    The Fat Electrician is studying for his Masters (I think) degree in history and spends a lot of time checking official government documents and eye witness accounts before making a video. Admittedly he does adjust things for comedy but the overwhelming majority of the information is correct. Also he manages to find the most outlandish events and people that history seems to have forgotten and makes it funny as hell. I hope you react to more from him his videos are some of the best out there imo

      Through all his comedy, he's one of the more accurate youtube historians now. It's extremely invaluable he deep dives into official government documents so we don't have to. I've had to do what he's doing in the past and it's extremely exhausting. There's a ton of mind-numbing minutia within those documents to where there's so much information it's almost like the reader becomes a zombie trying to read it.

    About the prisoners being let go...you have to remeber back then personal honor was a big thing to many soldiers and leaders. Clays action to take the blame for his men was viewed as very honorable by the Mexican leaders so they let them live.

    There are a few characters in history who had unbelievable lives. Cassius Clay, Theodore Roosvelt, Simo Häyhä, Mad Jack Churchill, Bill "Piper" Millin, Lauri Törni and so on. Bill Millin might be unknown to most but his claim to fame is he stormed the beaches of Normandy in a kilt playing the bagpipes armed with only his sgian-dubh(Traditional Scotish bootknife) and marched up and down the shore playing to inspire the troops, he and his men then marched to relieve the Ox and Bucks 6th airborne divison who had been under siege by a bridge for hours. As Millin and his comrades advanced he was playing the bagpipes, they litteraly went to smoke Nazis and save their friends to a soundtrack that was heard all around them. There are so many larger than life people, history is indeed stranger than fiction.

      What gets me finding it more believable is that most of not all the things told in this story seem to have been recorded in verifiable ways other than “trust me bro.”. Like publicly refusing Lincoln unless he signs the emancipation proclamation is going to e available for anyone since well… it’s in the public.
      Spaces freed and given land and money probably has its own paper trail, especially since I imagine he’d want these freed people to be as legally protected as possible. Other than that, if people were pissed they were gonna talk about it.
      Shit considering slave owners hated him, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a lot of exaggerated stories about him to pair him in a negative light lol.
      The sherif having issues, becoming ambassador to Russia, assassination attempt in front of a crowd where he beat the shit out of the guy, the court case where “Well that’s just how Kentucky folk roll” was accepted, all the friggin duels…
      That’s all stuff that most likely is documented by multiple sources including sources that aren’t favorable to him.
      That’s kinda on the face of it without knowing Fat Electrician’s process that stood out to me as making it believable imo.

      Politicians of old were all gangster. You have people like Winston Churchill who sat on the roof of his home drinking while London was being bombed one night. You also have Andrew Jackson (Representative, Senator, State Supreme Court Justice, General, Farmer, Governor of Florida [at one point], and the 7th President) who is an interesting person to say the least (some of what he did was good, quite a bit of what he did was bad in retrospect).
      Then there is Ulysses S. Grant, a US President and Civil War General (the one who went from a small time general to the leader of the entire Union Army and forced Lee to surrender). His story alone is an amazing one to read.

    To be fair, being a part of one of the richest families helps with getting the best lawyers

    • @eatonknass247
      @eatonknass247 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Too bad you missed the part where the best lawyer was his cousin. In the south, you just hit him up and he does you a solid cuz family.

    • @4myzelf
      @4myzelf 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@eatonknass247 exactly, being wealthy makes it so that Cassius and his cousin can afford to become lawyers via the best schools and being in the wealthy elite makes it easier for them to know someone who can connect them with the best mentors.
      Just cuz you're smart doesnt mean you can get into prestigious schools, just cuz you graduate from the best school doesnt guarantee you becoming the best lawyer especially if you dont have a good mentor and just because know where the best lawyer mentors are doesnt mean that they would take you under their wing.
      Thus, while his cousin could have become the best lawyer if he had come from a more humble background, the money definitely made easier.

    • @nadjasunflower1387
      @nadjasunflower1387 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@4myzelf made it easier, yes. but Cassius's own attitude and vocal narrations dismissed any of that he would have had in the South. so while he went to the best school and was technically a lawyer, he probably never had much chance to use that education. Which is why he called his cousin in, who'd never lost in 40+ years.
      his personal views creates a negative to the positive his money would have enabled. basically a wash and everything is neutral in that regard.

    I honestly don't think Britain would have joined or supported the Confederates in the Civil War. It didn't need the threat of Russian attack to stay our hand. Some might have wanted to, in order to get back at the country for the whole Independence thing, but really by that point we as a country had already moved on from that (we'd had the Napoleonic Wars between then and the Civil War). Also by this point in time not only had my country already itself outlawed slavery, the whole anti-slavery movement had become a thing of national pride for British people (we even sent our own ships out to forcibly stop slave trade ships) and there was absolutely no way in hell we were going to support a bunch of Americans who still supported and were actively fighting to defend slavery. If Britain was going to join the American Civil War I wholeheartedly believe it would have been on the side of the Union.

    thing is, this wasn't in the area of the "Wild West" all this goes down on the eastern coast of the USA, the "Modern/ Cultured" side of the country. I seriously believe the US Military learned "Proportional retribution" from Cassius Clay. ( If you haven't seen the video of this same TH-camrs video "America Obliterates Half Of Iran's Navy In 8 Hours! - Operation Praying Mantis" talking about Americas Proportional response. Lastly I HIGHLY believe this man was the sole reason Dueling became illegal in 1865.

I am a HUGE Star wars fan and refuse to watch the cartoons. In my mind until it happens in live action its not cannon. As for reaction videos, its kinda hard to see your "Reaction" when we dont even get to see YOU.Please dont take this as an insult its just how many of us feel. Love Fat Electrician Reactions, but not Cartoon ones. Hope u do well

      I don't think it has anything to do with a generation, but rather, personal preference. To each their own as they say. I get that my style isn't for everyone.I love anime and if that means missing out on views, that's alright with me because I'm doing what makes me happy.
