I will never forget when Gloria Estefan broke her back, and it didn't look like she would walk again. She did rehabilitation and got so much love from family, friends and fans. The next release was "Coming Out Of The Dark" I still get chills.
Vicky Sue Robinson was the original singer of this song in 1975. It was a major Disco hit and all over the radio! I wasn't old enough to go to clubs but I was dancing my little a*s off with this song. It is one of my favorites ever! Gloria Estefan did a great job w this cover!
I was 12 in 1975… and I absolutely loved VSR and her huge hit! I’m not always very accepting of covers, but Gloria’s is outstanding! One of the best covers ever!
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "1-2-3"!!! Gloria Estefan & The Miami Sound Machine had 6 top 10 hits including 4 #1's. "Turn The Beat Around" was originally a hit song by Vicki Sue Robinson 1976. Written by Gerald Jackson and Peter Jackson.
She has some great ballads also…”Words Get In the Way”, “I Can’t Stay Away From You”, Don’t Wanna Lose You”, and “Anything For You” were all top ten hits in the 80s. Highly recommend.
I was going through a divorce, unfortunately and still in love with my soon to be ex-wife. I had to drive several thousand miles to get home and had one cassette tape with Gloria Estefan. Every time "Anything For You" played I would cry like a baby.
She was the queen of the 80's ballads for me. I Can't Stay Away From You" and "Anything For You" were my favorites. I have a huge soft spot for Always Tomorrow as well.
The original version of this song was a hit, then Gloria Estefan did this version and it was a huge hit all over again! Both versions are great and worth hearing. Gloria is amazing! Her song Words Get In the Way makes my heart ache (slow dance type song). Really shows the depth and beauty of her voice. ❤
Great remake of a Disco classic by Vicky Sue Robinson. React to "Coming Out Of The Dark." It was her first hit following a horrible accident that almost paralyzed her.
The movie is called the Specialist. It stars Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone. Y’all need to check out a different side of Gloria Estefan. She has great ballads as well. Songs like Don’t wanna lose you, Coming out of the dark or Words Get in the Way. So many more uptempo and slow songs to check out as well.
Oh wow! I really wish you would have heard the original version sung by Vicki Sue Robinson first, THAT one was one of the disco dance songs of the 1970s it got us out on the roller-skating floor all the time! I love Gloria Estefan she covered this song spectacularly in the 1990's and THAT would get a lot of us out on the dance floor, we had to dance to it too! I'm so glad you enjoyed her cover to this song though! I enjoyed your reaction! ☮💕
Ikr, same thing I was thinking!!! Now that they've heard this one, the original is a MUST-HEAR! We loved it as kids growing up in the 70s, and it still slaps hard to this day! It has that true disco vibe that can't be duplicated, even though Gloria did the thing!😆
I really wish they did too, while l love Gloria Estefan and all of her music. She did not do it as good as Vicki, Sue Robinson it really was her song as far as I’m concerned
Gloria Estefan was really a pioneer for getting Latin sounds and rhythm played on radio in the 80's and they had a few good hits along the way. She is a true pioneer.
Loved Gloria’s version of this but I can’t hear this song without hearing the Vicki Sue Robinson original, Vicki Sue brought it , it was absolute 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥! Vicki Sue should have been a big star!
Impossible not to groove when you hear her. Right when it started , you guys couldn't sit still. And yes, her songs were a staple in clubs back in the day. Love you guys, Aloha
Gloria is so awesome, my father listened to her a lot back in the day. "Anything For You" "Don't Wanna Lose You" "Here We Are" "1-2-3" "Get On Your Feet" "Can't Stay Away From You" "Dr. Beat" "Reach" "Falling In Love (Uh-Oh)" "Live For Loving You" "Words Get In The Way" "I See Your Smile" "Cuts Both Ways" "Wepa" "Wrapped" "You'll Be Mine (Party Time)" "It's Too Late" "Betcha Say That" "Can't Forget You."
