My dad bought me one of those at a garage sale for 60 bucks. I remember playing it all the time but I could never beat the first boss. Back then the game boy advance and the PSP were very popular. I thought a game gear was one of those low budget knock off brands. Wasn't until recently that I realized how blessed I really was.
+andregent1 Back when games were all about having fun and less about competition. I couldn't get enough of this game as a kid. I think Game Gear should have caught on instead of Game Boy IMO.
This game was so good :) I just loved gliding and grapping. Those enemies at 18:47 were quite funny. When you hit the guy, he made kinda of a humping/shagging move.
I love how just about every person commenting is around the same age range. I loved this game, I got it for Christmas in 1993 and beat it on a road trip from NY to Miami. The one for NES was good too, but this game was easier I think. I watched almost the entire video minus a few fast forwards, and I didn't see you get hit once. Good job
I had this game and loved it! My wife sold her game gear last year to buy a Nintendo DS. It was a bad move in my opinion but I still have my game boy color.
I spent a whole Christmas Holiday playing this in 1992-93 -somewhere around there. I remember seeing the commercials for the Atari Lynx game and being super jealous…and then sooo excited when this appeared…still my favorite Batman movie other than Dark Knight (obviously two very different takes). I love the weird Christmas background to this film- it was so different and surreal…it’s really nothing like the comics or other films- it’s Batman shown thekugh a Tim Burton Filter, and that’s actually pretty damn cool. I hated that you just threw things to attack, I wanted a beat ‘em up…but it actually is a really nice little game, especially considering the tiny sprites and weak hardware. It looks really cool - that snow effect is still pretty awesome, and I loved the penguin levels. The SNES is probably the best Batman Returns game, but this little guy is always going to have a place in my heart. I do remember having an awful cold when I got it, so it is always going to remind me of that. Weird how that works, isn’t it? I think maybe my fever and my cough medicine head had something to do with my take on it…
DMG Game boy is my favorite system of all time but man, id say this is leaps and bounds beyond anything they had going at the time. But I guess just the color probably just makes it seem like that?
Growing up I heard alot of things about the GG handheld - and most their games were buttcheeks. Does "Batman Returns" make an honorable list on the Batman game series? Or is it just another Batman Forever- on Snes. :3
16:33 I know boss 1 was like a fusion of the giant clown and the fire breathing clown, Catwoman was the 2nd and 4th boss, and Penguin was the last, but for the life of me I can't figure out who boss 3 was. Was he something connected to Max Shreck? Was he a silver Gorilla Grodd? 🤣
Batman Returns on Genesis should’ve had Shinobi gameplay instead of being an average platformer just like how Batman 1989 had Shinobi gameplay and 8-Bit Returns.
I PLAY THIS GAME When COMING HOME FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL! LOL! But NEVER BEAT IT! And was Hard for Me and The Last Final Boss was Penguin!(lol! SPEAKING OF PENGUIN ISN'T THEIR A SHOW ABOUT HIM THIS YEAR BECAUSE OF THAT THE BATMAN MOVIE OF 2022(Which is PRETTY GOOD AND WHY 2026?,Thought it was next year uh!,change it then!,But atleast we HAVE ANOTHER SUPERMAN REBOOT MOVIE!)
This version seems more a kin to a Tiger handheld game with better graphics, I always like the SNES version of Batman Returns but this one I'd definitely give it a miss.
Man, so many memories...
I would spend hours just trying to get a good cape glide going.. Imagine how happy I was when I played arkham asylum 15 years later
Batman Universe + Shinobi Game Play and Boss Fights = Best Batman Handheld Game...EVER !
Actually the prize for best handheld batman goes to batman the video game for gameboy
My dad bought me one of those at a garage sale for 60 bucks.

Brings back OLD memories! Beautiful, too!
absolutely the best soundtrack, amazing game
+andregent1 Back when games were all about having fun and less about competition. I couldn't get enough of this game as a kid. I think Game Gear should have caught on instead of Game Boy IMO.
I sense some serious shinobi
Yuzo Koshiro produced the soundtrack.
Motohiro Kawashima composed the actual tracks.
Catwoman was always the toughest for me, and she still haunts my twitching thumbs.
This game really makes you *feel* like batman
wow one of my first videogames as a kid back then
It's funny I always cried about the spiders dropping down and burning me. Turns out they were chandeliers.
Dam this brought me back lol.
Master System version of it was the best Batman game for me until Arkham series.
This brings back memories! I loved the soundtrack! Never beat the final boss though.
Me Too 37 years old and had to see!😆
Now HAVE FUN WITH ARKHAM SERIES GAMES OF BATMAN

