Between 2007-2023 in my opinion the most important central defenders milan had those years is Maldini, Nesta, Thiago Silva, Simon Kjaer and Tomori because when Simon Kjaer came to Milan it was very hard times for the club and in serie a Milan was placed 14th and Milan place was threated and the status as a big European club and even as a top Italian club was lost, milan was totally finished.. When Kjaer came to Milan in the serie a table Milan was i think 14th or 12th and many people thought Milan was finished as a big club in Europe and some even thought Milan never would be able to compete with Juventus and the other top clubs in serie a for at least a very long time.. Simon came in the January window as I said Milan was 14th and been loosing many embarrassing games like Atalanta 5-0 happened shortly before Simon and Ibra arrive.. Iam gonna be honest, when he came he just flopped in Atalanta and I was in big doubt that he would be able to be determined enough or even had enough quality to help milan back to win games and be a serie a top club again... 2011 I saw Kjaer in roma when milan played them in the league Kjaer was having a very hard time to handle Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the other Milan attackers and the game ended up with Milan winning and Ibrahimovic scored two goals were he made Kjaer look like a serie b defender, he didnt have a chance to stop Ibrahimovic and when Ibra scored the winning goal he shot the ball over the keeper and runned through with Kjaer besides trying to push him away from winning the ball that was coming down to ground after Ibras lob over the keeper, Zlatan basically made a lob pass over the keeper that came down infront of the goal, Ibra jumped and hit the ball with his head and scored the winning goal while Kjaer was trying to push to get the ball but tall Ibra made it looks easy and Kjaer didnt have a chance winning the ball, it went in goal. As a Swede I also seen Simon in Denmark when Sweden played against them in euro play off game and also this time Ibra made Sweden go to euro 2016 but this time Kjaer wasnt involved in the goals and I thought he did good and I knew he was a quality defender from other games I saw him in like in Ligue 1 and Danish national games. But like i said before to be honest I was in big doubt that he would be enough for Milan to be in the top again because if I seen him dont be great enough in roma and atalanta how could he manage to make it in Milan? But one part of me said that dont make any sense how he played in different serie a teams because some players raise their level when they go to bigger clubs with better players around and I had huge respect for Maldinis scouting knowledge, I new Maldini have a great eye when he bringed players to Milan he was great at knowing what player would work for Milan and he bringed many cheap players that people was in doubt if they were good enough and that made me confident Kjaer could make it because Maldini was almost always right when he bringed a player Bennacer, Theo Hernandez, Maignan and Leao was players that Maldini bought cheap that was risky not in terms of their price but in terms of their quality if they hade enough quality for Milan.. What also made me a little bit confident when Kjaer came was that i saw him in fennerbache vs man u in euro league and that game he was like the opposite from the game I saw him with roma because this game with fennerbache he was controlling Ibrahimovic the whole game he kept Ibra in his pocket and he marked him man to man and their was no space for Ibra, you could see it 100% because Ibra even started to fight with Kjaer after Simon won a duel you could see Ibra was struggling and he reacted this way with anger... Anyway this transfer window Maldini bringed Ibrahimovic and Kjaer and the summer before milan had bought many young talented players with high potential but with low price level because at this time they done nothing yet to show they were big players.. The young team was struggling in the league like I said 5-0 against Atalanta and 14th place in serie a, then in January Ibra and Kjaer had arrived and then suddenly Milan stop loosing games, I think their was just one lost game against genoa but after this the winning mentality was coming back to Milan after years of struggle, Ibra made the players stop being afraid and Simon Kjaer played like Nesta and helped the other defenders in the line to stand right and Kjaer was playing like the man of the match every single game you never saw him make mistakes and it was like the last pieces of the puzzle of this young Milan squad was two experienced older players like Ibra and Kjaer, it was fun seing Ibra and Kjaer become like best friend in the team they often sit eat together and their place was besides in the dressingroom. From seeing them fight in fennerbache vs manchester and see Ibra grab him and after the Denmark vs Sweden games when they were the rivals of the pitch, from seeing all this the years before too see them lifting the Scudetto together it almost made me cry because as a Swedish Milan fan I love this two players
