    Don't know if you will see this Jumbo, but I just realized something very useful: the special province upgrades that are unlocked by culture or tomes, like the Mob Camp from the Horde Tome, not only count as a forester or a mine or whatever, but can also be built where those province upgrade couldn't normally be built, meaning if your city is lacking that tile in it's domain, you can use those special structures to force the boost.

    I would just like to add: to repair an province improvement that has been pillaged, just left click on it. It costs some gold and takes 3 turns. This process is not tied to the cities production que. Also: you can change what improvement is in a given province. Just click on it then click on the swirly arrow icon in the box that pops up. If any other improvements are appropriate for that province, they will appear in the drop down menu that opens. Then, it just takes gold & time.
    I didn't figure any of this out until 60 turns into my 2nd game....
    That said - I am loving this game!. I especially like that unlike similar games, you don't have to worry about retro fitting existing units. So, so much. I also like that there is a great deal of malleability through unit and race enchantments throughout the game - even if you have preferred leader/race combo - it can play out very differently depending on the realm you're in, your start location, your goals.... Endless variety. Loads of fun.

    One other tip worth noting: Outpost territory counts for gaining access to magic materials and the province bonuses of wonders. If you're at your city limit, you can just plop one down by a cleared magic material or cleared wonder to start getting the bonuses for it as soon as the outpost completes. Outpost territory also counts as friendly for healing, so you can even drop one down just to have a fast healing zone outside your territory. With the first materium empire skill, it only takes a single turn to set an outpost up.

    Thanks for all these videos. Won my first game last night via Magic Victory or whatever it's called, and it was after a few losses about half way through due to just being unable to expand, build, or do anything in any amount of time. I had a tiny army and one loss crippled me to death. I had poor upkeep and such. That said, building my final item to trigger the 15 turns till I win thing where every single thing on the map immediately went "KILL THE RATS" was terrifying... luckily I was on easy and despite them all hating me... well they never attacked. The spawning Invaders were the only thing I had to deal with and I had such and advanced army by then that they didn't stand a chance.
    I can't stress how dangerous Death by Upkeep, as you put it, has been. My first few games all fell into the same problem. I never had gold, magic, or Imperium. I may have had 1, but not the other 2. I dunno if it's just me, but if I had to make any suggestions on what to look at for your first game, try focusing on the... I will fail to remember the name. Builder? Architect? Affinity. Orange kite looking shape, focuses on your infrastructure. Will give you a good intro in how to get to boosted, how to build etc... This may just be a personal thing though of course. It works for me, I still struggle with the others.

  • @r3dp9
    @r3dp9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If you built the wrong tile improvements and don't have a boost, you can select your tile improvements and switch them to a different type. It's completely free, and always takes three turns. If you plan ahead, you can always have enough 2-3 farms/foresters/quarries for unlocks and boost, despite not having enough tiles to have all those buildings at the same time.
    Also useful for switching your economy off of food and onto mana/research/gold once your city is at a comfortable size.
    You can delete Guild improvements. Select city, gear, menu, buildings. You can delete anything you don't want. Buildings cost no upkeep, so guild buildings are the only ones worth deleting.

I mean; they're color-coded the same as them. It's a nice mid-game incentive to think that you're working towards your wincon by acquiring the relevant mats for the one you want. It is worth noting that the boost serves as a discount on purchasing the structure. So the province improvements which provide the boost should be selected BEFORE the structure finishes building so you are refunded the discount. Better would be to have the structure boosted before starting its construction in the first place so the cost is reduced immediately when you start production.

    A few map generation tips:
    Low threat plus emerging infestations trait is a good synergy for a better early game that will still throw big monsters at you later.
    Far distance really spreads out factions (with 6+ this creates a giant map).
    It feels like the ai has a better time with maps that use deserts etc. instead of water. I haven't really seen them use ships yet (which is prob good since the auto resolve loves killing ship stacks that dominate in manual battle).

    I want to add a good trick that my 14 year old nephew immediately noticed. As you gain items and sell remains you will inevitably gain lots of default mounts and low tier goodies. You can sell those to other players. If they don't hate you, they will pay good money or mana for it. Or you can just gift it for relation boost. So you don't only get the minimal amount of gold from selling remains. You can make a fortune with those. It's almost always better than letting the dead heroes sit in crypt and maybe gain some knowledge from them once you build graveyard.

    Can't wait to see what Triumph adds in the coming months with balance passes and system improvement based on player feedback. Then each expansion. One thing I'm hoping for is the return of the Alignment based classes in some form. AoW 3 (with the expansions) had more for each alignment, including my favorite: Greyguard, the Neutral alignment. It focused on economy and upping critical hit chances, and made for some interesting and unpredictable play as you had to balance out good and evil actions to maintain neutrality. Was a little easier to do though as neutral was between -200 and +200 evil/good point. So hopefully they expand this.

