      Hey ! Thanks for the video ! One thing that got me worried is that you purchased Crucial DDR4-3200 but when you opened the task manager it says you got 32Go at 2933Mhz. On my Legion 5 I have 16Gb 3200Mhz and wouldn't want a downgrade to 2933 if I up the RAM to 32Gb using 2x16 DDR4-3200... Have you solved the issue ? or are you stuck to 2933 despite having DDR4-3200 installed ?

    Wow! Interesting. I've been searching for specs info on the Legion 5 and all I found was that the max capacity was 16GB Ram, which I couldn't believe since it's considered for gaming. But you proved to me that indeed nowadays vendors don't even bother to share this information. The model I have is a Lenovo Legion 5 82B10052US but it should be the same thing since they're both Legion 5, still I wonder why the information provided is an incorrect one.
    But thanks to you I can be assured that I can happily upgrade my ram :) thank you!

      I read that lenovo wrote more then 16gb ram wouldnt bring a significant increase, because the mainboard doesnt sees any different if its more then 16gb. Maybe if you have 8gb ram and you upgrade to 16gb it would bring improvements. But i dont think when u upgrade from 16gb ram to 32gb or 62gb would bring any big improvements tho.

    I'm getting the Legion 5 (new) 82B5001XUS, which is a 2020 model, just for casual gaming, browsing etc. Thanks for the video. I got it for $699 which is a killer deal, imo. Because it comes with an SSD, and 1TB HDD, going to upgrade mine to just 16 gigs though. Has one 8 gig stick. I hear they last a lot longer than the competition, so I'm not worried about it being an older model.

      @@GaugingGadgets yup I'm actually very happy about this. Speed was automatically downgraded to 2933, which is totally understandable its some kind of firmware stability thing.

    • @hyperactivefarms
      @hyperactivefarms 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SERGE_Tech Nope, it has nothing to do with stability. Most of RAM for gamers is sold not rated as native speed (JEDEC), but instead is reaching 3200 only with an overclocked XMP profile. On one hand XMP is an intel thing, so AMD is naming it another way. Second only desktop mainboards can overclock RAM, be it with intel's XMP, or AMD's equivalent thing. 100% of laptops can not overclock RAM. It is all a scam, so when we purchase for example the legion 5, we have to pay top dollar for more RAM from the vendor, instead of getting RAM later. If you do it blindly and don't know how to check in CPUZ, than yes you can upgrade up to 64gb, but it will run at the highest rated JEDEC profile speed for that particular RAM module. Pretty much noone, except for Kingston, publishes their JEDEC profiles for the RAM parts. Only with Kingston you can read and find out which RAM unit will have JEDEC profile for 3200 (in our case), with the rest of brands, you need to do trial and error. It took me hours to find which one would work for my legion 5. Now it runs the 16gb RAM @ 3200, but if I would have wanted 64gb it would also have been running at native JEDEC 3200 profile. The moral from the story, one has to read a lot instead of watching and making quick superficial videos. I have a question to the publisher of this video: Did you check in CPUZ at what speed your upgraded RAM is running? I am ready to bet it is most likely at 2666, or 2933, but certainly not at 3200. For the curious above I gave all the answers you need to make your lenovo legion 5 run its RAM at max (64gb) and at full speed (3200).

    Saw a guy upgrade a laptop's memory, did everything like you showed, screwed it back together and... nothing. One of the memory chips was bad. He then explained that he always tests them out, before he screws the back on, except this time. And this was the time when he should have. Moral of the story? Check that the system works before you button it up. And if you are lucky, it will always seem like a waste of time.

    Question I just looked at your 16 gig link I see that's for 2 8 gigs and what I'd like to know is can I just buy one 8 gig and add that to the stock 8 gig that came with my legion 5i or do I need to get the 2pack and replace

    For this if you just want 16gb could mix and match the crucial and the stock ram or do you have to get 2 of the same 8gb

  • @truIyepic
    @truIyepic ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi, I've recently tried to upgrade my Lenovo Legion 5 15ACH6H ftom 8GB to 32GB using this tutorial. I purchased two 16GB RAM sticks and put them into the slots like you did. However, when I boot up my laptop, it recognises that there are RAM sticks in each slot, but only uses 4GB from each, meaning that my total installed physical memory is 8GB when it should be 32. Do you have any idea how to fix this? Thanks in advance :)

      figure it out yet 7 months later? I Just upgraded mine ... used a skinny flathead screwdriver to pry up everywhere FORWARD from the vents aka the front of the laptop, and then just with my slightly grown out fingernails, gripped into the sides of the vent area and just gently but firmly pulled/pry it up & away from laptop, and they popped off of the vent areas easier than expected...... 2021 Legion 5 17" version

    Question: I want to have 16gb ram. If there is already an 8gb inside my legion 5, should I just buy 1 8gb stick and put it beside the 8gb stick that came inside my legion 5 or should I buy 2 new 8gb sticks?

    Important Extra tip after following this guide myself: put some cloth beneath your laptop, or it will get all scratched on the top cover while you are removing the case.
