British film and television productions have always excelled at using sound effects and instrumental soundtracks to enhance the visuals occurring on screen. The timing and nature of evocative "incidental music" is critical for eliciting an emotional stake in the story. So too is silence. Within just this segment, there are many examples of how this is done effectively.
UFO, Space 1999 weren't produced or broadcast by the BBC. It was an ATV (Associated TeleVision) production, broadcast on ITV - Independant TeleVision. . Dr Who was the only BBC production.
The only time in the whole series that a UFO turned around and went back home. How lucky for the tracking team. Even without details of the planet they should know exactly where it is located and there is at least some kind of repair facility there you would think. Not a complete failure at all. The UFO's were travelling so much faster than the Interceptors, it was somewhat like a WW1 biplane trying to intercept a fighter going supersonic. But the Interceptors would use 3x nuclear missiles to try triangulate on at least one of the UFOs, if there were three of them. The nuclear explosions would make an electromagnetic pulse and put out very fast moving radioactive shrapnel debris - because there is virtually no shockwave in a vacuum.

And nobody is going to mention the cool jazz that kicked in on the “`Red Alert”?
Gerry Anderson got really good at "Supermarionation". Those puppets look just like real people. ;-)
Puppets also have less ego and take direction better than most actors.
@@FandersonUfo Well, I've been told Robert from Fireball XL5 was a bit of a prima donna. 8 ) Cheers

I think that a lot of this came true. 40.000 cattle mutilations in the USA in the seventies and eighties. They took out organs and eyes of the cattle. Hundred thousands of UFO sightings around the globe and the pentagon gave 3 videos of UFO sightings to the public. Greetings from Linz-Austria 🇦🇹😎👍🏔⛷❄️🥨🍺🛶🐺 Europe!
Those moon chicks with purple hair and tight miniskirts were totally shagadelic.
Right on
Paul Foster discovering Commander Strayker making a move on the female Luna base commander!!
10:40 Foster came at the wrong moment 🤣🤣🤣 ...Straker was going to STRIKE
Hello. This is Bo and Peep of Heavens Gate. We have been toodling along behind Comet Hale Bopp and we are looking for a new comet to ride. *Flying saucer sounds*
☄ Oumuamua = 🛸
I don’t think I’ve ever noticed before how much extra height those purple wigs give them, now I’m wondering if that’s a deliberate style choice, or just that the actresses in question had long hair tied up under the wig?
It was the UNIFORM according to designer Sylvia Anderson
It seems to vary.
Possibly the worst example I've seen was Maureen Tann's character:

I think the wigs look hot, but not when they're teetering on top of an already large 'do. :-)
Nice purple
Opp’s!I think,I meant to say;that Ufo 🛸 is 42 year’s old?I know,it was made in the late 1960”s,and the early 1970”s!Two thumb’s up ⬆️ for victory!
Whats up with the 1 big missle on the interceptors?
The aliens come in ones or twos lol
Oh my, the ladies uniforms.
Straker couldnt have been that dumb to not know that the magnifications could be some of ANYTHING.
Muy buena serie lastima que no venga doblada en latino español me recuerda mucho mi infancia en los 70
This had a epic soundtrack much like space 1999.
How have I never even heard of this show? Lol I'm a huge Sci fi fan so it surprises me 🧐

How can you have missed one of the greatest TV shows ever.
@@dogwalker666 I grew up in Los Angeles in the 70's and 80's. I watched everything on every channel, but I'm seeing this for the first time as well. We got some Dr. Who, and Space 1999, but no UFO.
Back in the 60's when I was a lad I thought the girls with the mod purple hair were the cats meow. 😎
I remember this episode. The reference to size did not work.
