- "He could be prime minister but instead the credit is going to his successor.”
With the economy improving and England in the final of the euros, Rishi Sunak is missing out on what could have been his, says The Times's Matthew Parris.

I shall be forever grateful to Sunak that he called the election when he did rather than making us suffer through another 6 months of Tory torture...though I realise he didn't do it for the public, he did it for himself
The most inconsiderate to call for an election now.
And look what we got instead starmer who is being advised by a war criminal called Tony Blair. And a Labour mayor who is muslim and in charge of london.
We are a disgrace right now and the 2nd biggest laughing stock after liberal America.

It’s not lucky. It’s a no brainer. Just do the right and and stop lying
What?
He lied to the Labour membership in order to be made leader of them.
It's not going to be long till he is exposed for lying to the public.
Not that I care, I never voted for him or the other bunch of liars.
I think its important to remember Kier was oersinally elected by the people at a general election. Whereas sunak just got pushed forward by his party
Starmer hasn't got a democratic mandate either, only 1 in 5 of the electorate voted for Labour.

He wanted it. If there was any pushing it was when she tripped up.
Did he not just get the anti- Tory vote? A laboratory chimp could have been voted in if it wore a Labour rosette!
@@userfile007It's less than that as only voters in his constituency can vote for him. It's how our electoral system works. It's also true that no post war Prime Minister has ever got a majority of the vote, let alone a majority of voters.

It’s a low bar for a PM to look competent in Office

The in-fighting was a side issue. If these people on this video are seriously suggesting that's why people voted the Tories out, I am worried about political analysis in the media in this country (as if I wasn't already). People hated taxpayers money being transferred to the rich, sewage in the rivers and seas, the NHS with dangerously long waiting lists, partygate, Truss wiping millions of pounds off of pension funds and increasing mortgage payments for millions, arrogance, dog-whistle politics, cost of living and fall in wages, privatised energy, water and rail companies being absolutely useless with no accountability and weak regulation. All THAT, amongst other things, is why the Tories were hammered

The tories always do things for themselves and not the public
Sunak pandered to an ideology I think he did not fully embrace ie Rwanda etc. he looked most sincere when he apologised on the steps of No. 10
Just a shame he decided to cancel Hs2 phase 2 and claim to use the money to fill in potholes instead of bringing much needed extra rail capacity.

Labour would have been up in arms about the prisoner release issue if it had happened when the Tories were in government because they caused the issue!
And quite rightly so. The Tories will be forever remembered for skyrocketing NHS waiting lists, school roofs falling in, prisons brimming with prisoners and projects being scrapped. They had the majority and the time to address these problems, but decided to do evil instead.
They've had 14 years to build appropriate prison capacity yet haven't done so.
The Tories would have spent more time working out how to shovel more cash into the private sector to monitor any prisoners given early release than how the selection of early releasees would take place
The new Prison HMP FOSSE Way started to accept prisoners in late 2023.
It did happen under the Tories.
It's been happening for months, prior to the election being called.
The ones being freed now were approved by the outgoing Tory Home Secretary.

Yes, Labour would have protested about prison sentences being cut because of over-crowding.
But the objection would have been that the Tories allowed the overcrowding in the first place!
This is totally different to Labour being upset that they have to deal with this mess - it's a situation forced on them - not one they created. Surely that's pretty clear?
I remember years ago, under Labour, prisoners being transferred to Bridewells for a few weeks whilst the situation eased. That's how labour sorted it then. Why have they released them into the community this time instead?
