well as Talrand (naming drakes).
Return slaps
The enchantment Insight is balls to the wall good. I often times in Cedh pods my insight gets killed before study.
three words: Into the Story! I love this card in Commander.
It's a lot of draw for cheap, AND it's budget too
@@NitpickingNerds this and the new card inspired idea! Paired with thought vessel, or req tower, or wizard class. (Anything with no limit hand size) The down side is basically nil
Phyrexian Arena is one of my pet cards, I love it. Best when it's out in turn one with a Dark Ritual :)
Jace, the Mind Sculptor was the bomb last weekend where I run him into my Niv Mizzet spellslinger deck. Had Fiery Emancipation out and Lightning Bolt-ing three times for 0 while fishing for new can trips or cheap spells or even removal was fantastic.
That's it, I'm done now defending my picks against you haha :D

Mind's eye is ok. If you're top decking for whatever reason, you haven't used your lands. So you can get 3+ cards by the time it's your turn again. Possibly 5 or 6.
Pirates pillage and seize the spoils. Are nice for red draw. The treasures help you mana fix for other spells especially 3 color
One of the best enchantment spells I've discovered in a few months is Psychic Possession. Enchanting the right player, you draws an incredible amount of cards. Whenever it enters the game, it guarantees draws. I tried it instead of Rhystic Study and I must say that it gave me much more satisfaction. In later stages, Rhystic Study turns out to be a dead card while Possession does not, because it guarantees 1 draw in the enchanted player's draw step. And if you charm someone with Varina, or Tymna, or Ludevic, or any draw engine in the command zone, fun is guaranteed. It also has the advantage of not creating hate like Rhystic Study by standing there asking "do you pay 1?" And the price! 30 bucks for Study vs 2 bucks for Psychic.
The only place i like mind's eye is my kruphix deck, where the mana spent is literally a non issue

I like minds eye in my mono white deck. Just bc its mono white but all of my other decks wont touch it.
Used to run Minds Eye in budget Daretti for a while so it became 1 mana for 1 card every turn which is pretty decent for a mono red/artifact deck. However, when i finally got an Alhammaret's Archive it did eventually get cut.
@@aaronsamuel501 yeah it may just be that my playgroup likes to draw alot of cards. I had it in a simic deck as a test and drew 13 cards in a games turn cycle around turn 7 after ramping like crazy. I went to win thay game bc of it. Idk depends on who likes to draw the most

Yo Beezy maybe try making a Rielle deck and then u can have lots of fun with the Nezahal. So good in there!! Then u can draw cards while discarding jumpstart/flashback cards and get soo much card advantage. Izzet something you'd consider?
Love the pun. I do have a mono blue poopy durdle deck that I might throw Nezahal in just to shake things up

Faithless looting actually costs you a card. You end up with less cards in hand.
I was thinking that but flashback is basically another card.
Yeah I see people talk about it when talking about card draw a lot but it is really just card selection and even when you flashback it you just cantrip.
use it in a madness or graveyard matters deck. It doesn't cost you cards at all if you use your graveyard is an extension of your hand
Yeah I think if you are getting value off of it then it's more card advantage than anything

How about Borrowing 100,000 Arrows? Fits the 3cc rule for sorcery speed, and can generate some serious value.
18:24 / 18:28 No, you don't want Harmonize. You want Cathartic Reunion (etc) and copy it (and hopefully discard a Grave Titan as additional cost).
Im binging your videos so sorry for being 9 months late: Fringe case I know, but I do like Minds eye for Kruphix. Cards like blue suns zenith are ideal ill admit, but when colorless mana is practically infinite, minds eye is great. 10 colorless mana is easier to spend than 2 blue. Also any artifact draw is forgiveable if youre on a budget/playing boros colors or both. Love your work though, appreciate you two for helping me be a better player
“One with the Wind” is great if you can reliably have a creature with flying. 2 mana for 2 cards.

After I built varina, I learned just how much I hate drawing using card draw spells. I strictly only use 2 cmc spells anything more than that I just don't feel good playing.
So I’m not the only one with nezahal, as my child!? if I’m playing blue, Nezahal goes in.
Suprised Guardian project wasn't put up next to beast whisperer. May as well have both! (garruk's uprising is okay too.)
I run Harmonize in mono green ezuri, 1. because it ramps like crazy and 2. theres not a ton of other options if you don't have a board state -- and in Ghave where I can ramp a ton but focuses on tokens so things like beast whisperer isn't great.
Yeah we have guardian project right up there with beast whisperer, they’re pretty similar! Garruk’s Uprising seems like a cool card to try somewhere
Great episode! What do you think about Lifecrafter's Bestiary? Seems like a trap for me. Applying the same reasoning used for Mind's Eye: one has to pay 4 for 1 card, 5 for 2, 6 for 3 etc... And the fact that you have to pay on cast (as opposed to Mentor of the Meek for example) can lead to big blowouts (speaking out of personal experience!).
Bestiary is alright, I've played it before but it got overshadowed pretty hard by Beast Whisperer and Guardian Project coming out back to back. The free scry does change the value math a little bit but it's definitely not your best option and as a result probably doesn't make a lot of decks anymore. Way better than minds eye though :P

