They started out as Linda Ronstadt’s band. Clearly she understood their awesome talent & graciously sang and made a hit lit of “Desperado”, one of their early masterpieces, & encouraged them to go on their own . Check out Linda if you haven’t already. She was amazing.
I watched an interview with them. They said Hotel California was about the state. California is very different from the rest of the United States. It's about the feeling you get when you're there. Each band member is a genius in his own right! I saw them in concert 1976. Wonderful concert ❤❤❤.
Oh! Joe Walsh on guitar added that delightful ditty at the end when they were writing the song. It was a practice which he made up while rehearsing to limber up his fingers 😹 Man! What a gift!
Actually, Don Felder came up with all of the music for this song. The song you're thinking of where Joe Walsh would warm up playing the lick was "Life in the Fast Lane". Glen Frey heard Joe warming up and told him, "that's a song!" The lyrics came from Frey who was riding shotgun with his buddy in a corvette and the guy was going like 130mph. Glen is like, "whoa dude!" His buddy is like, "Life in the Fast Lane, man!"
@@RobGamesOn Christina is correct. If you go back and watch the history of the eagles - Felder credits Walsh for creating the ditty. Felder says he couldn’t come up with an ending and Walsh was like “what if we did it like this?”…and the rest was history.
They all sang lead at various times. Don Henley (drummer) and Glenn Frey (guitar) were lead most often. Fantastic band! But don't forget...you can never leave the metaphorical Hotel California.

The two guitars at the end are Joe Walsh (bandana) and Don Felder, the singer/drummer is Don Henley, the acoustic guitar is Glen Frye (deceased), and the bass is Randy Meissner. All extremely talented! Don Henley is notorious for blocking and having videos taken down so I'm glad this has stayed up. They're so many Eagle's songs to react to, I hope you get to them.

Although the band has never wanted to explain their lyrics, they say they want the audience to find their own interpretation, it helps to analyze them through the lens of time - 1976. The hard drug culture - cocaine, heroin, LSD had almost an entire generation struggling with addiction. The Eagles’ guitarist, Joe Walsh, famously battled “the beast”. Have a good listen to the lyrics again. This is not a hotel you want to visit: “...you can check out any time you want (“checking out” is a euphemism for dying), but you can never leave (once you’re addicted you’re always addicted). It’s safe to say that if you look at 70s and 80s music from a drug culture perspective, you’ll get to the truth of the song 80% of the time. I saw the Eagles in concert a couple of years ago, they still sound great, their live performances and studio albums are pretty much identical quality-wise. Glenn Frey’s passing in 2016 has left a gap that they’ve filled with Glenn’s son and the addition of the legendary Vince Gill to the band. I wept when they played this song, I was in grade 12 when it was first released. It’s the stuff of musical legacy.
I like how thoughtful you are with your reactions. I subscribed. Also, I think it's cute that you took the song literally. Art can be like that, misleading with metaphors.

