Great video. Thanks. I think I viewed about 15 different videos to replace the cabin filter for a 2013 5 series and yours is the only correct version. All others removed the torx 20 screws along with the 30's. Only required to remove the 30. Easy job, took about a half an hour.
Hello this is keith from Michigan, I wanted to know your thoughts on your cabin air filters since you installed them? Can you tell a difference? I'm looking to replace mines, thank you...
@@catjam25 in my 2013 they where pointing to the engine but the dirt was on the engine side so they should pointing towards the interior. I can not imagine they changed this during the facelift
This video won't help if you own a 2015 550i xDrive because he only shows removing two screws to detach the airbag container whereas there are two Torx screws and two 10mm bolts (read the comment by @granturismo5742). Be wary of that or you'll risk tearing up the trim. Other than than this video was very helpful. Although, I should point out a flaw in judgement when he disconnects power at the battery's positive terminal. As a safety consideration, you should always remove the negative/ground terminal rather than the positive/live since ground is distributed **openly** throughout the car. It is not a critical consideration for this particular task, but will be if you are working on, or near, electrical components around the engine compartment where a tool could potentially cause a short and sparking.
Cool video. I wish I had screws holding my cabin air filter into place, instead of clips. It was confusing how to get mine undone. I'm curious what the grey tube is for. My guess would be particulate monitoring to decide to change the HVAC to recirculate, but I'm not sure.
did this job. didn't wait long enough after disconnecting battery and have been living with the airbag passenger light. (tears) Fault code reads resistance air bag too high or something like that. :/
Something you didn’t specify ( or at least I didn’t see a comment on ) is the MASSIVE difference between cabin air filter and air particulate filter in this video you replaced the particulate filter so if you go to o Riley’s and buy a “ cabin air filter” you will buy the wrong one and end up with your car apart and no replacement filter :(
This is not a "particulate filter" this is the cabin air filter for his 535i, if you are referring to the 530i (bmw) they are located under the hood in front of the windshield. BMW ONLY have "particulate filter(s)" in the 'DPF' model (Diesel Particulate Filter.) Anything else and it isn't a true OEM part, or thing. The "Diesel Particulate Filter" is located under the hood next to the engine (by the turbo[s] inlet) not under the glove box. The cabin air filter is the same as the micro filter, only differences is preference, other than the engine air filter (of course.) Have a good & great day. :)
Is there a particular product number for this brand or it’s one fits alll? I just seen them on eBay but not sure which one to get? I want to try these my need changing ASAP
Tried that today. Didn’t work for me. Mine had a whole differ look. It has another panel covering everything after the airbag panel. It’s crazy year by year how different it is. I couldn’t even get the damn airbag panel to go back on over all the clips.
You said to disconnect the battery "to be safe" & "wait 10 minutes", but you didn't explain why we have to do that?... Also, by disconnecting your battery did you lose any of your personal settings in the car? Thanks!
Good advice on disconnecting the battery, but that white clip is not the airbag sensor. That's the power supply for the power port. The airbag connector is on the other side, and I'd be careful if you disconnect it; it's small and easily damaged. Just disconnect the battery and let the charge dissipate, then do the work. Also, don't take off those 2 t screws; they hold 2 panels together and they come out as one piece. If the panel that says "airbag" comes apart from the larger piece that houses the power port and foot well light, the airbag sensor wires are very small and short and they can get ripped out of the sensor.

Just changed it for my 2015 535i. All T20 screws, and (2) 10mm hex bolt at glovebox. Filter air flow direction points to interior.
Love this channel. Keep up the good work
Damn, that’s a bit much for a cabin filter!
Hello this is keith from Michigan, I wanted to know your thoughts on your cabin air filters since you installed them? Can you tell a difference? I'm looking to replace mines, thank you...
Thank you for your time. Appreciate the help!
During removal I took notice which direction the air flow arrow was pointing on my 2017 540 which was towards the front. Pointing to the engine.
@@catjam25 so which way is it supposed to go in i have a 2017 bmw 540 the arrows are i supposed to be facing the engine ? on both filters?

Thanks Pat! I’m not sure what that grey tube is for. I will ask my tech next time I’m in there.
@@ThicGarage I tried to find an answer online before I asked but couldn't find a positive answer. I'll look forward to what you find out. Thanks!
It's a drain tube.
Is it the same process for a 2019 540i?
how often do you suggest to change the cabin filters, considering that I live in Los Angeles?
Manufacture’s recommend every 15k-30k miles depending on the environment you live in.

Have u tried resetting it with BimmerLink?
@@ThicGarage I want to say when I went in to clear errors it didn't clear. I'm thinking maybe I damaged the airbag connector when I unplugged it.
Awesome video! How those Fresh Breeze end up doing? I have 535 X drive 2015 and trying to get filter
They worked great
No need to disconnect battery not the air bag, filter is accessible without doing it. Took 2 minutes to replace
For my car it was T15 screws, and I also lost which direction the filters went lol

Is location the same for a 2018 M550?
I think so but not 100% sure
@@ThicGarage Thank you. Local BMW shop just quoted $330 for this and OEM part is about $80.

Because there is wiring behind the panel that needs to be removed to access the filters. I did not lose any settings when I disconnected.
Most bmws battery post torque between 5 to 10 nm
Does this apply for the 2017 540i as well...
I believe it is. Here is a link to filters for your www.amazon.com/Premium-Guard-Filter-PC99244-2017-2018/dp/B07DVPDWVS
Damn BMW . Makes everything hard to reach so you have no choice to take it to dealer and pay huge amount of money.
Why disconnecting battery?
Because there is wiring in the same area. Disconnecting battery is just a safety measure.
I cannot pull out the unit for the life of me from the two clips. I’m pulling in it as hard as I can
Took us some wiggling and fooling around with it as well

10 minute video for a filter replacement 😬
Bruh your just changing the cabin filter. No need to disconnect the battery. Lol
If you hit the airbag sensor by mistake you will wish you did. BMW also recommends disconnecting the battery first.
This why I hate BMWs
