    I was a Japanese primary school pupil when "Lost In Space" was broadcast in Japan in 1960`s, and I was a great fan of this awesome TV program. When I watch former actors of this program, I have to concede that more than half a century has passed since then, and no wonder I`m no longer a kid as I used to be.

      The original music was composed by John "Johnny" Williams, Who would go on to score such memorable classics as "Jaws", "Star Wars", "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and many many more.
      Also Bernard Hermann's music was used in the first season, with music from "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and "Beneath the 12 Mile Reef" being notable examples.

    Lost in Space is really two different shows: Season 1 and then Seasons 2 & 3. Season 1 is gritty, artful, serious (enhanced by John Williams' magnificent background score). Seasons 2 & 3 are, for the most part, comical, tacky, campy.
    And, btw, Marta Kristen looks fantastic in this video!

    • @ddenuci
      @ddenuci 9 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      buddy51 Unfortunately, the "campiness" starts within Season 1. You could argue that the change started in Season 1 Episode 6 with the space cowboy. Season 2 was clearly the high point for campiness. In season 3, there was an attempt to tone it down (I believe because the adult characters were upset with the way the show was going, focusing almost exclusively on Smith, Will and the Robot), but the damage had already been done.

      I agree, as I could perceive this even as a kid and, I was disappointed by the route the show took. The Robot and Will kept me watching, a long with the occasional episode with decent writing. One thing I did like was the interaction between John Robinson and Will as, he and the other adult characters didn't talk down to him or cady coat things. He was treated as though he could understand the impacts of his actions, which is why I think it tended to be the doctor who caused the trouble. I think as the show went on, Will was used to fix Dr Smith's chaos. I think had the series stayed more serious it could have been much better.

    I loved this show, It was campy rather than scientific and became a TV Icon. Take it as entertainment with great, funny actors with a few straight men and you'll appreciate it. The lack of canned in laughter made it better. Careers were made from this for fun TV show, including cameo roles by people like a young Kurt Russell.

    • @scvandy3129
      @scvandy3129 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Television terminology 101: Re "the lack of canned laughter"(?!?) -- Never in the history of television has there been a one-hour filmed show with canned laughter. THAT post-production practice is for the traditional half-hour situation comedies, aka sitcoms. "Lost in Space," which started out as an exciting, futuristic, family drama, evolved into part campiness, but never in the mold of "Gilligan's Island," "The Munsters," "Bewitched," "The Brady Bunch" and other true sitcoms. The transition to the prominence of Jonathan Harris' Dr. Smith and Billy Mumy's Will -- to the detriment of the other regulars' screen time -- and their assorted silliness was still within the frame-work of a fantasy, action-adventure hour.
      Second clarification: You miss-used the term 'cameo role'. Cameo roles are instances where a well known star pops in on camera for perhaps 30 seconds or less. Kurt Russell and Michael Ansara (who played his father) were true guest stars with prominent screen time in the year one episode 'The Challenge'. To contrast: if Lucille Ball or Adam West, for example, breezes by for a brief exchange with the Robinsons, then that's a cameo appearance.
      . . . Thank you FOX 11 Los Angeles for posting this reunion clip.

    I loved this show as a kid and still love it now. I enjoyed watching this interview. Everyone still looks great 50 years later. Sad that Guy Williams and Jonathan Harris have passed away. I wonder why Mark Goddard didn't participate in this interview. What I find very sad is the total lack of respect for Angela Cartwright because she's heavy. People change in one way, shape, or form as they age, and I highly doubt that any of you who left negative comments about Ms. Cartwright looks like a fitness model, so you're better off keeping your mouths shut. It's too bad people cannot treat one another with more kindness. There's already too much ugliness, why add to it.

      Actually, Mark Goddard accumulated a lengthy list of TV and movie appearances following the cancellation of Lost In Space, and also appeared on Broadway with Liza Minnelli in Martin Scorsese's musical play "The Act" (1978).
      In 1991 he became a special education teacher in Middleborough, Massachusetts after he finally received his master's degree in education from Bridgewater State College (where he began his studies 30 years prior).
      Bill Bixby was NOT typecast, he had a lengthy career in front of and behind the camera starring in and directing comedic and dramatic roles in both films and television, spanning over three decades and achieving many awards & accolades for his work.
      His resume includes action-adventures, comedies, dramas, education, horror, musicals, mysteries, religious programming, sci-fi, war, and westerns, as well as hosting documentaries, participating in game shows, and even commercial advertisements.

    Great show Fox Producer!
    Wished you had edited in more clips of the show that we probably saw a 1000 times so we just get to hear voices of the stars we have not seen in 50 years that you took the trouble to invite to the studio

    I think Will as an adult would have been much like Bill's character on Babylon 5, intelligent, introspective, etc, but also a technology expert; maybe more of a technomage if he was in the Babylon Universe, lol.

    I wished a million times Irwin would have kept Lost in Space's tone that it opened with. It was a serious endeavor that devolved into fun silliness. Okay - I was a kid back then, so the silliness didnt ruin my interest in it. :-) But when I became a teen - I appreciated the more serious tone the 1st few episodes seemed to present. I loved all the cast regardless - and yes - even Robot.

      It would have ended up like a " Little House on the Prairie ". A lot of people swear by that format of family in crisis and relationship issues.

    It’s good to see the cast like this 50 years later. I liked the competent sociopathic cunning Dr. Smith better than the cowardly screamer that came out in later episodes. I understand maybe most people prefer the campy to the ninth-degree episodes that came later. The first season was better science fiction while later seasons won the price for campy stick. I loved this show when I was a kid. I once saw Mark Goddard at a Star Trek convention and was glad to see him. My favorite character was of course the Robot.

    June Lockhart's daughter Anne was in Battlestar Galactica in the Seventies.
    Bill Mumy was later in Babylon 5 and Angela Cartwright had been in The Sound Of Music, before she was in Lost In Space.
