It's very possible that Erlang Shen will be the new Jade Emperor. And maybe that was his plan all along. Also, if i recall correctly, didn't Erlang in the OJTTW burn Sun Wukong's mountain, while he was on the journey, just for his own entertainment? He must have hated his uncle's rule and ideologies and needed a way to overthrow him, without becoming suspicious.
Yeah, Erlang Shen did indeed burn down parts of Flower Fruit Mountain, after Sun Wukong had already been captured 😬 And Erlang Shen being the seventh member of the Brotherhood is a really interesting idea! Erlang Shen definitely could have motive for overthrowing the Jade Emperor, as his backstory is that his mother was exiled for adultery and for Erlang's illegitimate birth 👀
@@Dimitsune I've seen a few people talk about it, but it's also mentioned in the footnotes of the Anthony C. I don’t know if he will become a villain. He’s a mythical hero who would give his life protecting the celestial realm and the earth since he was born half human. The only time he had a villain role was in an alternate story called the Magic Lotus Lantern. He imprisoned his sister for marrying a mortal and his nephew Chenxiang fought him and rescued her afterwards. Some adaptations say Chenxiang was trained under Wukong but I don’t think that was canon to the JTTW timeline.
@@bluebelt1235 Well, maybe not a villain, but an anti-villain. As you recall, Azure in the LMK show served the Celestial Realm. However, he hated the fact that the celestials only cared for themselves instead of the Mortal Realm. Maybe, that is not just Azure's opinion, it is also Erlang's since he is a celestial and a mortal as you say.
(My English is not good, so I use a translator) I'm Chinese and I don't think anyone can take the place of Jade Emperor, including Erlang Shen. Because if the Jade Emperor does die in season 5, all Chinese viewers will think it's a hilarious adaptation, and the Jade Emperor is the highest and most widely circulated being in China in both folk belief and mythology. In all the Chinese movies and cartoons I've watched since elementary school, there hasn't been a single person who could really take the Jade Emperor's place. I think it's the third possibility, or the Jade Emperor isn't dead at all but just hiding, otherwise my jaw would have dropped to the floor when the animation aired
That is a good point - perhaps he isn't dead. But there would need to be a really good explanation for why it looked like he died and how Azure got the Jade Emperor's power. When watching season 4, I did think it was an odd choice to have the Jade Emperor die. I'm definitely curious to see what the writers will do.
Already the Jade Emperor had lived for 14 billion years, he had experienced so much. I'm more inclined to believe that he has a better way of handling the situation, such as letting the incident fester to the point where he has to deal with it himself. Or maybe he's just a wily old man who just wants to wait until the ulcer on his arm is so bad he can't bear to look at it before he cuts it off in one fell swoop🤣@@RVSketch

Definitely not MK, he has no experience in ruling or taking charge the way the JE does. His power is currently unstable and his only interest is protecting the mortal realm not ruling over it. Ne Zha is a much better candidate than MK.
I could totally see heaven holding like a meeting on who should be the new Jade Emperor and while they would probably eventually land on Erlang, I could totally see Nezha being their plan B. He’s powerful enough to contain the Jade Emperor’s power, he’s loyal to heaven, he’s Taoist, responsible, a pretty formidable fighter and leader, and he’s already royalty. It’s just that Nezha would never agree to this because he knows he has other responsibilities cus even though he’s no longer guarding the map he’s still head of heaven’s armies and the only member of the celestial court that does his job💀
I wonder if Ne Zha could actually become an outlaw - he is guarding the Jade Emperor's power, but what if he disagrees with who Heaven chooses and refuses to give the power to them? I can see him obeying orders and putting aside his personal opinions, but what if it was clear Heaven chose someone corrupt? 🤔