Lol, I'm 21. I'm different I suppose. Maybe I died as a kid in 1995/96 in another life
Nes batman was the best batman game ever.
Way better than the Genesis version that's for sure lol
and the atari lynx version
these sound effects are so memorable
Yuzo Koshiro had a hand in that.
I had this game and loved it! My wife sold her game gear last year to buy a Nintendo DS. It was a bad move in my opinion but I still have my game boy color.
So? Buy another one.. not that big of a deal.
this could easily be a GG Shinobi game! Music, sound fx etc all sound similar to GG Shinobi II
same composer, Yuzo Koshiro
@@GiordanDiodato and Mikita Ichikawa
I had this game and loved it. I could have swore there was a ski boat level before you enter the sewers. I may have it confused with another game.
The nostalgia is making my heart hurt!

Weak hardware?
I am glad someone told the people at Sega that Batman’s costume is black, not purple.
That is so fucking cool how they have SNOW in a game gear game man.. holy shit.
I do approve of these Game Gear games. There needs to be more coverage for these obscure games. Also did you really do a no hit run of this game?!!
Memories.... everything dies in the end
One of the first games I had on game gear omg
Omg 😳 ... Tons of memories
Jesus, that stage 1 boss battle nearly gave me a seizure!
DMG Game boy is my favorite system of all time but man, id say this is leaps and bounds beyond anything they had going at the time. But I guess just the color probably just makes it seem like that?
This game should have a warning for people with epilepsy!!.....
Refresh rates were always awful on emulators.
30 fps video for a 60 fps game. It doesn't look like this on real hardware.
Sigh the 90's oh how I miss the 90's😤😣😌
Shame about the seizure inducing graphical glitches with this emulator. Fantastic game though, very nostalgic, loved the soundtrack.

its very bad
Only Batman returns in genesis is better (and decent controls) movie based game
Batman returns > Batman forever
Batman Returns for Game Gear is an absolute classic, try it out
@@Fortuna1
Nobody else thinks the Genesis game is better than the Game Gear game.
Simpler times ..
Why does Batman have a life bar on the Game Gear version, but on the Sega Master System version you die in 1 hit?
One of my favourites, and imo way better than Batman Forver
Much better than the Lynx version.
Stage 3 of Batman's return sounds like a time limit stage
This game was too easy compared to Batman the Game: 1989 on NES.
Memories, still not sure what the 3rd boss was supposed to be .
The third boss maybe he's Clayface, even thought he wasn't in the movie.
Could be soloman grundy?
Isn't the first boss Karnov from mame? He made a lot of cameos in other games too XD
Lynx version blows this away
What’s the third boss supposed to be? Stone man from mega man 5? Ever see him in the damn movie
16:33

Only Boss that seems out of place but interesting one for sure

Man the Game Gear chipset was really abrasive to the ears...
Batman Returns MERDE !!!
Feels a bit like the Shinobi game for Game Gear.
Besides 32:16, does this guy take any hit damage? Like, wtf. Also, he destroyed penguin at the end, that hit point doesn't count!
I had this on Sega genesis and I never beaten it but I had fun trying
Flashback!
who was the creator of this
soundtrack game
Yuzo koshiro
@@turn7boom108 😀👍👍🙌👏👏
I must contend that the Game Gear had it better than the Genesis with this and Jurrasic Park.
God I love TH-cam
I did it... but not so. The music at the end rest in me...
Looks and sounds similar to Shinobi
I PLAY THIS GAME When COMING HOME FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL! LOL! But NEVER BEAT IT! And was Hard for Me and The Last Final Boss was Penguin!(lol! So similar to Shinobi!
la game gear ça coûtait super cher
Does that seizure-inducing boss level stuff happen on the original game gear? I never owned this game.
This version seems more a kin to a Tiger handheld game with better graphics, I always like the SNES version of Batman Returns but this one I'd definitely give it a miss.
How is this like a Tiger handheld game? I don't see it at all. The SNES Batman Returns is a beat em up. Not really comparable.
Its basically the Master System port with a few differences
Adam Vaile such as a life bar.
3:07 oh shit... epilepsy
U can hit catwoman with the batman hook
The soundtrack should have been more gothic. This music sounds too tropical or something lol
*Ich war immer ein Nintendo Fan die Sounds von Sega sind schrecklich aber die Spiele sind fantastisch*
Take 1 day to finish
ShinobiBatman!! ;)
