    A scalper is someone who buys up local inventory of a needed/wanted item with the intent to deprive others of it so they can resell it at a much greater marked up price.

    • @TheIslandViper
      @TheIslandViper  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Correct. Hence controlling the supply.

    • @giltucker2007
      @giltucker2007 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A big to differ. Their intent is not a deprived others scalpers usually don't care about others they care about making money on the item it's not like they do it for the intent to deprive others of getting something that makes absolutely no sense

    • @Spongemonkey26
      @Spongemonkey26 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @giltucker2007 it makes all the sense because in theory depriving others of finding something at retail increases the chances a scalper can sell at a higher price.

    People seem to have a problem with “fair market value” after an item is no longer available. THAT is not scalping, just butt hurt people when their sense of entitlement fails

    I figure if I get an extra figure and sell it to a buddy at cost + shipping, that's okay.
    If someone programs a bot to buy up all of an Amazon exclusive at cost and then sets up another bot to sell it on their own Amazon store front for double, that would be a scalper.

      You kind of missed the point. The rhetoric seems due more to the fact that they don’t like the fact that someone else is making profits they aren’t. If they don’t think they’re getting enough money for their products, they should raise their prices. Consumers will buy it, or they won’t.

    I match your sentiment. Valaverse Trigger at one point was selling for almost $200. If you want aftermarket prices to drop, produce more, which he eventually did. DC Direct TAS Batwing is up for pre-sale again. Some bought it resale at after-market rate or waited. I purchased 2 Warbirds from Target because it allowed a saving of $7 free shipping. I sold the other, which was cost plus shipping + eBay fees, and I had two would be buyers crying on eBay to sell it to them for retail shipped. If I put it up for auction, starting at $1, they still would not have got their lowball dream price. Which proves the market dictates the cost.

    Ive been selling off a lot of my collection to fund new stuff. If Im selling a figure that is going for $60, but only costed $20 at retail, am I supposed to just sell it for $40 less than the going rate? Hell no, that is so dumb. After it's all said and done, its only about a $20 profit and there are a lot of figures that just don't sell. My question is, where is all this heat for the guy who pays the 'scalper' 3-4 times the MSRP on a new figure that just came out? So many are lining up for battle with their white armor and their spears against the person who charges too much. I could probably count the number of times on my hand that I've heard any of them also hold the enablers accountable. If more buyers would hold to their feelings on the actual value of items, the secondary market prices would be a lot lower by necessity. Once that happens, incentive is lost and the whole problem diminishes from where it is now at the very least.

    • @TheIslandViper
      @TheIslandViper  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All of this. I think it’s mostly just made up outrage to be honest. The people paying more want the items, and don’t care what they pay to get them.