Love Gloria, for me Out of the Dark is the most emotional, triumph of hope and will over adversity - always gives me a lump in the throat. You'll love it.
Saw Gloria first row at the Garden in the early 80s one of my favorite electric concert moments The Queen of Salsa was electric, thanks for the memories.
thank you guys for this iconic song choice who was originally from Vicki Sur Robinson an iconic mega disco hit back in 1976 but almost two decades later back in 1994 Gloria Estefan released this amazing cover
Awesome! You guys nailed it. This is a cover from 1970s Disco days. I believe this is from 1994 "The Specialist" soundtrack. Sylvester Stallone, James Woods, and Sharone Stone.
Amber, watching the way you react to songs like this, the way you instantly get into that groove and just feel every bit of the rhythms .... I have a feeling that if you were in your teens and twenties in the 70's, you would have LIVED at the clubs every night. Not to leave Jay out but it takes you a while to really get into it. It's like you wait to see if the "coolness" is going to keep on before you get going. That's why I love watching your reactions... you two ROCK!!!!!!!!
Gloria has rhythm and soul in her Miami sound! Whenever you hear that beat you want to jump up and dance! Got to shake those hips… you’re right Jay! “ Turn it upside down!”
Great pick! Did you know Laura Branigan also did a cover of this song? For your next Gloria outing, may I recommend "Live For Loving You"? It's such a catchy, playful tune! Also - Yes, this was on the soundtrack of a Stallone movie, but it wasn't Rocky. It was called "The Specialist", where Sly plays a freelance hitman. It also stars Sharon Stone and James Woods. Good action flick.
I was lucky enough to watch her live in Miami when she was in "The Sound Machine " ! When she had her accident i got in contact with her at the hospital and sent her a puzzle from Maine ! I got a nice note from her thanking me and how so many sent her gifts which she ended up giving most of them to the children's ward ! That says it all about her ! Love her ! 💓
"On March 20, 1990, Gloria's tour bus was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler truck during a snowstorm, leaving her with injuries that doctors said would leave her unable to walk or dance again. Her recovery would take four hours of surgery and months of recovery." On March 20th I went to the concert ticket window in my local mall to buy a ticket to her concert. There was a big sign saying concert cancelled. I was so so so bummed she was hurt! I really loved her music!
Gloria did have serious club bangers, but you guys should check out some of her ballads. They hit DEEP. Words Get In The Way, Can’t Stay Away From You, and especially Don’t Wanna Lose You are all songs you NEED to check out.
When I was in high school my stage band played turn the beat around… it was one of the most difficult songs I remember playing because I was a percussionist… I played xylophone, suspended symbol, bass drum, cow bell , chimes all in the same song
Gloria performed her Olympics theme song "Reach" on stage for the first time since recovering from her tragic bus accident and got a standing ovation before she sang. It was so emotional and beautiful. The song bore more meaning than just the Olympics and you could feel the emotions going through the room. I believe she got another standing ovation at the end of the performance also. She's been one of my top Latina singers since her days with The Miami Sound Machine. I had her cassette of her MI TIERRA album, which was all in Spanish, and was obsessed with the title song. Even though my Spanish speaking was bad, I learned the whole song and sang it every time I heard it. Back then the cassette sleeves had the lyrics on it. She's already in Icon status and a living legend. Love her....
You’re mixing up 2 events. Gloria’s tour bus accident was in 1990. She made her comeback performance in 1991 at the American Music Awards with “Coming out of the Dark” from the album Into the Light. She performed “Reach” in 1996 for the Olympics.
More songs by Gloria Estefan to check out: 1. Live For Loving You 2. Bad Boy 3. Here We Are 4. Don't Wanna Lose You 5. Can't Stay Away From You 6. Anything For You
I remember Gloria the most for her tireless work she did to help the ppl of South Fla from the disastrous Hurricane Andrew in 1994. She had days of top talent from around the world. Fed 1,000s of ppl. A one women & husband disaster icons. The music, I've always loved, The Sound Machine was always tight, Conga drums being the feature
Love the other two - but I think THIS one is my favourite. So glad you finally heard it. Another dance one is 1,2,3 ...............but if you want to see a different softer side - do Anything For You. Amazing ballad - full of heart and passion.