    I've only played two games so I could be wrong, but in my second game, I delayed founding second and third cities a looong time, just to see how the game played out.
    The whole time, my hero cap was 1/1. Around turn 90 I founded two cities in the same turn, and then my hero cap went to 1/3 and I could finally animate and convert 2 more heroes from my crypt/prison.
    And this part is a little fuzzier in my memory, but when I defeated and converted a city and now had a 4th city (my city cap was 4/3), my hero cap also went up to 3/4. Only thing is I can't remember if hero cap went up as soon as I converted that 4th city, or if it didn't increase until I increased my city cap to 4/4.

    I think it should be pointed out that just outright always selling the remains is not really that good strategy... like if you are playing more of a warlike campaign where you take territories left and right and raze cities its not like you need that extra couple hundred gold, and you might much more prefer the extra mana income that you get for having loads of corpses in your crypt. (especially if you are shadow faction becasue if I recall correctly they get a bunch of tech that increases their gains from crypt and prison)
    Just sell all the ones that have too good gear to pass on. Late game most over 10 level heroes have incredibly good gear on them so it becomes harder to pass on them.

      If I'm not mistaken, your heroes are tied with your cities. Every time you build a new city, you get a new hero. So if you want more heroes, build up your city cap and build cities for the heroes to come into play.

      Aside from specific traits that give bonuses based on alignment, evil basically gives you an advantage in tempo. Instead of waiting for grievances to build to start a justified war, you invade the moment it is convenient.

      AI uses force, not tactics. If your army is made to be tactical and not "hit enemy in face" then AI will perform badly with it.

      @@secretname2670 yet the AI you face is generally tactical with a strength of 1400 + per army ; so that’s my point now I’ve seen my army prevail in certain circumstances where I thought even I would loose , sure . But that doesn’t negate the fact 8/10 times your right it just lines everyone up in a straight line and tries to win that’s not responsive and adaptive ,that’s just lazy programming IMO 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @secretname2670
      @secretname2670 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@magnificojuandissimo6010 well, the AI does not use spells unless it has 200% net benefit and it does not see difference between a bad and a good position in the grand scheme, only good terrain and bad terrain.
      I've found immense success with auto resolve as a culture of Mystic Goblins led by an Astral Dragon because all mystic spells are very powerful and incentivize the AI to use them almost as if it was an actual player, but in reality the AI is really dumb.
      Learn to abuse and use that to your advantage.
      I've won many battles against a much statistically stronger opponent just because the AI cannot understand combos and marginal utility gain. It operates best with passive abilities, because these do not require comboing.

  • @beltar2
    @beltar2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Who plays with diplomacy? It requires no skill to kill any single AI. Set up teams and go fot carnage so the AIs had some chances.
    Hero in Crypt if it's from independent city can be sold for good price if there will be the event of the city asking you to do so, but till you encounter such an event you will not know that this's possible. Sometimes it may be good idea to sell them not for money but for important item.
    Planning for speciefic victory is rather pointless just because no matter what you plan but there're good chances that AI with it's additional resources will outrun you. You always should play agressively only that way you can be ahead of everybody by cutting out their resourses.
    Upkeep is a problem but it only force the player to run for some speciefic technologies which reduce upkeep, give money and etc. It's just a thing everybody will meet playing for the 1st time especially with AoW 3 experience where money usually is not a problem on random map for long time.

      Yeah, the game is heavily skewed towards combat, and the combat is way too bloated with tons of unnecessary complexity with a lot of modifiers, attack types and parmetres on every unit, in my opinion.
      Focus on the combat also makes playstyles not focused on military less interesting.
      Battles being complex and taking at least multiple minutes each make multiplayer practically impossible.
      I wish it has the combat of Humankind.

    why is everyone saying this game is good? it's actual trash compared to AoW2. no special racial units, every race literally feels the exact same. AoW2 had 15 races with completely different units. The ingame music is uninspired dog shit compared to AoW2, too. Also, why do the buildings/towns look exactly the same for every nation? that's so fucking lazy, in AoW2 every nation had their own, thematic art for buildings... AoW4 is just extremely lackluster in so many aspects compared to its ancestor AoW2

      just left click on the unit in the army display at the bottom of the screen with the army selected to select the unit individually. Then you can tell it to move out from the army it is in, provided it still has movement points. Best done at the start of the turn before you tell the army to move. You can't split armies on the same exact tile. Only one army per tile.
