There are legitimate issues with TLOU2, most story analysis videos will point out all inconsistencies with characters and manipulation of emotions with retcons of the first game and forced sequences that players don’t want to take part in.
The last of us 2 ending was trash , then they kill the most favorable character, then they make Ellie gay , and half the game you play a steroids of a women .
@@Greaseball_gamer those can be reasons to not like the game but I’m saying the incoherent messaging and inconsistent actions and motives of characters are terrible in the game and the developers way of manipulating players into sympathising with Abby just doesn’t work cause she comes off looking like a psycho.
Horribly written characters on Abby side no one gave a fuck about. Bringing a known pregnant women on a mission in a post apocalyptic world filled with looters crazies and infected. Super smart idea. I’ve said a million times. If they would have shown you from the beginning of them making the game you would play as a new character make you start as that character and then do some of the things they did you would have felt a sense of omg I love both of these characters this sucks did fuck. But they didn’t and tries to force you into a mess of a story and make you care about Abby even though she sucks and is just a cunt.
@@Greaseball_gamer why in the everliving fuckness Ellie being gay would be an issue? Out of all of the legitimate reasons to hate the game, saying that is so fucking weird. Same thing with Abby, just stop being so weird about the characters

I'll offer a take on Last of Us 2. The game really tries to hammer home this 'cycle of revenge' message as if they're the first ones to ever come up with the concept. Red Dead Redemption 2 did that theme much better just 2 years earlier. Also making you play for hours as the character that killed Joel just comes off to me as the writers smelling their own farts. Who honestly thinks that's a good idea?
I think it was more a message of forgiveness. Ellie coming to terms with trying to forgive Joel but it was too late because he died the next day. That’s why Ellie sparred Abbey at the end because he last memory of Joel was one where she talked about forgiving him even though he’d do it all over again.
Moist Critikal said something I believe to be very true, deep down, it’s a great game. It’s just there’s no real line of reasoning and structure to the story. If they had made you play as her before Joel’s death (aka at the beginning of the game), a lot of stuff would’ve made more sense and the player wouldn’t be mad that the game all of a sudden thrusts you into playing as the person who killed Joel. It may have been intentional, I don’t know, but I do agree the game would’ve felt better to play if they killed Joel after you had already played as Abby and you would understand her side of the story instead of having the shock (and in some cases hatred) at Joel’s death at the start

As someone who was on the TLoU2 hate wagon and nowadays I'm just "whatever" with it, what I can say is I hated the way the marketing went for the game, I remember the antagonistic feeling from the devs and publications towards a certain portion of the fanbase of the first game. This was the main reason I was hostile towards it from the start. After the launch of the game, my main problems with the story can be bogged down to "I don't like the melodramatic structure". They made Abby to be the most hatable character from the get go, we go on a hunt after her, and then they make us play with her so that we understand her reason and whatnot. Horrible decision... asking people to sympathize with a character they already dislike was bold, but stupid. And then in the end they don't give us a choice (which I think would've been the better option), Ellie makes a decision and we are supposed to accept it. I personally think, if they had gone with a different structure, one where you played as Abby, liked her and the she killed Joel, it would've been much better, because now we would've been conflicted about her. But instead what we got was many hours of the devs trying to make us like her. And I think it speaks volumes to how well they made people like Abby the compilation of people trying to get killed as Abby by Ellie. Also the way the media treated fans that didn't like the idea of having Abby kill Joel and whatnot as if they were monster, sexists and whatnot didn't help at all, and for me was one of the main reasons I was on the hatewagon on that year. Years later, all I can say is that I respect the fact they had a vision and went through with it, but I didn't like the premise of their vision and didn't like the clear attempt at making us like Abby after clearly antagonizing her. Also, let's be real, Ellie letting Abby go was asinine. She went on a murderous spree to get to Abby, she killed many hundreds of people (all in the name of avenging her father figure), she even left to go after Abby after Dina said she would leave her if she did, and then when she had the chance to kill the only person she really had the "right" to kill for vengeance she let her go. "Shame about the sea of corpses you created trying to get here, but congrats you grew as a person and let go the person you hated the most".
