Bought an AR15 firing pin from Brownell's..........Broke after only 200 rounds on it..... Shit happens.......No blame.......I always have a well stocked BCG repair kit with me.
Starting in 1965 with a Colt XM16E1 and up to the present, I have never had a broken firing pin on and AR-15/M-16. Shot many cases of 193 and 196 ammo in Vietnam. Call it luck or anything you want.
I picked up the TH40 on Gunbroker and have fired over 300 rounds through the weapon, with just one misfeed during the first box of 50. Everything else has run smoothly since. I like the exposed hammer. Nothing against striker fire per se, it's just a personal preference. A feature from the 1911 world which I appreciate on a "plastic gun" like the TH series. Factory-issue magazines are solid, the trigger is actually much better than I expected it to be (based on videos) and I've found it easy to clean and maintain. It won't survive heavy shooting competition use (probably) but for a general consumer pistol which could do a few boxes of ammo on any given range day, for the price, this is a good firearm.
I have a pt111 by Taurus and the firing pin broke on that too. I was able to make my own and it's worked flawlessly. I think Taurus just makes junky pins.
Love your budget gun reviews. I get people who come to me often wanting a gun but they can't afford a sig or glock. Your videos help me make an informed recommendation
4yrs late, and I have to agree. People want the high dollar guns, but aren't sure they'll get to do anything with them, and probably lack the training to even take care of them. It's always better to learn on the budget guns, as they may not be very expensive, but they are built to take a beating
Good to see Taurus reviews out of Brazil. Guns here are quite expensive and the cheaper guns like Taurus G3 Toro and TH9 in a direcly conversion would be around $800 to $1000. I'm looking to buy one and for our quality standards any gun is a good gun (better than without it). but it's good to see people that have many others options and still, recommending Taurus.
I just wish there were more budget options for hammer fired pistols out there. I love hammer fired with a decocker, but most worth a damn are expensive
I have the previous version, the 809, runs great. I don't shoot it to death, and cons include the fact that I carried it conceled for security work on some hwo sweaty days, and I had to clean some rust off.
On a side note,I own a glock45 9mm..it confuses people when they ask what I carry I'll say a glock45 and there reply "what model" ..ITS A GLOCK45 9MM..
I understand that Taurus at one time was....... Junk! But, in my opinion, they have licked their wounds, and now, are really building guns to be noticed. My g2c is my favorite and now will try this one. Thanks for a great review
I've got an 809, and after around 4K+ rounds, it still functions flawlessly, and yes, I would trust my life with it. The only thing that's prevented me from getting the TH9 was getting extra mags tended to be impossible. They now appear to be readily available. I'm not a gun snob, and have no brand loyalty. I've got a little bit of everything. I've never had bad luck with a Taurus personally, but I do know people that have. Thanks for the honest review!
im a newbie to guns and my first gun is a th9 that i got 4 days ago and put 1100 rds thru it , i cleaned it and lubed it so i guess ill need to do another 100 rds to find out lol. but im guessing he was shooting 1200 in one day which im pretty sure would break anything in a any kind of gun?
Hey I have a Taurus th9 and I love it. I went to the range to test it out and it's shoots flawlessly with the stock 17 round mag. If you buy a 32 round mag I highly recommend you put tape on it because its very loose and will jam up. Springfield XD 9mm 32 rnd mags works there are no other extended magazine made for the th9 but that one so tape up and hollows will jam sometimes
The mags for these are GOOD quality mags, but they fit a little loose and slop around a tad. EASY 80 cent fix is a thin "O" ring from Menards that you slide over the mag and flush up against the base plate. Roll it on but be sure when it's on the base you're insured there are no twists in it. Back in plumbing look for DANCO INC, Irving Tx, their stock # 35747B. Little tiny 2 x 2 package in the tip-out drawers and the paper part of the label is white with a red stripe on it. Measurements on the tiny clear package states 1 1/16 x 15/16 x 1/16. I had on hand some Harbor Freight "O" rings that fit but were too thick to allow the mag to seat. The 1/16" was good. Take out 95% of the mag rattling.
Brother keep up the great reviews. I noticed you never bashed the pistol because we all know things can break. My Glock 19 with the plastic sights broke and it's twice as much as my taurus th9. Although I do like the TH 9 over my Glock and M&PS because of less recoil felt.