kinda wish theree was a free spell that allowed your commander to fight all target enemy creatures and if they have no creatures fights them.
or just make it a coordinated tag. where the spell is free when commander is out. which would be a amasing sorcery spell even if it only draws you 2 cards

These are all great cards! What are you thinking! Except for divination. Divination? Absolutely Garbage! Love Arcanis the Omnipotent though, and so should everyone. Fantastic card!
The only multiplayer deck I use Jace, the Mindsculpter is Aminatou Miracles.

I betting breezy a sabres fan and Joe a either a bills or bison fan. Mainly for both because how the jersy would look on them

I don't know that I necessarily consider bolas's citadel as card draw. It really doesn't get you another card in your hand. Especially if you top deck lands after you've already played your land. Don't get me wrong, it's a good card and it certain situations it can win you the game, but I don't think it's really card draw
Alex Diaz that is why we defined card draw for the video. It is understandable to say it isn’t but under the definition we used it fit
I just built Wort the raidmother. It does play harmonize! Then again, its a burn deck, so not really a powerful version of Wort.
Nice video, but I need advice that this video does not answer. I have slots to fill in my red blue Rograkh, son of rohgahh equipment deck. I hate rhystic studies and don't want to play it. So what would be best between mask of memory, Tome of legends, loyal Drake or maybe brainstorm, any other blue spell ? I play reverse engineer, I feel card like Vedalken Archmage or Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain are to slow spending a turn to play it and next turns I barely get a card a turn, I replaced it with loyal drake. Is mask of memory the best over all even if I play blue ?
What do you guys think of village rites from M21 it’s a common card that for 1 black mana you can sacrifice a creature and draw 2 cards at instant speed
Ive been sliding this one into my sacrifice decks lately. Its pretty decent value for the 1 at instant speed
Ricky Schaffner hell ya man and in the face of removal in commander there is tons of removal so if someone casts a path to exile on your creature you can go in response cast Village Rites sacrificing the creature instead to draw 2 cards meaning that your creature goes to the graveyard allowing you to maybe bring it back later in the game or remove it from your graveyard to use an ability on another creature
People aren't playing Jace for his ult. His brainstorm at worst in decks that want him can use it and then crack their fetch to get rid of 2 dead cards in their hand. At best, top deck manipulation can win you the game through cheating high mana costs cards, Yuriko triggers, Miracles or some weird interactions on board.

It's a decent card, I've seen it be pretty great. The only downside is it's five mana but if your curve can handle it then go for it

Phyrexian Arena will draw cards no matter when you play it as long as it stays on the battlefield. You don't have to invest once it is out and you draw two cards every turn.
I will play with it and see if I change my mind on it like I did with mind's eye.

Thoughtcast is good if you have a high artifact count, reverse engineer i would say yes to but only if you have a lot of random artifacts that dont tap for anything

It really depends on the deck

Most mono white decks are creature heavy and if that’s the case I’d run another way to find skull clamp for example

The problem is that you need ramp to be effective and white is not very good at it
We think it’s still pretty bad. You’re better off playing another way to tutor up better card draw
I like Mind's Eye. It did good in my Sharuum Deck. It is true, that it's not Mana Efficient, but it's repeatable! If you can draw 3 for 3 every turn, I think it's good. And it's an artifact, so you can search it, or refurbish it

@@NitpickingNerds planeswalkers can be diplomatic targets just make a deal with one player then the other 2 have to either deal with or ignore Jace, and you draw attention away from the player you made a deal with
I also have the esper blink planeswalker aminatou, for blink or top card set up
Aminatou is pretty cool, I wish her +1 was a bit better

@@NitpickingNerds verdilion cliche use to be my mono blue commander, with bounce creatures and spells back before people could choose to move their commander back to the command zone, so I bounce the biggest threatening commander to hand flash in verdilion cliche, put it on the bottom, then, unless they shuffle, tunnel vision the commander, made mono blue for all my jaces to be in
3rd again
