I wanna know what you’re piling onto your plate this holiday season - are you all about the turkey or are you saving room for dessert? 😏 and let’s settle the debate: is sweet potato casserole a side dish or a sneaky dessert in disguise? 🤔
Hey Yo! It's a side dish, it's not made the same way as the Sweet Potato Pie..AND the "yams" are not always topped with marshmellows, its 'glazed'...😁😘
I kinda wonder what a caked version of the Pickled Eggplant and Hot peppers from the 'Wheel of Misfortune' cake would be like. (The memories of that were pretty awkward (two of the worst things to combine with cake, hot spice and vinegar eggplant)).
Pumpkin pie is the real dessert here. Sweet potato casserole is a side dish. The "yams" are large chunks with brown sugar and marshmallows, rather than a smooth filling. Sweet potato pie is the smooth filling like pumpkin, but with a very different taste (my recipe has grated orange peel and some fresh orange juice). I personally don't like sweet potatoes in any form.
Most Americans don’t consider sweet potato casserole a dessert. It’s part of the actual meal. Sweet potato pie on the other hand, is a dessert! I prefer a classic pumpkin pie though!
Amazing cake creation for Thanksgiving nostalgic and heart warming. It's something that will bring the family close together and be thankful for the blessings.
Happy Thanksgiving Yolanda! First off, Sweet Potato Casserole is NOT a dessert it's a SIDE DISH for the majority of folks especially in the Black household, the dessert for us is Sweet Potato Pie but NOT pumpkin. And YES we will often have BOTH the casserole AND the Sweet Potato Pie for Thanksgiving Dinner, they are not made the same.👍🏾👍🏾
We have sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie! We actually make our sweet potatoes differently though. Instead of topping it with marshmallows, we mix butter, nuts and a little brown sugar and put it on top. It caramelizes just a bit and it's amazing.
I haven’t watched ur vids since middle school and I have now graduated high school…. I swear you got me into my love for bakinggggg. So nostalgic I love uu!🫶🏾🫶🏾🥹
I'm American and my family always had "candied yams" which is basically the same as you made but because it is SO rich, my tradition is now simply baked, whole sweet potatoes with real butter mixed up inside. We love it and it is MUCH healthier! All of these cakes were awesome but the turkey....UH-mazing!!! Gobble gobble!
I love Sweet potato casserole and sweet potato pie. We always have pumpkin pie and Turkey. I also sometimes will make a pumpkin dessert that has a pumpkin pie filling but a shortbread crumble top. So yummy! I have also make the crumble topping with pecans, walnuts and a gluten free flour with almond flour in it to make a topping for the pumpkin dessert. It's really good too. I would love to see an apple pie or cherry pie made out of cake. Green bean casserole would be fun as well. Love you videos.
Absolutely amazing creations Yo, I love them all. We don't celebrate thanksgiving here in Australia unfortunately, but I love the Holiday. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. 🥰
The pumpkin pie slice and turkey cakes are def some of your best. One of my favorite videos to rewatch, especially around the holidays, is the giant pumpkin pie slice cake. Jordan singing the Crumb Coat and Chill song is iconic ❤ Happy holidays Yo and team!
I always loved your turkey cake. I remember it took you three hours to carve. Plus you called the fondant fleshy colored and came out with the turkey skinator. You even did a fake infomercial for it haha. Thanksgiving this year will be rather small. Only two people as most of my family lives out of town. We are doing homemade macaroni and cheese, popovers, and our family recipe of old fashioned apple cider donuts 🤤
I make pumpkin flan for myself because i don't like pumpkin pie lol. Or apple pie if it is not from a grocery store (has to be from a legit pie stand).
I would be so sad if I got a side dish as a dessert and no pie. In my house the dessert debate is between pecan pie and pumpkin pie, or some other unusual pie. When having thanksgiving at my partner's house it's a "the more the merrier" approach. I made a raspberry pie and a banoffee pie this year. (Pumpkin pie was still there, brought by mom).
Fun fat American fact: the sweet potato casserole is a main dish not a dessert. On another note, I'm doing a pumpkin tart for one, a proper pumpkin pie with some maple toffee bits for another, and a pretzel crust chocolate peanut butter pie for another. All gluten free because I have Celiac.
The domesticated turkeys you're used to seeing have been bred to have large breasts therefore too heavy to fly, so they don't use their wings like wild turkeys.

It would be cool if you made a burnt turkey just for fun 🤩 😂 love you YO-YO ❤
my sweet potato casserole is served with dinner. its not a dessert. but i would eat your sweet potato casserole as a dessert!!
Beautiful cakes, so realistic! My family doesn't do the casserole or pumpkin pie. We're sweet potato pie people.
Most Americans don’t consider sweet potato casserole a dessert. It’s part of the actual meal. Sweet potato pie on the other hand, is a dessert! I prefer a classic pumpkin pie though!
Yep, embarrassingly much, it’s a side, not dessert. 🤭
Then why are there marshmallows on it?
Because it is a side that has marshmallows…it just is what it is.
Agree!. I don't like either one, but they are always part of the meal. :)
Sweet potato casserole is a side dish not dessert. Love these cakes!
But there's marshmallows on it. A Lot of them.
@@buddyholly4672 Midwestern salads have marshmallows in them. They're still sides.
You are talented and I love your work.
Amazing cake creation for Thanksgiving nostalgic and heart warming. It's something that will bring the family close together and be thankful for the blessings.

As someone who resides in a country that doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving, I would happily have either of those desserts

i would rather have that as my turkey cause that looks amazing plus it would be a cool prank for my family.😋😋😂😂

Chickens and turkeys can fly. They don't fly very long distances, but they do fly. Thanks for reminding us of these AMAZING cakes!
Sweet potato casserole is a side...pumpkin pie is a must!
The Turkey-skinator!
I have sweet potato pie as the dessert for Thanksgiving
In our house sweet potato casserole is a side dish and pumpkin pie is dessert so both are served. As well as Chess Pie, Cherry Pie and Cheese cake.

Sweet potato PIE
Personally, I love pumpkin pie, BUT me and my family are all about the APPLE PIE at Thanksgiving!
❤
The OG Turkey cake is still the best cake on the channel, in my opinion.. Even now, years later, it's still one of the best cakes made on HTCI
🧡🧡🧡
Neither...as an Black southerner(GA/FL)- sweet potato pie's.
Salad!
Cracked up laughing every time she talked about the ugly color fondant....😂😂😂
I don't like pumpkin pie because it has always tasted like soap. I do like sweet potato casserole as long as it is not too sweet. Have a good week 😄.
Turkeys fly though. Lol look it up😂😂😂
That potato casserole cake get two thumps up from me.
Maybe a green bean casserole with French fried onions? 🤔

@@HowToCakeIt it is. :D
Mac n cheese and ham could be other thanksgiving cakes you could make

2. Dressing
3. Cornbread
4. Green Bean Casserole
