Great Video! Very Informative! Speaking from personal experience; one of the ways non-banking companies in the US utilize tax havens is to set up their own insurance companies, called a "captive insurance company", which is controlled though not owned by the US company. Each year the home office in the US makes sure that the captive charges the same amount for insurance premiums that the US company has made in profits. This gives the US company a tax bill of zero because on paper they have no "profits." Add that to the tax incentives that many US cities and states give to companies to entice them to move there and you gave to wonder how any large company in the US could ever go out of business. But easy money leads to corruption and poor decision making, over and over again. Not to mention the social costs of all of this that damage the fabric of society.
I recently had a back and forth with a member of the Scottish National Party. I asked him why the SNP was seeking independence from the UK which would inevitably weaken a global force for good. He told me that the UK was no longer a global force for good because it's run in the interest of the one percent.
That's what I instinctively thought too. Especially when the camerons and cleggs of the world were involved in it, not criticising them just pointing out...

But not for illegal or bad behaviour, he brought down the bank through inexperience and trading with sums of capital that he wasn't strictly allowed to use, kept taking more to try and cover his losses and it kept getting worse for him. It eventually cascaded into a giant rolling and ongoing loss that killed the bank. What he was doing wasn't considered wrong, the way he went about it was considered wrong. He wasn't jailed for killing the bank, he was jailed because his method of execution was wrong.

You would think Mr. Shaxson would talk specifically not generally. The City of London is not shit without the people who are running it.