They didn't give you a choice about killing the doctor in the first game, why would they give you a choice now? You're not playing as "the player", you're playing as characters with stories set in stone

I am still a bit pissed that Returnal didn’t make the list for 2020. Also, Hollow Knight and Nier: Automata were amazing games in 2017 that didn’t make it. And personally DMC5 was worth making the list in 2019.

I think the last of us 2 was an extremely well made game… but they killed Joel and that seriously ruined that game for me! I have tried to get back into it but I just can’t get over that they killed Joel with a golf club
Before I get called out on The Last of Us 2 Hate please hear me out, GAMEPLAY is AMAZING! Animation and Graphics are just top notch, it's entertaining af when you play the action/aggressive gameplay, but giving us a character we don't give a flying f about, a character that came out of nowhere, completely throwing everything was built about Joel from the 1st game it was just not it for most, someone once mentioned that imagine after Arthur's death in RDR2 they let you play as Micah?, at least Micah was known through the entire game, Abby suddenly showed up as the daughter of the surgeon, no build up for her character to appear whatsoever, so I get the hate the story gets since most of the players who played the 1st part played for the story. Thanks for reading this and I apologize for the lengthy response. Love the content Luke, keep it coming man, glad I found your channel.
That is literally the reason I dont want to ever play Last of Us 2. I don't wanna see Joel die in that manner and id rather just pretend it didnt happen. Also after now seeing spoilers, the idea that you don't even get revenge in the end because "Revenge is bad etc" its just nonsense in my opinion. Technologically and graphically though, the game might be the best thing ive ever seen, even now years later. Absolutely deserved GOTY for that alone.
I think there is definitely an argument to be made for Ghost of Tsushima deserving to win 2020. It's much more innovative and has an amazing story AND is just as technologically impressive
Lukes list matches very much majority of gamers. I am gaming since 2008 and it all started with assassins creed 1 on my pc and i found a beautiful world which you can teleport to with the push of a button. I still teleport to this world whenever i am too bored of this shit real world 😂
I disagree it Gow winning 2018 over Rdr2... for me Gow was a truely well made game, but truth be told it didnt even hold my interest long enough to see it through to completion... but Rdr2 on the other hand advanced the idea of what videogames can be through a well crafted detailed world, superb acting and writing on par with some of the best we've ever seen in hollywood, in an interactive way that playing as Arthur Morgan and the connection formed through the sim type of gameplay they included that a movie could never replicate. I've NEVER, ever had a videogame evoke sincere emotion from me before or since in the way Rdr2 did. The general criticism of Rdr2 is the gameplay, but thats really only if you hold the game to the standard of a genre, but what the game accomplishes exceeds genres and individually deserves to be viewed as art. The Witcher 3 is a phenomenal game ( finally doing my first playthrough after waiting for the "nextgen" update ) truly a masterpiece, who's detractors criticize the gameplay s being bad. But we it's fans give those criticisms a pass because it's an "RPG" RedDead gets a pass because it defies traditional genres , and is an evolution of videogames as an artform. Gow was just a really good solidly made game.
We’ve seen phenomenal performances and writing from games like The Last of Us Portal 2. God of War did not reinvent the genre but it did take the series in a direction that was new and risky for fans. Rdr 2 was basically what you’d expect, and while i love it i will acknowledge it has some pacing issues and lack of gameplay variety.
I love GoW but RDR2 was a game changer for detail in open world games. Incredible story and characters. Put so much time just exploring and seeing things in that game. Yeah it had some pacing issues at the end but GoW was very rinse repeat in a lot of areas with an incredible story.
@@Mmlujan rdr2 was also quite rinse and repeat? right? riding your horse to a mission, for example taking out odriscolls. (literally the first 3 missions)
@@Stephen1873 well with that logic every game is. Mario you stomp on goombas, Pokémon you catch monsters, Zelda you explore, Spider-Man you swing, halo you shoot aliens. Now what makes you not think about that concept of rinse and e repeat is how well they hide it and how well they made a game loop that you forget it’s the same thing over and over. But GoW was go through corridors fight bad guys over and over, it did it incredibly well but no variety, hence the meme of fighting trolls over and over again. In rdr2 I could go about things in different ways, tons of unique side quests and stories. A world that felt alive with incredible voice acting. Again love GoW but I don’t think it will stand the test of time like rdr2 will.
