Oh man, I know the feeling. I landed a mile out from an LZ one time in someone's yard (totally pilot error) you can watch on TH-cam. glad you made the field! Might be time to upgrade to a double surface. I was in an Alpha 180, now finally in a Falcon 3 170 so I'm one to talk. Ha. We live, we learn to fly another day. Happy soaring.
Thanks!, lots of luck involved, but eked out just about every bit of up-slope breeze on the way. Over the last knob took a more direct line and went a little lee side requiring me to pull in a little and lose a little altitude
Thanks :) It wasn't as much a lesson in speed to fly as it was in lines to take. Between Ed Levin and Mission there is no solid ridge, there are spines, jumping from spine to spine, where to cross, when to follow is the trick. I was flying at trim (glider trimmed pretty much at min sink) the whole way in this video, just once did I have to pull in near the end, and also to land of course... As far as being prepared, I wasn't, if I plan to go xc, I do bring a little more stuff, like my glider bag ;)
@@EHangGlide so you don’t fly with your glider bag every time in your harness? Your ground speed was good given that you were on half VG, the spines or little ridges were surely working cause to that looked like a long glide. Nice touch down
When I bought my first brand new topless glider, Laminar MR700, in the owner's manual it said that if you are pulling vg, you should fly faster, the more you pull. The reason they stated is that with full vg if you fly slow the wingtips can stall much easier, and the recovery can end up losing more altitude (and taking you off course.) If it was just calm air, then pulling vg and appropriate speed would be the answer, but in this situation it would most likely end up in an out landing....
Never give up…. playing it to most possible outcome with a safe landing !
Not boring for those that have been in that situation. Nail biter more like it. Glad it worked out. Sorry to hear about your truck thief. That sucks.
I think I held my breath for the entire clip. Nice save.
Thanks, kept thinking I was going to get a low save to get up, but happy to make it "home"
This was pretty amazing! How do you like CG 1000 harness? Are they still made?

It is a double surface, S3, I started on a ds Pulse 30 years ago...:)
@@EHangGlide Oh boy, I feel silly 😜 North wings are sweet.. I'm still scared to fly a S3 lol. Love your videos man, thanks for sharing.
I've 'jumped fences' a few times too 😅
Nicely done!

Omg that was awesome!!
Not boring, nice one
Nah, that's just long distance precision spot landing. Looks like you had about the same AGL till the end.
Yes
Nicely done. For the noobs, can you explain the speed you chose to fly, and did you have everything on board to secure your glider if you landed out?

Woohoo!
Pull that VG on hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice!
No full variable geometry?
No, don't think I would have made it doing that, I was flying slow and trying to use every little line and bubble of lift to make it :)
😬👍
Nice !