To me, Hotel California is about a place of addiction, where all your desires and fantasies are fulfilled but the catch is that this fantasy land then becomes your prison. Hotel California turns into a place of no escape to those who went there to serve their own secret desires. Scary but true! Brilliant song writing!
Joe Walsh explains what The Hotel California was about in a video on YT. H says it was about a time when California was the musical Mecca that musicians from all over the country were gravitating towards.
I think Hotel California is a metaphor for addiction ("you can check out any time you want but you can never leave"). The drummer/lead singer is the amazing Don Henley. His solo work is just as amazing (i.e. "The End of the Innocence")
The song is a reference to to fact that rock bands wanted to go to Los Angeles to make it big. LA was in a sense a hotel for all the up and coming bands that landed there
Hotel California was released in 1976 on the album of the same name. It was the first album to feature current member Joe Walsh and the last album to feature original bass player Randy Meisner. The song is NOT about an ACTUAL hotel! According to drumming lead vocalist Don Henley, it’s about the excess of American culture. He admitted in a later interview, the song is about the American Dream and it’s dark underside. Meaning that the American Dream can sometimes turn into the American nightmare and how life can go from innocence to experience.
I see it as metaphorical. It's about the Ca. Vibe. Mostly, I've always thought, about the decadent L.A. scene. The drugs, the parties, the "beautiful" people-actors musicians, writers, etc...how many people have crashed and burned, how you can never get out of that scene and be who you were before.
Don Henley did sing the majority of their songs, Glen Frye, Joe Walsh and Timothy B Schmit also all sang lead at one time or another on different hits. Glen Frye, Joe Walsh and Don Henley also all had very successful solo careers
Suggestions for great singing drummers: The Band (from the Last Waltz) with Staple Singers - "The Weight" and Phil Collins (live) "In the Air Tonight" Thanks for opening your ears and heart to new music Rad Jarrett. I'm enjoying your channel!
Another Singer/Drummer you would like is The Band, Levon Helm was incredible. Recommend The Wieght from The Last Waltz with the Staples. As far as the meaning of the song, I always felt it was about addiction, I dont think that was what the Eagles said it was about but it just fits to me. The "Hotel" seems like an oasis, and initially its great, nice cars, pretty girls, wine, mirrors on the ceilings, pink Champaign on ice, and "some dance to remember, some dance to forget" some take drugs to remember and some to forget. but then once you are addicted you cant ever get enough, you cant ever satisfy the craving "in their masters chamber's, they gather for the feast, they stab it with their steely knives but they just cant kill the beast", and once your addicted you are always addicted, even if you manage to quit, you will always have that addiction inside you "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave"
No, "She's got the Mercedes bends" - clever little pun there from Don Henley (singer & drummer) & Glenn Frey (choir & acoustic western guitar ), who cowrote the lyrics. No, it's not a real hotel as such - it's a metaphor for the dark side of the American dream and the crazy lifestyle of California in the 70s in their circles.
The Eagles are a band if you continue to react to them that you'll find is very deep rabbit hole to go down. They are one of very, very few bands that going through their catalogue you discover they don't have even one bad song. The only other two artist I've encountered in my nearly 60 years above ground like that, and that's in my very humble opinion, are Lynyrd Skynyrd (or at least the original Skynyrd pre-1977 plane crash) and Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. This is considered one of The Eagles most iconic songs, hope you enjoyed it.

I’ve since unpacked my bags lol
The song is a reference to to fact that rock bands wanted to go to Los Angeles to make it big. LA was in a sense a hotel for all the up and coming bands that landed there
Hotel California is a metaphor for a rehab center.
Bro you just watched one of the greatest rock songs ever recorded and you picked the best version too!
Billy Joel "Piano Man" .....i love songs like this that are more story telling

I see it as metaphorical. It's about the Ca. Vibe. Mostly, I've always thought, about the decadent L.A. scene. The drugs, the parties, the "beautiful" people-actors musicians, writers, etc...how many people have crashed and burned, how you can never get out of that scene and be who you were before.
Hotel California is a song about addiction and i think it represents the addiction that you can not fully run away from it even if you do give it up
It's a song about the CRC prison in Norco, CA. Where he was once lived. He won't admit it in interviews but that is what it's about.
Awesome music great memories
Amazing time period
It's not about an actual hotel, but I believe there is a Hotel California in Mexico.
Listen to Eagles..One of these nights
Fabulous band! Better live.
Don Henley did sing the majority of their songs, Glen Frye, Joe Walsh and Timothy B Schmit also all sang lead at one time or another on different hits. Glen Frye, Joe Walsh and Don Henley also all had very successful solo careers
So basically a whole lot of talent

Hey Karen 🤗
@@lynnhoffmann247 hi my dear Lynn
Suggestions for great singing drummers: The Band (from the Last Waltz) with Staple Singers - "The Weight" and Phil Collins (live) "In the Air Tonight"
Thanks for opening your ears and heart to new music Rad Jarrett. I'm enjoying your channel!
Thanks Char!
If you want a great example of drumming and singing try The Last Waltz
"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" by The Band.
Witchy Woman was another one I always liked.
Check out Levon Helm /The Band. One of the great drummers and singers! Ed Sullivan show, Night They Drove Old Dixie down.
I really did 🙌🏽 but to be honest I’ve rarely heard any music from this time period that i haven’t liked so far
@@RadJarrettTheIntrovert , Watching a couple of your video reactions recently, I believe it was to Hotel California by The Eagles and The Boys Are Back In Town by Thin Lizzy made me immediately subscribe to your channel. Something I had never done without checking out other channels for awhile first. Really like your style. Sincerrity always shines through! Keep rocking my friend. As I said before, I'm nearly 60 now and grew up during that era of music. You've really only scratched the surface of what was an incredible period for music that IMO will forever remain unmatched. A period where real musicians played their instruments profientently without auto-tune and great singers gave their all during live shows to the point they could barely speak after the show at the end of the night. A lot of great music for you to still discover my friend. Let me know if I can be of any help. It would be my honor. Regards, and keep on rockin'!!