This is essentially a gen 2 Taurus 809 (don't know if you mention that). I sold mine after 2000-2500 rounds, with no complaints, other the the front post becoming loose over time.
I really liked the 809. I've been keeping my eyes open for one but no luck so far. The only problem I have with any Taurus firearm is the availability of magazines, that's why I went to the m&p series.
I myself have thousands upon thousands of rounds through my PT 917's, coming up on two thousand rounds through a PT 1911 did have some issues with that one at first but I did buy it used, thousands of rounds through a 24/7, and my first and last Glock 19 that started having firing pin and trigger issues after 250 rounds and I bought that one new, one of my kimber 1911's had to go back twice before it started functioning right. For three hundred bucks and the Taurus warranty makes this one worth it
I’m not sure what these Taurus guns were like when they were made in Brazil, but I do know that they are quality guns now. Their gun plant is about 40 miles from where I live and I’ve been there several times lately. I actually have a TH9 and have never had any bad issues with my gun. I think the people that trash them are just the kind of idiots that have been told the more you pay, the better quality it is. That’s just retarded.
@@shahrozekhurram9836 Nope. Every company has quality issues including Sig Sauer and Glock. Taurus's G Series is up there with the best of them as far as reliability is concerned. I'm not so sure about this TH9, but my G3 was made in Georgia and runs just as well as any S&W, Springfield, or Beretta I've ever shot. (hate Glock's grip angle). Love it!
The funny thing is, many budget guns are actually _designed_ with the possibility of offering to Military or Police contracts, which are going to partly base their decision on what to buy based on price. And given the punishment that Military and Law Enforcement can expect, it's not that hard to imagine that a 'cheap' firearm built to those demands are going to be capable of taking a few thunks.
@@Mrgunsngear Well, that was not a report, just a side note. There is a lot of misinformation about MIM, and achieved density being one of them. Most claim 96%, some claim all the way up to 99.5%, in reality it all depends on feedstock, equipment used and speed of manufacturing. The same feedstock and same equipment can be used to output more product by simply speeding up the manufacturing process. Lower injection pressure at faster injection speed, and shorter sintering time at higher temp with poor post sintering heat treatment. That's why in reality, the claimed 96% density can fall below 90%, which depending on part size and configuration, can make the final product significantly weaker then similar cast parts. The biggest problem with MIM parts is low tensile strength and high fracturing. That's why MIM firing pins break, their sintered density is so low that in comparison a firing pin cast from high grade steel will have much higher tensile strength and fracture tolerance levels. The following is in regards to a high standard medical grade MIM tech application, and it's insufficient even there, now just imagine what goes on in a non regulated industry that just makes MIM parts. "In one study [3], the yield strength was superior by MIM, but 50% of the MIM samples (from a test lot of 50) fell below the 1070 MPa handbook tensile strength. This is because the residual pores in the MIM material induced premature fracture during the tensile test, giving less plastic flow (elongation) prior to failure. Table 3 is only representative of the properties attainable in MIM, since differences in impurity levels, grain size, porosity, and post-sintering heat treatment can have dramatic effects. Fatigue strength and fracture toughness Sometimes a problem is evident in the dynamic properties such as fatigue strength or fracture toughness. For high toughness materials this is not an issue. But in other cases testing is recommended. For the 17-4 PH surgical stainless steel, V-notched impact tests showed the MIM material had only 15% of the fracture energy of wrought (even when the wrought material was subjected to the same sintering thermal cycle) [4]. The fatigue strength for MIM 17-4 PH stainless steel at 10 million cycles is 500 MPa. This is slightly lower than the cast or wrought product and reflects the larger grain size and residual porosity associated with MIM." ^^^ - That right there clearly and factually states that casting is superior to MIM when it comes to fatigue strength and fracture toughness, and the main cause is residual porosity due to larger grain size. www.pim-international.com/metal-injection-molding/mim-material-options-and-component-properties/ Now this looks more like a report.
