The thing with Adam Rupp is that he isn't just a beatboxer. He's an *entertainer*. He sings as well and holds his own with a group of trained vocalists. He did probably the most layered, complex a cappella arrangement ever -- Home Free's "Do You Hear What I Hear?" Heck, he even learned the Korean lyrics to "Gangnam Style" for a throwaway bit HF did in their stage show. He's multitalented and is the heartbeat of Home Free. There might be people who are technically better beatboxers, but what he contributes to Home Free is unbeatable.

Adam is pretty awesome, particularly when you consider that he's self-taught, and basically took up beat-boxing because he was starting a vocal group for the church talent show with his brother and his friends, and decided he'd rather do that than sing... Of course, an important thing is that his primary purpose is to be the drumkit and sound effects for a group - I've no doubt that there are beat-boxers out there who can do wilder things, but that's not what he's trying to achieve.
Watched both videos and Adam wins it hands down. Adam's work is electrifying. Before I discovered Home Free I had no interest in beat boxing or a cappella music. Now, I'm addicted to Home Free and Adam Rupp's beat boxing performances. So exciting, both in produced work and the recorded live performances. And seriously, beat boxing with choreography? Adam is a beast.
Beatboxing is usually a guy making funny mouth noises; always disgusted me, even with PTX. Until Home Free, where Adam actually sounds MUCH more like real instruments, to the point you forget there isn't any!

One thing that goes without notice, is that he's doing this Solo halfway through the Home Free Concert! Now, I haven't watched your Guy yet, but does he do the same thing? You already mentioned that your Guy's Video isn't as long, so my pre-viewing your Guy's Video Feedback, looks like Adam does twice as much and during a Home Free Concert! He even Dances and Entertains (with and to) the Audience! So now Your Guy's turn!
I think it's great that you are going to stack your favorite. Up against Adam. Others have conceded. That said, Adam is the heartbeat of Home Free and does very little for solo work. Perfect fit for HF.
Of course this is all in good fun. Neither are the king, that title goes to the OG Rahzel who I am SURE inspired them both. Granted they have modernized on that OG sound. I love them all! All are AMAZING musical talents.
Believe it or not, Adam is self-taught. In one of the behind the scenes videos on Home Free's channel, we go into his house and he shows us the first book he used to learn basic beatboxing. Apparently, his brother, Chris, was also learning, but Adam was so much better that he starting doing the beatboxing for the group. He has obviously improved greatly since the group was founded in 2000/2001. It is my understanding that he has won awards for his beatboxing, too. He also taught the other members of Home Free some basic beatboxing which can be seen in the video of their live performance of 9 to 5 with the beatboxing breakdown. You might want to check it out just for fun.
Thom (Tom) Thumb also does Billy Jean with the singing. Didgeridoo is a thin log or branch that, traditionally, was fire treated and allowed to be hollowed out but termites. Any holes left were filled in with wax. It is then "blown" into like a brass instrument and those who can really master it can breath in while still blowing (circular breathing). When done correctly it is amazing and can be continued for long periods. This is, by no means, Adams full repertoire but I'm looking forward to part two. I will be objective but will also be listening to see how well I think your guy would fit into a group as well as the solo performance.
his mirror jacket was custom-made by i think the same designer who works for bruno mars! he said it gets really hot when he just stays there shining for a while lol
Unfortunately the cell phone doesn’t pick up well the bass sounds, but you kind of get it. Adam’s favourite beatboxers are Reeps1 and Beardyman. I’m sure every beatboxer is influenced by Rahzel tho. Thanks for doing this!
Chance was actually doing a mouth harp (also called a Jew's harp & jaw harp) not a didgeridoo. The mouth harp is very common in old Southern or Bluegrass music such as the song Man of Constant Sorrow.
Adam impresses me with the energy and musicianship he brings to Home Free. He pushes them to another level. And is consistent for a 90 minute show, the numerous shows they do per year, and over two decades.
The “taxi driver” sings, does a little beatboxing, does a little singing, does a little beatboxing, pfft. Not impressed, sorry. Oh, and by the way, Adam Rupp sings, too. Very well, in fact. With a top tier a cappella group, Home Free. Sorry, no comparison, whatsoever.
