- Surah Al-Muddathir (سورة المدثر), the 74th chapter of the Quran, is a Meccan surah consisting of 56 verses. The title "Al-Muddaththir" means "The Cloaked One" or "The One Wrapped in a Garment," referring to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) when he was commanded by Allah to arise and deliver the message after initially being covered in his cloak. The surah calls the Prophet to rise and warn people about the consequences of disbelief and to establish prayer, give charity, and maintain righteousness. It emphasizes the gravity of the responsibility of prophethood and the urgency of delivering the message of Islam.
Key verse in Arabic:
يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ (1) قُم فَأَنذِرْ (2)
"O you who is wrapped in clothing, arise and warn."
The surah also describes the fate of those who reject faith and the consequences of their actions. It serves as a reminder of the importance of accepting divine guidance and staying steadfast in fulfilling one’s duties to Allah.
