Most locations in this movie are within 5 miles of my place of birth. I went to school at the rest camp in Kerkrade (located in the abbey of Rolduc) and I used to play in the woods opposite the Laura coalmine in Eygelshoven where Ike inspected the troops. Awesome, thanks for uploading!
Do you know how I can find military records and documents about my grandfather? He fought in the Ninth Infantry, 26th Field Artillery Battalion as a forward observer and radio operator. John L. Babbitt from Massachusetts. He was award the Purple Heart twice and the bronze star, as well as a number of others I can’t recall. I know he did some genuinely heroic things over there, as did many other men… and women. I have some pretty amazing stories, he had a story published back home about a short conversation he was allowed to have with his brother, William, over the radio. A surprise his c/o had set up when he got wind that William would be in-country and within radio range. Something I believe they were not “allowed “ to do. First time they’d spoke in two years, lasted just a couple minutes. Then about a week later, while moving through the hedge rows, my great uncle, William was shot and killed by a nazi sniper. I can’t even find the article online.
This is insane, all these films should be online with the National Archive, in HD. The most important War in the history of the world, and if it wasn't for private citizens we would'nt be able to see any of this.
My father was 2nd armored from north africa, sicily(silver star) , france, belgium and germany. 1st american unit in berlin. NEVER talked about it. Only found out his service and awards when we were forced to place him into a VA facility due to his alzheimer's.
My daddy was a graveyard worker after war in Maastricht! My father met my mother on a 3 day leave, she was Dutch they married in Amsterdam Holland, my daddy was an Americano my mother and father returned to my daddies post in Fortbennniny Georgia where l was born , l wonder if they have any clips of the place and times in Maastricht during my daddies time there given his former bodies a proper burial or sending them home thank you for these videos 💁♀️🙏💙
Never seen this before. Even the supplydepot at Maastricht(3.30) is included in this film. I wonder if the observation plane was filmed at the Air Force base on the St.Pietersberg ! I do think It was, because the reporter was already in the town to film the supply depot. However, awful to see the wounded soldiers. Historical films like this one should be brought to-gather without the risk of losing them.
I would love to see this same video from the German perspective. What were they thinking? Did they have enough food and water? Medical supplies? Or even ammo? Cold, muddy, and hungry is no way to fight a war. I wish Hitler could have been put on trial.

Does anyone know what types of helmets those British soldiers are wearing @ 17:50?
2:00. All that food is only enough for a week. Just imagine the logistics involved.
These are priceless and should be shown is schools..
So should "War is a racket" by Smedley Butler.
