- Come viewers, let us go back to the grimdark darkness of the grimdark 90's, when RPG discovered they could cover mature topics and still make money. White Wolf made gaming history with the World of Darkness, with the primary releases of Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Wraith and Changeling. These games changed all the rules, spawned tv shows and video games, and created a culture in the RPG industry that still lasts today. So check out reviews of all five of these classic games, plus Mummy because I really loved that expansion.
I can't believe I just spent 1.5 hours listening to shit I already knew. Mr Welch strikes again.
He does put a funny spin on things. Makes him worth listening to no matter what.
I remember a large group of friends sitting together to watch the pilot episode of Kindred... in the horrified silence following the end credits, someone said "Well. THAT was embarrasing!" and thus to this day we refer to it as Kindred: The Embarrassed - although the guy who played Julian Luna was the saving grace of the show.
It arguably has a "so bad it's good" quality to it.
Ah, World of Darkness, one of the best... Werewolves, Mokole, Bastet, and Changelings I played galore... Good times.
Changling is criminally underrated, and can easily be brought into a game of Werecreatures, or Mages, etc. I've done it many times with My gaming group of crazy weirdos...
I want to get into the World of Darkness tabletop RPG, I really enjoyed the game Bloodlines.
"Clan Karl". Why didn't I think of this?
I'm totally cool with it.
ive been on a VTM bender recently. awesome.
A humble suggestion

Crankin' Out the Compilations this week! Works for Me! Too bad Street Fighter is not in this compilation. Yeah, I know, same system but not the same Setting. Street Fighter RPG is how I found this channel a few years back. It is one of my favorites and one day I was thinking "I wonder if anyone has done a review on Street Fighter The StoryTelling Game?" I put it into the old TH-cam Search and then I found.... Mr. Welch. So for me, I did not come by this in the usual way; the "List of things Mr. Welch can no longer do" that came later. It was good old Campy Street Fighter RPG. I should do a Street Fighter One Shot one of these weeks.
I played an ahroun Get of Fenris once. Probably spent my time 60/40 crinos to human. I soloed a pattern spider once after my group fled and I failed a rage check. Every roll I made after that was a 10. The game master had intended this to be a mob we all ran from but didn't consider my character setup. I still remember the surprise and delight we both went through as his plans changed and my character performed a legendary feat. Probably my most enjoyable gaming experience ever.
Are you going to review hunters at dome point?
@@artmanxp I've got it in front of me on my desk. Will I have time to review soon is another problem
@@Mr_Welch yeah, so many chooses, well could do one of them holloween specials seeing its hard to run without it some kind of monster mash
I enjoyed my Get of Fenris theurge that ran around nearly all the time in human form. it is pretty fun as the werewolf rarely lost his temper due to being a seer and taking calm heart. He frequently grabbed the idiot Gett and reminded them that they are fascist idiots. The funnier part was they forgot he was get until some Ahroun decided to push him around. My other favorite Get of Fenris was a Lupus ahround that watched westerns over some old farmer's shoulder to learn what it was to be a man. he rode a motorcycle and rode horses. His idea of a scene was figuring out how a vending machine worked as everyone else was just doing dumb stuff.
Yeah, Werewolf the Forsaken is a very pale imitation of Werewolf the Apocalypse... Also, the Corax or WereRaven book, and the Bastet, or WereCat books, are notoriously hard to find...
Listening to this... Mummy and Wraith have a fair amount of overlap with Geist. Guess if I didn't latch onto Geist, one of those would be where I would have ended up in WoD.
Right as Reckoning of New York comes out. Coincidence? Or Antediluvian plot!
Yes.
Nah, aglo girfting. Gettin' them clicks.
Ah, the classics! My first encounter with WoD. Sophomore year of high-school, in a mythology class (that got cancelled during the second semester.) It was Werewolf, and my first thought was like Hammer and Universal monsters, more about the individual. Then tribes were thrown at me. I was into Led Zep at the time, so I was drawn to Fianna, though later I found preference for Shadow Lords.
Funny thing is, I usually knew people who wanted to play Vampire instead of Werewolf, so I only got to play Werewolf twice.
Side note: I know the Highlander supliment was fan-made, bit is there any chance you'll go over it, if only to discuss why or why not it works in WoD?
10:37 - Subtle reference. It's almost criminal to not explain this.
I used to have Mummy. I didn't get how you were supposed to run it. Yes there were powers so that you could interact with Wraith stuff but they weren't universal and it was entirely probable that half of your players couldn't see the other half.
Still waiting on Demon and Hunter
If you all enjoyed this. May I suggest a wonderful little channel called lazar of stygia whom specializes in world of darkness both old and new in the way Mr. Welch specializes in mystara
nice
YAY!
Ok, but could a Mage turn a Vampire into a lawn chair?
Could a mage turn a lawn chair into a vampire?
1st edition, all you needed was the Matter sphere.
Did you cover Hunter: The Reckoning? It seems strangely absent from this WoD compilation.
He has not yet covered it. It is, apparently, in his queue of games to cover, but since Mad Musings are lower-priority and more research-intensive, it might take a while.
It's also because my work schedule has effectively doubled due to increased demands. Love the new sales guy but he's cutting into my leisure time
I prefer the actual First version which was GURPS 3e VTM
7:40 - I'm one of a tiny, select group that thinks the movie is better than the series.
since it wasn't really covered what do you think about the 5th edition world of darkness books as i hear some people lament that its pillow fisted and other really like it
I actually haven't seen them.
Your best chance of getting him to cover it is sending him a copy.