This was a disco remake originally recorded by Vickie Sue Robinson. My favorite Gloria Estefan disco-style song is "Heaven's What I Feel". It was from her 1998 Gloria album and really brings back the 70's disco sound. You'll love it.
Love, love, love this one, this song made me fall in love with Gloria Estefan, this amazing singer and person, she has so much to offer . I know this is a cover and i love the original but her version is just 🔥 I highly recommend Hotel Nacional from her,one of my favourite Gloria song although she has lots and lots of great songs 🤩
Gloria is pure fun! Other great dance hits include "Oye," "Live for Loving You," and "Wepa." Big ballads hits like "Don't Wanna Lose You," "Reach," and "Anything for You."
I LOVE LOVE watching you both enjoying the era of music I grew up with. It makes me happy. We had a lot of happy joyful music. Unlike today's music. I was born in the 60's & I thank God I was born then. I enjoy your channel. Makes me appreciate my era of music. ❤️🎶❤️🎶
My mom was friends with the mother of Clay Ostwald on keyboards 1987- present. In the early 1990's his mom said to my mom "when is he going to settle down and get a real job". I'm glad he stayed with the music.
Seen her at an outdoor concert late 80's-90. At one point, she comes out with a guitarist, and performed "Anything For You" that left me wide-eyed and opened mouthed.
Gloria recorded this for the soundtrack of The Specialist (1994) starring Sylvester Stallone, Sharon Stone, Eric Roberts, James Woods, & Rod Steiger. It was also featured on her album Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me (1994).
I like videos like this when the song first starts and the look on Jay's face is " I don't know if I'm really going to like this". Then when the song gets going he does.
New Artist Suggestion - try Gloria Estefan's backup singer from Miami Sound Machine, Cuban born, two-time Grammy Award winner Jon Secada and his "If You Go" or "Angel."
I saw Gloria Estephan and the Miami Sound Machine in concert with my husband up in Cleveland years ago. One of the BEST concerts I have ever been to! Such energy!! Fantastic!!!
This is a great cover of Vicki Sue Robinson's classic. I actually met Vicki Sue Robinson when I was at a club one night where she was performing. I bought her a drink, sat down beside her and we chatted.🤫 Of course, chatting wasn't easy with all that loud music and she then had to do her performance at which point we parted company. I had VIP cards for a number of dance clubs.😉 I was always a big fan of Gloria Estefan & The Miami Sound Machine. Peace & Love🕊❤
You have to hear her Cumbia albums like "Mi Tierra" and "Abriendo Puertas." There are so many good songs on those albums! Have you heard her most popular song "Conga?"
This is off a great album by Gloria, “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me”, featuring various 60s/70s songs. I like her rendition of “Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying”.
I will never forget when Gloria Estefan broke her back, and it didn't look like she would walk again. She did rehabilitation and got so much love from family, friends and fans. The next release was "Coming Out Of The Dark" I still get chills.

Vickey Sue's other big hot was JC PENNEY, Do'in it right!
I think Gloria did a better job than the original, it has more energy!!!!
Agreed.
Vickie Sue Robinson originally sang this in the 70s. Her version is a little faster tempo. You should hear her version
The original is righteous!
Yes you need to hear the original version
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "1-2-3"!!! Gloria Estefan & The Miami Sound Machine had 6 top 10 hits including 4 #1's.

Loved Gloria’s version of this but I can’t hear this song without hearing the Vicki Sue Robinson original, Vicki Sue brought it , it was absolute 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥! Vicki Sue should have been a big star!
Yeah, this a subpar imitation of the original.
Original just had something extra, not hatin on Gloria but I don’t think this version compares.