Shadow of Mordor should have won. The witcher 3 deserved it. uncharted 4 not winning was very weird. Even though I think Horizon should have won that year, I understand why Zelda won. Red dead was so amazing but God of war was just better. Sekiro is not for everyone but I understand why it won it. Days gone was ok but it doesn't deserve it. 2020 was my year of gaming. Even though I love everything that came out that year I think Ghost of Tsushima should have won that year. I love the last of us but Ghost was fresh in so many ways. Deathloop reviews were so misleading. It was such an average game. I will play it takes 2 hopefully this year with my wife to see if it is as good as everyone says. I have not played Elden ring. It is just not my type of game but I get why it won. For me god of war Ragnarok is Goty. All of these is just preference though. Not everything is for everyone.
I respect your opinion but WHAT ARE YOU ON!!!!! Horizon Zero Dawn was painfully mid and had many problems. Zelda BOTW totally deserved GOTY. BOTW isn’t prefect(TOTK upgraded it in every way) but BOTW at the time was the pinnacle of open world games and a new and fresh direction for the Zelda series. Maybe you haven’t played it(if you haven’t you should or TOTK) but that game was so fun and the gameplay was on such another level it puts RDR2 and Horizon to shame(again gameplay wise). I personally think Nier: Automata should have been nominated over Horizon and PUBG. Also TLOU2 was a pretty bad story and just okay gameplay.
GOTY for 2020 should have gone to Ghost of Tsushima .. awesome main story and then the multiplayer game play was so good with little bugs and great gameplay with 4 players with diff abilities.. can’t wait for Ghost of Tsushima 2 if that is in the works
I just don't like playing from the point of view of Abby because of who she killed I think it makes sense narratively why she did it but I would've preferred to play as one of the other party members, also I feel like they should've made the buff characters constantly snacking or at least when they have a meal give them more than one burrito because seriously how am I and this other dude looking like Greek gods off of one burrito for breakfast, like at least make these burritos massive or give them like two or three.
I dont think that game does anything really that special that sets it apart, its great dont get me wrong, but like, goty's have to be special, it takes two is special, elden ring is special, ff7r is not special

Ellie was always gay, her flashback at the end of the game reminded her of the forgiveness that she granted Joel and he died the next day. She let go of that revenge and forgave abbey. Also Joel was a great character but he was incredibly selfish
theres a lot of objective reasons why last of us 2 isnt good. You can say the same thing as you did for red dead. Its a 2010 game with good visuals. No replayability. The revenge story is not made well. The characters being unlikable is a real thing. And so on and on. And sorry but the 2019 games sekiro and re2 remake being ,,fine,,? These 2 games provide almost endless amount of gameplay with replayability.
I feel like the two things I've disliked most about some of the Last Of Us Part II is how its detractors offer rather surface level criticisms or they take a complex narrative and grossly oversimplify it. It's a story that hugely benefits from being told the way it's told through a video game rather than a TV show, something even the showrunner of the HBO show acknowledges and is very aware of given his comments on potentially adapting Part II.
Yess finish lou2 was dreadful I remember I had like abt 2hrs left an I just kept asking myself do I need to finish it or can I just watch a video ended up finishing it it was a good game at times some I just wanna to rush through it drags but the ending too omg soo annoyed like shoot her in the head idc give the player a choice at least an the lil kid smoke his ass 🤣I was heated man some pretty dope cutscenes thlo
Not really a big fan of The last of us 2. I don’t like the story lay out they should have done Abby side of the story first it would have flowed better. The game is really bloated and needs to be trimmed down. Abby character design is awful it really pulls me out of the immersion when she takes her jacket off and You have to look at her huge arms. building and maintaining that kinda muscle is so hard doing that in a zombie apocalypse ok yeah right. A lot of the dialogue in the game is super cringe . The pregnant lady on patrol is so dumb watching my pregnant sister-in-law waddling around yeah that would never happen. And it’s super depressing .