@@BigSmartArmed i think the biggest problem is not heating/compressing enough to get out all the pours in the product so there are voids in it on the inside that cause weak spots to fail.
I own this pistol. coming from a beretta pico, which was an absolute garbage firearm (firing pin snapped from dry firing, jammed nearly every round, super small, oh and the fact it’s a 380) this was one pleasant upgrade! I’ve fired near 1,000 rounds out of it, and had no issues. Even with different firing speeds and quality of the ammo. The mag release and slide were stiff when I first got it, but both loosened up fairly well. Another cool thing I’ve noticed is mine being the matte black and my every day Carry it’s gotten some decent scratches, and when you clean the firearm they almost seem to buff out no issue. Overall I know Taurus doesn’t have the highest reputation, but this firearm is reliable and I trust my life with it!
The th9c has a shorter trigger on the single then the double. I don't understand why the full size would have a different trigger. I do like your gun reviews because you're honest. Yes this is a budget pistol but that being said it's one of the best budget pistols out there.
My friend owns one of these,he had an issue when he cocked it back and sent the slide home to charge a new round, the gun discharged..I told him to send it back,I need to check up on him and see what happen...on a side note I just brought a Taurus revolver, its there 3in1 9mm,38sp and 357mag revolver.its a very cool revolver.
Taurus gets a bad rap cause of thier past. They have improved thier products quite a bit in recent years. Perfect example is the Taurus PT 111 9mm its a great budget gun. Mrgunsngear should do a review on it.
The new PT111 is called the g2c.. and I bought one just because of the price point I have a lot more expensive guns and it has become my favorite handgun.... it replaced my glock 26 as my EDC because it's more comfortable has more features and shoots better.... and when I first bought it I'm going to admit I was kind of a gun snob... I put a shit ton of rounds through a trying to make it fail.. I've got a 1900 rounds through it without a single malfunction that gun is great super accurate comfortable has like three different safety so you're not going to shoot yourself in the leg.... I recommend it to anyone
I bought this gun bout a month ago i actually like it fits well in my hand i also like my g3c looking to get another handgun maybe a .45 im a ruger man but i have a soft spot for taurus
I've got this in 40 S&W 1500 + rounds not one falure. Extremely accurate easy to use, easy to break down super Is comfortable impointable. I personally like the double action trigger on it. I bet you the single action is about four pounds. Is it a budget price and does it look a little budgety?Yeah, but does it handle feel and shoot that way nope. Excellent pistol at a very reasonable price.I recommend it.
Ouch. They better get on the firing pin asap and make it a version 2, or just say it's a factory upgrade like Sig does. One good thing about Taurus guns is that they're cheap enough that you can take a dremel to them and adjust the feel of the grip, guard and mag release, I've got an 809 that I ground off all the stuff that my fingers didn't like, then I put a rail red dot holder and a big red dot (the barrel kind) along with a cheap flashlight and it's a real Frankenstein now. I'm still going to add grip tape and paint the trigger but I haven't found the right colors yet. Pimp out my pistol! Hate to admit it, but it's kinda fun to shoot especially when there's someone I don't know at the range.
Thank you for the review. I never had good luck with any Taurus. I had a 357 magnum revolver seize within the first 50 rounds and a G2 Millennium that literally just had multiple issues. Just when I want to give Taurus another chance you just saved me the hassle. I just can’t trust Taurus. Thanks again!
I had a Taurus 606 in .357 and it was great 200 rounds never a failure and I also have a g2c and shot it 1000 plus times and honestly never had an issue
The Sig Not so all mighty P365 is well known for broken firing pins. People seem to be all over them without hesitation, they even carry them......even worse, the first batch one's.....so I definitely wouldn't be too hard on or scared of the Taurus.
It’s perfect for home defense and I use it for my security job. I doubt I’ll be putting 600 rounds through it. But I wouldn’t use it for competition shooting.
I recently bought aTH9 NEW had to send it back to Taurus right out of the box. It would not eject the rounds and would jam. Also the mag release takes a lot of pressure to release mag. I sent it back Taurus was good on that. They put new ejector in. It is now worse then what it was Jams on every shot if it dose eject the shell it will land on your hand arm or face. I thought I was getting something good but I got a peace of JUNK!!!! Do not buy a Taurus!!

