Now days there are no props really, it's sadly all done on computers! Kudos to Debbie Reynolds for saving what she could! She is such a wonderful lady!
Debbie Reynolds may she Rest In Peace with Jesus Christ. Americas sweetheart....her legacy may be know with singing in the rain, but historians will note her as the greatest historian of the Hollywood royalty......
It is so hard to preserve clothing. I use to work in retail. Even unused clothing over time (even clothing stored in closets) get dry rot. If clothing was put in vacuum bags and stored in cool dry cedar closets, they may last a while longer but what fun is that. Clothes were meant to be worn and enjoyed. The glamorous days of Hollywood have changed, however styles come around and go around.
there is another pair of slippers that were given by judy to a big English star in the early seventies.they were very close friends .i know this to be true as i worked on a show in London that the friend was the star of.
Ms. Reynolds had a plan to establish a museum with her items toward the end of her life, but no one seemed to be interested. She did sell off some of the items as she got older because she figured at that point she had pitched the idea to almost everyone and it was hopeless. Like walking your script around Los Angeles and everyone keeps on telling you no. I believe Ms Reynolds' son is now trying to create a museum for his mom's astute purchases.
...and also Mr. Kent Warner for his realizing the REAL value of the Hollywood costumes of long ago.

I got 4 screen accurate tops from halloween 2007 and 2009. They aren't screen worn but screen accurate. And 3 from scream 4.
I would never ever throw away old hollywood customs! keep them all and mark them with a card of what movie and year.

Debbie Reynolds is my spirit animal.
E THS also has a good doc on the ruby slippers
How in the hell did they not just set up a massive museum?!? Insanity. MGM should only have been sold to someone who cared about it and it’s history.
Very true, The way the studios treated their own history is awful.
agreed--they didn't care for their own history--tragic

What about sketch or blueprint? Can people at least preserve the blueprint for the clothing sonit can be reproduce again?
It doesn't make any sense that there would be only one pair. Dance shoes take a real beating. Toe shoes get replace weekly.
maybe I got the date wrong,it could have been 68.its a while ago ,can you remember things exactly 45 years ago.but it did happen...
Steven metcalf judy garland died in 1969 !
Its sickening to watch this in a way. Strange that people are so dense.

This would have been impossible since Judy died in 1969.