Persona 5 was released multiplatform on PS3 and PS4 in 2016. Don't know what you mean by it releasing on ps3 in 2013, it was just announced back then.
I think the last of us 2 was an extremely well made game… but they killed Joel and that seriously ruined that game for me! I have tried to get back into it but I just can’t get over that they killed Joel with a golf club
Not into the doom games? I half expected for Luke to at least acknowledge there existence.
Sekiro was easily game of the year for me in 2019. But i def get why some didn’t connect with it as much
that can be said for all games ever made
That is literally the reason I dont want to ever play Last of Us 2.
"Red dead redemption 2 feels like a 2010 game" is actually the first ridiculous statement i heard from this dude
What did he say that was wrong bro
I think there is definitely an argument to be made for Ghost of Tsushima deserving to win 2020. It's much more innovative and has an amazing story AND is just as technologically impressive
I love the plot twist in deathloop
Lukes list matches very much majority of gamers. I am gaming since 2008 and it all started with assassins creed 1 on my pc and i found a beautiful world which you can teleport to with the push of a button. I still teleport to this world whenever i am too bored of this shit real world 😂
Skillup video on TLOU2 is a good argument on why its not so good.
But we it's fans give those criticisms a pass because it's an "RPG"
RedDead gets a pass because it defies traditional genres , and is an evolution of videogames as an artform.
@@Brandon-rb4sm it reinvented itself, no one said it reinvented a genre
P5 didn’t actually come out for the ps3 in 2013. Came out in 2016 in Japan, for ps3 and ps4. Came out for both in 2017 in the west
RE2 was just okay and you didn't like Sekiro!? Ouch, that hurt, Luke
RE2 was my game of the year, did not expect it to be so great!
thats just an L take on many levels yeah
You're crazy Red Dead 2 should have won in 2018
Players didn’t have enough time to appreciate the game. God of War had released way earlier.
@@thefallenvalley4340no it’s just overrated
I agree with pretty much all of this. Never finished Ghost of Tsushima but was just thinking about getting back into it.
I know we need these vids short but I wish the editor didn't cut the babe&baby part
Titanfall 2 is really underrated. Story is short and sweet!
2016 was surprising 😂
GOTY for 2020 should have gone to Ghost of Tsushima .. awesome main story and then the multiplayer game play was so good with little bugs and great gameplay with 4 players with diff abilities.. can’t wait for Ghost of Tsushima 2 if that is in the works
last of us 2 isn't just bad they kill joel at the very start but, the pacing has to be one of the worst i can think in the last decade
Ghost of Tsushima > TLOU2 and I'm not a hater. I've played TLOU2 twice so don't come at me.
Nothing bad with that, for me tlou 2 had the better story, it's heavy and sad
Woah didn’t know that’s how you thought about rdr 2😢.
Icl that’s my favourite game of all time.
3:30
Super mario Odyssey UNDERWHELMING?!?!!? Horizon zero dawn i fully understand, but Odyssey? We musta been playing different games I guess
2020 shouldve been FF7 remake hands down.
I dont think that game does anything really that special that sets it apart, its great dont get me wrong, but like, goty's have to be special, it takes two is special, elden ring is special, ff7r is not special
The last of us 2 ending was trash after all you do , you just give up on revenge at the end , sorry but the Ellie We knew would have gone through with it .
then they kill the most favorable character, and they make Ellie gay , and half of the game you play a steroids of a women .
Bruh days gone as a GotY is insane lol you can love any game but that game had so many issues. It took me forever to beat it bc it was so bland.
wolfenstein wasn't a nomination in2014?
Animal Crossing was snubbed
stray is the new deathloop im like how is this game a 97 on steam
Last of us 2 is a 2010 game too.
His last of us 2 take has made me respect him less
Bloodborne should have won
Every time this dude has a great take, the next sentence he’ll say some dumbass shit💀💀💀
"Because its woke" is such a weird reason to not like a game
