- (Enable closed captions) HERE YOU GO Folks! As promised, this is the footage from my recent solo-drive with my 1997 Mercedes-Benz E200 "Tuten" W210 from KL to Koh Phangan, Thailand!
Unlike the Waja Drive to Koh Samui, this time, it was just me on my own, and I gotta say, it was a cake-walk. Seriously, it was such an easy drive for the Tuten that it was really boring, especially the M'sia side, which was basically the PLUS Highway all the way to the border at Bukit Kayu Hitam.
However, one good thing i managed to ascertain during this part, was that the W210 E200 is exceptionally frugal on the highway, and it wasn't a slouch either, for those wondering if a naturally-aspirated 4-cyl 2.0-litre engine is enough to push along 2-tonnes of metal, well, it is!

Yep, u can Google Seatran Ferry tickets, really easy to select and pay online 😀
Bro Chris- other than the legend you are-can you enlighten me as to whether you change to a local Thai Simcard or turn International Roaming on your Malaysian mobile-reason for asking is trip preparation-haven't driven into Thailand but surely looking forward to do one.
Haha thanks bro, hope u enjoyed the footage!! I normally get a Thai SIM, unlimited 7-days mobile data. Dtac has very good coverage, even in more rural areas, but there are many u can choose from, without having to change your own mobile number 👍🏽😊

Do these W210 cars suffer from electrical issues? Otherwise, their powertrain is known to be bulletproof, right?
Quite bulletproof indeed, and so far no electrical issues at all, solid car 😊

Curious, how is the fuel consumption?
Actually unbelievably good, it's just a 2.0L 4cyl non-kompressor mated to a 5sp auto and on the highway I get really excellent mileage. Someday I'll have to actually do a proper FC calculation 😄

hi Chris just curious wondering if the usual tales of poor material / body work of the W210s ever was an issue in our south east asian climate - have read and heard many stories of corrosion and not sure if it applies to us here. any thoughts?
None whatsoever, in fact imho, this tuten is probably the last of the 'built to last a lifetime' Mercs. Happy to say I've had zero issues with rust, bodywork, interior & exterior degradation, despite the car being 25yrs old already 🙏🏽😊
@@ChrisWeevilGarage cool. somehow people have the impression that W210s are really prone to corrosion - so much so that MB enthusiasts favour the W124 over it because of this opinion that the W210 marked the beginning of where it went downhill for MB (in terms of being over-engineered). many W210s have seemed to stood the test of time despite this unfavourable view hence I was wondering whether there was *real* reason for the dislike
(this is somewhat the Singapore pov by the way, where we have a strong following for the W124 and W126 but not the W210 - but I no means represent the entire population of course! 😆)
Nope, the W210 is the last, I can attest to that one from experience not hearsay 😊

@@jfysjoel you're welcome! I was told by a reliable source that the Kompressor can give problems after a while, so in terms of longevity, and given the age of the car, the non-Komp was a better bet 😉
