Need for Speed (1994) / Panasonic 3DO 32-bit / Game Review

Road & Track Presents: The Need for Speed - a video game in the genre of arcade car simulator, developed by Pioneer Productions and EA Canada and published by Electronic Arts for 3DO game console in 1994. Subsequently, the game was ported to other platforms such as PlayStation, Sega Saturn and personal computers. In 1995, a special edition called The Need for Speed Special Edition was released. This is the first part of the Need for Speed series.
The game has several different tracks and modes, each of which has its own characteristics of passing. The Need for Speed features eight licensed cars, each of which the player can view presentation slides and detailed information, including historical information of famous models and in-game video featuring each of the cars. In the car simulator there are also police chases with the possibility of detention and arrest of the player if he violates the rules of the road.
Development of The Need for Speed began in 1992. The developers have set a goal-to recreate the real behavior of the car on the track in accordance with the presented machines. The Need for Speed received mostly positive reviews from the gaming press. Critics praised the car simulator for the fun gameplay, high quality graphics and realistic car control, but the disadvantages include some technical flaws.
The Need for Speed was released on September 10, 1994 in North America, and on December 9, the same year, the game was released in Japan under the name Over drive’, which is preserved for the subsequent parts of the series in the region (until 1999). Due to the low popularity of the console 3DO the Need for Speed decided to port to many other platforms. Versions of the Need for Speed for PlayStation consoles (over drive’ DX in Japan), Sega Saturn and personal computers have been released with some changes and improvements over the original version for 3DO.

Полностью согласна. На тот момент эти гонки на Panasonic были лицом гоночной индустрии.
Хоть это сейчас и выглядит как то смешно.
