A song which, in other versions, always hits me with the idea that sometimes people do resist authority, is here performed with the recognition of the derangement of the title character. That was always in the lyrics but, wow! The piano is a roiling sea against the dispassionate vocal.
Rufus, I am in awe, brother. That is marvellous. You really advancing in your craft. I bought an album of yours some fifteen years ago, and it was pretty good. Certainly signs of promise. But it felt like you were groping around and not really getting hold of what you were after. Seems youve got ahold of it now. Congrats. This album is exceptional. Your dad would be right proud of this.
I think he is, but last I looked his Euro shows are almost sold out. Just saw his first show of the tour in LA yesterday and it is absolutely stunning and beautiful
