"On The Samara’s Wing: Ethnobotanical Negotiations of Cultural Space" Opening Reception Video

On October 21st, 2021 The City of Pembroke Pines and The Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery presented On The Samara’s Wing: Ethnobotanical Negotiations of Cultural Space, an exhibition that focuses on artists who explore immigration, diaspora, transnational identity, race, and belonging through dramatic allegories of landscape, botany and organic materials.
The evening featured a special performance by Haitian singer and guitarist Inez Barlatier looping some of her classic melodies.
Exhibiting artists include John Alleyne, Edouard Duval-Carrié, Gonzalo Fuenmayor, Rhea Leonard, T. Eliott Mansa, Lisyanet Rodriguez and Onajídé Shabaka. Curated by Taryn Moller Nicoll.
