Under Rated is so YT comment cliche nonsense. It’s a good song but the problem is, it doesn’t even come close to what Syd had written and when he was unceremoniously booted...the rest of the band tried to pen Syd Barrett-esque songs...which luckily they abandoned in favor of Meddle a few albums later

Rick's songs are some of the most pretty and recognizable in the Floyd catalog IMO, along with Summer '68, See-Saw, Remember A Day & Burning Bridges. His tunes remind me of being in a dream and a day before innocence lost. Listen to Rick sing in Burning Bridges, just beautiful. Wright was the most underrated and over-looked member of the band. He was in charge of the Azimuth Co--ordinator after all, literally painting concert venues in quadraphonic bliss for everyone to enjoy. Respect!

I have the Pink Floyd "Masters of Rock" LP, only released in England. For me, hearing "Paintbox" for the first time was a revelation: the subject matter, the jazz-minimalism of the piano, Wright's vocals, Nick Mason's drums....it all comes together. And the fade-out is just as groovy as "See Emily Play"'s. Glad I discovered these 'promo videos' on TH-cam.

Last night I had too much to drink
Sitting in a club with so many fools
    Playing to rules
Trying to impress but feeling rather empty
    I had another drink
    Drink - a - drink - a - drink - a - drink
What a way to spend that evening
They all turn up with their friends
    Playing the game
But in the scene I should have been
    Far away
    Away - away - away - away - away
Getting up, I feel as if I'm remembering this scene before
I open the door to an empty room
    Then I forget
The telephone rings and someone speaks
She would very much like to go out to a show
So what can I do - I can't think what to say
    She sees through anyway
    Away - away - away - away - away
Out of the front door I go
    Traffic's moving rather slow
    Arriving late, there she waits
Looking very angry, as cross as she can be
    Be - a - be - a - be - a - be - a - be
Getting up, I feel as if I'm remembering this scene before
I open the door to an empty room
    Then I forget

I have been listening to Floyd for over 20 years and I am not just starting to scratch the surface of their early stuff. As a teen I started with The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon, slowly getting other albums as time went on. However I did not listen to much of the early stuff before Atom Hearth Mother. I recently started purchasing all their original LPs, the Early Years box set and going through all that has given me a new perspective on Floyd. I still think the 70's era is their best, but the 60's was their coolest stuff because it was so random and experimental. Pink Floyd is the greatest band to ever exist. The Dark Side of the Moon has been on the top 200 charts for more than 18 years. Between the Early Years box set, the Immersion sets and the Later Years box set plus all the LPs and other releases I have enough Floyd for a life time. I only wish they had another 50 years to release more music. And for all of you that do not know there is a lot of solo stuff from Wright, Gilmour, Mason and Waters to keep you busy enjoying The Pink Floyd for years and years... I refer to it as The Pink Floyd Universe (PFU). And then there are the releases in 5.1 surround sound. Mind blown over and over, no drugs required.

I always loved this song, even though it's a bit camp for me in places. The exchange of ideas in rock music at this time was just so intense, you can easily hear A Day In The Life influencing this song, then a year later you can feel Pink Floyds influence on the Magical Mystery Tour EP. Blur owe a huge debt to everything in this song during their British Culture period, especially Damon, his whole vocal style is right here.

Sometimes these " Amateur " or beginning songs, groups, videos, show the honing in and more creativity and art than later mega productions. The black and white, skillful positioning angles and views were quite artistic and could stand alone as high art photography stills. I enjoyed this and have many great memories connected to concerts and times/ friends with Pink Floyd. They and Moody Blues we're trippy, profound, pschological, philosophical another realm groups to me. Thank You for this previously unseen slice of P.F. History. Stay Well All !

A Fantastic Song...better than the "Apple's and Oranges" A side by a psychedelic mile. It's shoulder to shoulder with the best of Syd's writing. Rick's compositions were always so melodic.Like the last bit of "Shine on..." (part 8) that people often miss. R.I.P. Richard Wright.🎹🎶☀️🌋🎵🎭

One of their most underrated songs. It was the first song in which Pink Floyd used the rather unusual Emadd9 chord, which was also key to future Floyd classics including "Breathe", "Dogs", "Welcome to the Machine", and "Hey You". Rick introduced the band to some rather unusual and unique chords as far as 1960's and 1970's rock n' roll was concerned