Haven't been able to find one to even hold in my area since they came out. Full size da/sa, fully ambi, decocker and safety combo, 17 round mags and all for $259.00, seems like a bargain to me. I have higher end pistols than Taurus but of all the pistols I own the one that I don't leave home without is my Taurus PT-111 Millennium G2, it has been as reliable as any pistol I have ever owned, and if the TH9 is anywhere near as good it would be a great one to own as well.

I like a double/single action pistol with a decocker. If someone doesn't like the pull of the double action, pull the hammer back & start going bang, bang, bang! 👍 yeah! Correct
I like how you can carry it like sig and carry it like a 1911
I own a 1990s pt92. It has been perfect. Got it in 2012. Zero issues.
If I die due to a broken firing pin hopefully my last words are “that’s not good” and they put that quote on my grave stone
Now that's funny...
I have a pt111 by Taurus and the firing pin broke on that too. I was able to make my own and it's worked flawlessly. I think Taurus just makes junky pins.
no, they should inscribe it on your Taurus and bury you with it lmao

Love your budget gun reviews. I get people who come to me often wanting a gun but they can't afford a sig or glock. Your videos help me make an informed recommendation
Thank you
4yrs late, and I have to agree. People want the high dollar guns, but aren't sure they'll get to do anything with them, and probably lack the training to even take care of them. It's always better to learn on the budget guns, as they may not be very expensive, but they are built to take a beating
For guns without serations on the front, just put a couple slivers of skateboard tape on the front. Works surprisingly well
Good to see Taurus reviews out of Brazil.
>Firing pin broke during testing
So what you're telling me is it's essentially a Sig product at a cheaper price

Long awaited and happy for this video. THANKYOU!
I wish Taurus would hurry up and release the TS9 in the USA. I do like the TH series, however and am considering picking up the TH40 compact.
Have had a malineum pro 45 for 10 years have had no issues great gun
Hey I have a Taurus th9 and I love it. I went to the range to test it out and it's shoots flawlessly with the stock 17 round mag. If you buy a 32 round mag I highly recommend you put tape on it because its very loose and will jam up. Springfield XD 9mm 32 rnd mags works there are no other extended magazine made for the th9 but that one so tape up and hollows will jam sometimes
The Taurus TH9 is the updated 809 and the TH9c is the updated 809c, just as the G2C is the updated PT111 Millennium G2 and the G2S is the updated 709.
That shirt gives me LIFE!
I own the th9c. Have had no problems. The trigger could be better but I like it over the sd9ve. I feel just fine carrying it.
@@Brett235 you can get mags online all day.
@@bigsean2473 good luck with the 809s. Checked gunmagwarehouse, gunbroker, etc and practically no mags for it.
@hollowpoint they don't make the pt809 anymore. It's just THs and Gs from now on. The th9 is a pt809 just without the safety system in the grip.
For three hundred bucks and the Taurus warranty makes this one worth it
thanks for the report
I’m not sure what these Taurus guns were like when they were made in Brazil, but I do know that they are quality guns now. Their gun plant is about 40 miles from where I live and I’ve been there several times lately. I actually have a TH9 and have never had any bad issues with my gun. I think the people that trash them are just the kind of idiots that have been told the more you pay, the better quality it is. That’s just retarded.
It's actually on record their issues with QC. It's just a budget company. Nothing great about them
@@shahrozekhurram9836 Nope. Love it!
@@TecnamTwin mine too. here, in brasil, is the same issue. just can be good if it´s expensive,.as higher the price, more "perfection"
You had me at 1911 grip angle! I have a Tarus G3 and it's a workhorse! Getting one tomorrow!
Low density MIM parts, including MIM firing pin. Turkish guns are made with higher density MIM parts.
thanks for the report
@@Mrgunsngear
Well, that was not a report, just a side note.
Fatigue strength and fracture toughness
Sometimes a problem is evident in the dynamic properties such as fatigue strength or fracture toughness. This is slightly lower than the cast or wrought product and reflects the larger grain size and residual porosity associated with MIM."
^^^ - That right there clearly and factually states that casting is superior to MIM when it comes to fatigue strength and fracture toughness, and the main cause is residual porosity due to larger grain size.
www.pim-international.com/metal-injection-molding/mim-material-options-and-component-properties/
Now this looks more like a report.
@@BigSmartArmed i think the biggest problem is not heating/compressing enough to get out all the pours in the product so there are voids in it on the inside that cause weak spots to fail.

Always a good and fair review. Appreciate the budget friendly reviews. Your Taurus reviews have been really good.
Taurus does it again. A decent pistol

Late to reply.. but unless his finger was on the trigger when he released the slide.. I don’t see how that is possible.
Try to lift and drop back with your middle finger on your right hand to push the mag release on the right side. I’ve found that works well for me.

I like a double/single action pistol with a decocker. If someone doesn't like the pull of the double action, pull the hammer back & start going bang, bang, bang! I prefer that over a striker fire or safety! A hammer you can put your thumb on when you put it back in the holster is what I look for in a pistol. Looks like a good choice on a budget. Just buy a spare firing pin just in case!
