Thanks so much for a fantastic and detailed video! I was not looking forward to tackling this job, but was able to, step by step, dissemble the console, drop the exhaust, and switch out my damaged shifter for a salvage one. Yep, $150. -- you were spot on. Thanks again for sharing; really appreciate it!
Thanks for documenting this Procedure. I picked up a 2010 mini last year with the engine partially torn apart. When I picked it we couldn’t get the wheels to move to get it on the trailer. It had been sitting for a couple of years. The owner tried to force the shifter out of park but it wouldn’t move. He was a body builder and I was thinking you’re going to bust something Hosea! 😂 he did… the yellow pulley thing was broken and the wire springy thingy was sitting loose. I followed your video to pull things apart and am waiting for a new yellow pulley thingy. Fortunately the white lever wasn’t broken. 😅
Your video saved my week. Only video or article i could find that opens up and shows the inside of the shifter. Thank you for taking the time to make it. You really helped me out.
That price also has some value to the sport mode ,manual shift . My thoughts are that someone was hard on the manual shifting lever, which is connected to the paddle shifters electronically.
Daughter's 2007 Mini Cooper Base with automatic transmission had a situation with the gear shifter not moving out of park. Tried pulling the yellow tab to allow it change gears, put it snapped off in my hands. Took the assembly halfway apart to see if I could determine the problem and finally gave up. Had it towed to a shop and they determined the whole shifter mechanism had gone out, and they said it has an electronics cluster in it also and that's what makes it so expensive. $800 for the part and $600 for labor. Shop said it was apparently a well known problem as the mechanism had been redesigned, and the parts supplier said they said it is a high demand product so they always have it on their shelves. It's been a good car, and engine is still strong so we went ahead with the fix.
Great video👍🏼 mine is 2013 I get that gear light and gets stuck in park, I pull that yellow loop and I’m able to get unstuck but getting on my nerves so will just fix it. Thanks for ur video so helpful 🥰
Dude my car won't go ino park it's stuck in D,N and R. When I removed the shifter shield and tried pulling on the yellow tab it just lifted out without any tension which means it was sheared off somehow.
Bro my mini is stuck in Parking gear already did what you did, taking out the shifter cover and pull the little yellow string and still not letting me change gear, any ideas what could cause this?
If the shifter is not moving at all, double check that you pulled the yellow pull tab until it stops. As I recall it has some tension. If after trying that again and it still doesn't move, pull the center console off and remove the front plastic cover from the top of the shifter box (see 2:15 of the video). With all this off, you will be able to look at what the yellow tab is doing. It should be moving the white plastic piece that physically locks the shifter. If it is not, it is likely that the white plastic piece has broke and is binding (not allowing the yellow pull tab to do its job). At this point you have a couple options: 1) stop and complete what I did (pull the shifter box out and repair it) ...OR... 2) break the white plastic piece and you'll be able to shift. Warning with option 2: I'd only do this if you're in a bind and immediately need the car. You will get the code A0B6. The car will still function but the chime and gear warning light will always pop up. Now, if the shifter is moving but the car is still in park, then the cable has either broke or came loose from the transmission (see 4:45 of the video).
A gear message will always appear for sure. And there might be times that you can't start the engine if the computer doesn't see the car in Park or Neutral.
pedro sainz, if you can't repair the piece that I did, you'd have to get a whole new shifter. I sold the car 6 months after I fixed it. It was working flawlessly when I sold it. Melting the plastic together made it super strong.
"WOW" that is a nightmare. Someone needs to draw that part and do some 3d Prints for it. Did you get the part #? I just bought a mini and the code comes up. I'm not sure this is worth fixing.
@@NiXFiX ahh.. It is wierd. I did your test and I can't take the car out of park without turning the vehicle on and pressing the brake. I hear the solenoid. However, it is throwing the OBD2 code in my scanner.
Great, thanks, BUT - careful - below freezing, if tea/something was spilled in the cup holder (what an absolutely terrible design, car "designers"!?) the orange tab will break off if you pull it too hard! Frozen, it just breaks as nothing moves. Coated the gear box bits in WD-40 to release, thankfully, the jammed box, lubing the plastic lego parts that freeze & fail below zero w. a spill. Car wasn't made to be used in extreme cold, and spills are the worst in this weather. BTW - this was all due to tea being served in a cup not made for tea to be served in, the seam steaming apart & slowly leaking into the cupholder pre-discovery - diligence at the coffeeshop, and good luck motor pals!

I have the same problem, did it work?
Repair was perfect with your video, thanks
Thank you sir. You're a life saver.
can you dip the piece of plastic in some sort of resin to further strengthen it after you put the pieces back together?
Does this apply to a 07 bmw 320i?
I don’t have a lift, is it possible to fix without complete removal you think?
great vid really helpful
how did ya reassemble the unit and get those damn springs to stay in place without them popping back out and making you swear a lot???..
same for 2011 ? when im driving this light comes on.. gears skip and miss than is stuck in low gear 2000 rpm no higher ??? help please
i think my trans is going out on me unfortunaatley
Hi there does this code stop the car from starting? I have a 2007 with the same problem but it won't start.
It can. Sometimes. If the computer sees that the trans is in anything but park or neutral, it will prevent it from starting.
Any idea if you can swap parts out of a new shifter without having to take the old unit out?

as we say in Greece,,,,,,,paint it blue and throw it in the sea :D
Great video thanks for the help
Do you know the part number for the entire gear box?

fuck yeah bro i always weld plastic lmao
So silly question. If this is happening to your car and you don't fix it, What will happen? Thanks
A gear message will always appear for sure. And there might be times that you can't start the engine if the computer doesn't see the car in Park or Neutral.
Is that code possibly for something else? Because my shifter is not doing that yet? I guess it’s getting ready to possibly.?
Awesome video. My question is what if the with part that your glued cant be repaired? Any suggestions and hows is it working after a year

There is no part number for the piece I repaired. The assemblies are sold as a complete unit: 25167644233
