    I always loved seeing the circus train come in and park. It was always where I'd pass it every day on my way to work. Those trains were really cool too!

    The last year the circus performed,their train pulled up behind where we lived and stayed overnight while they performed down the road. It was so cool to get a picture.

    I've seen that model and the detail is just astounding.
    BTW- at 20:32 you mention John "Ripley", which is fine since you understandably spend a lot of time at Ripley attractions. :)

    I had won a contest to be "Prince" of the circus back in 1978. Ringling brothers had their show down in St.Pete Florida and Dick Van Dyke was hosting the circus. I got to meet him and ride around with him in a submarine car under the big top. It was a great memory.😁👍

    Ca ‘d Zan was the filming location for Great Expectations with Gweneth Paltrow and Ethan Hawke as well ❤️ the marble dock was where she stood at the end with her daughter looking off into the Bay when Ethan walked up, some was filmed on the grounds and outside shots.

    One of my childhood memories that always stuck with me was going to see the circus. I had won a coloring contest and got free tickets for my whole family. It was during the farewell tour for Gunther Gebel-Williams, who was the animal trainer for the Ringling Bros. Circus from 1968 to 1990.

    Your comment on "sweeping up horse turds" reminds me of the old joke: Bill had told his friends since he was a kid he was going to run away from home and go into show business. One day he did just that and his friends back home didn't see him for years. One day the Circus came to town and they had the big parade with the animals and horses and elephants. There at the back of the parade they saw Bill with a cart with a big bucket, a broom, and shovel, cleaning up the horse and elephant sh&t on the street. They hollered at him and said "Bill! Come on back home! You don't need to be doing that job!" "What??" Bill replied? "And give up show business????".

    I can remember going to Florida when I was a kid and going to Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey Circus museum it was great, and as you say that was the performers home base. So if some of the performers were not on the road they had daily performances there. I still have my old pennant from there. Is or was there another place as well down there in Florida?

  • @cindythecatwoman1601
    @cindythecatwoman1601 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That was interesting to see. I didn't like seeing animals dressed as other animals though. I don't like seeing them in cages either but, they had to have a way to transport them from show to show and keep them somewhere between performances. I'm sure they did the best they could. Circus life is hard for everybody involved.

    Wow! That's a big circus right there. I would like to go to this place and learn about the history of the Circus. I saw this documentary on Netflix about circuses. It was a PBS documentary talking about the history of the Circus and how it ended. The Circus industry ended because we had movies and TV shows. We no longer needed the circus. We had other types of entertainment. Still, I wish we still had them. I would have them without the exotic animals though because I don't want to take animals out of their natural habitat. Only domestic animals will do. Well, thanks for sharing! Have a great day! Oh, and Happy New Year!

    I was intrigued by the Knoxville references so I looked it up. The mini circus was first shown to the public at the 1982 worlds fair, although I don't know if he had any connection to the city. The white lily flour sign is a little bit of a deep cut Knoxville reference.

      I know this is a really late reply but since no one answered yet... the park closed in the mid 80's, they built a baseball stadium on the site which was used until the early 2000's, then everything was demolished and now there's a bunch of retail stores.
