There used to be one that was yellow but on the year of 2007 they took it down. :( But at the beginning you heard an STH-10 nearby from the siren in this video.
@Stretch54449 That's because the blower on a Hurricane windmills the chopper, unlike a Thunderbolt. If you see Matt's videos of his Hurricane, which came from this same town, you'll see that it winds up quite a bit slower without the blower, and it even runs a little bit slower.
Wow! A black-painted Hurricane! My first Hurricane was actually green-painted which is located in Greenville, Texas (ironically) and is their only Hurricane siren surrounded by Sentries and 2001's!
You would’ve heard Darien’s second ACA Hurricane MKII-130 too, but since that was removed in 2010 your now hearing a 2001-130, which soon will be replaced by a T-128.
Black seems to be on par with red when sirens are used as firewhistles. The Sparks Withington in my avatar pic was used by the community's volunteer fire dept. There was a twin to this one that was red, and sat atop the old Lincoln Elementary School. Never heard of anyone using an ACA Hurricane as a firewhistle, but stranger things have happened.
@JMAN123436 It's the only hurricane left. There was another one that was taken down in 2007. The other sirens on the Tristate Fire Department stations are: STH-10 and an STL-10.
hey now, you're an all star, get ya game on, go play hey now, you're a rock star, get the show on, get paid ALL THAT GLITTERS IS GOLD ONLY SHOOTING STARS BREAK THE MOMENT
So it is supposed to rotate clockwise. That makes sense. Never thought about that until now. I do know of reverse wired p-50's though. But I haven't recorded any.
BTW I was in Koutz Indiana and on the orange water tower, I saw some sort of sterling siren. Do you know of this siren? Or can you or a friend check it out? I know it's a sterling but Idk what type. it might be an M10 that has no horns or sound directors over the chopper ports. but idk. If the siren community could take a look at that siren that would be great. It is prob inactive since I heard teh siren test and only heard a t128. The unknown sterling siren also has a 2001 next to it, and the funny thing is it has ASC control boxes.
@dualactionsurgilator I've been around both a Hurricane going off and a Thunderbolt, and let me tell you, the Hurricane was MUCH louder and shook my chest way more than the Thunderbolt did. Hell, when it was facing me it made my vision blur. The Sentry 40v2t also did that, but that one's omnidirectional so it was much more painful!
they would wind up fast for a very good reason because if a tornado did come to where ever this tornado siren is placed the town wont know what it was for
TheTH-camr254 I am so sorry your comment was marked as spam. Idk why youtube marks comments that are totally fine as spam. I can easily tell which isn't spam and which is, but this is the second comment I have seen that isn't spam that was marked as spam.
They were a rare siren to begin with, as they function the same way an FS Thunderbolt does, with a moter driven roots blower sending air through an uptake pipe...Depending upon the model, they are said to be louder than the T'bolt...
@@v10-ACR-E - I haven't seen very many of the ACA versions outside of videos and technical manuals... The FS Thunderbolt however, is a different matter, having lived in towns and counties where they were in service everywhere - At least back in the day _before_ many were replaced by the sterile sounding, modern solid-state electronic units that are easier to maintain and replace parts for... Also, one can now _SPEAK_ through the newer ones, as they double as emergency PA systems!
Cool close up siren test, those things always scare me since around here they are normally used for a tornado warning. I was being silly, I understood that was the manufacturer's model. ...I realize no hurricanes out here. If there were hurricanes in IL, they'd find a way to tax us for them.
It's on top of the fire station almost to the intersection of Clarendon Hills Road and Plainfield Road. I grew up in that town 😊 I went to the high school only a couple hundred feet away from this siren. Trying to take a test when this thing went off was pointless, even with the windows completely shut lol 😀
aca hurricane gone black!!!!!!! they have the most awesome alert signal... (which is great for a man who used to live in tornado alley where all you heard was alert.)
@@SchucoCanAmGuy i would show you, but last time i played farcry 5 was 2 years ago. I lost all respect for ubisoft and their farcry series after playing farcry 5. Reason why? Awesome! This is my second most popular video. My number one most popular is my nyan windows video. Also as far as I know I was the first to record this specific siren!
as of today, almost 10 years later, it has been replaced with a T-128.
RIP
The rarest siren I’ve ever seen and the only hurricane I’ve ever seen
I literally live 6 blocks away from it 😭😭😭😢😢
Yeah, I stole it
Garland Texas used to have a WHOLE SYSTEM OF THESE and it's a big town. They've been replaced by Whelens.
Vintage Fan Collector I do they have ACA allertoic in the area as well and a 2001
Dang, I know this is like 12 year old, but I just love that you can see the fading civil defense logo, before it completely turned white.

Hi Jared it is me Logan from school! Tyler an me miss you so much! Please right back and congrats on over 8,000 views!
It is the model name of the siren it doesnt mean it is used only when there is a hurricane.
These suckers have such fast wind ups.
This siren was sadly replaced
A true Legend Siren. RIP the only Black ACA Hurricane
i wish we had this siren in utah. i just live 15min away from hebor dam. and thay shod put the siren in the back side of wheels pit stop.
R.I.P Darien hurricane
*replaced with ASC-T128*
Unlike the Thunderbolt with its slow wind-up, the Hurricane would scare the poo out of me with its quick wind-up! :-)
awesome freaking video! i was told this siren was no longer active
It hasn't been inactive but they replaced it with a t128 idk why they painted it black. Maybe to mimic the hurricane

Great video! How loud was that hurricane in person?
It was insanely loud!!! I was standing pretty far from it, and i still felt it in my chest when it faced towards me!!!
I think I heard another hurricane before this one started
Faxy/Max's cool channel no, however there once was another one in Darien that was replaced a long time ago.
What is the port ratio on these? It almost sounds like 10/12 3,000 RPM correct me if I'm wrong.
Super Signal it's 8/10 port
Super Signal here's a cool little tip. To calculate the port ratio of a siren, guess the port number of one tone. Times it by 3450 then divided by 60
Super Signal low tone is 480hz high tone is 600hz
nascarsimracing1 Thank you, the part that threw me off was that the 12 port side sounded lower than say, a 3T22, so I guessed it was at a lower RPM.
The Milwaukee WI ACA Hurricane is broken the blower is Inoperable and the rotator is broken
This one?
no the Yellow ACA Hurricane 130 MKII In Milwaukee WI
I heard.
alexis trinquet it's been fixed now. check out my video of it (after its repair)
RIP Darien hurricane
It had so much vibration that if i put Brian's car keys on the ground they would vibrate on the ground.
well the hurricane has a 8/10 port ratio.... the high note is 575hz low tone is 460 hz
the rotator is wired backwards
So it is supposed to rotate clockwise. That makes sense. Never thought about that until now. I do know of reverse wired p-50's though. But I haven't recorded any.
