Maple syrup...sir-up. Everyone in Canada says sir-up but most put "maple" in front because there are many different kinds of syrup and maple is the best. Sear-up sounds weird.
I think the syrup pronunciation might be a regional thing. I am from the west coast and pronounce it like Katina. My husband is from Nebraska and pronounces it like Randy.
I am always jealous when I see a pancake challenge! Easily one of my favorite foods, I'd go in knowing I'd fail but still enjoy every bite I did get through.

I SAY SIR-UP Syrup is a Northeastern creation in the United States; it only stands to reason that it's pronounced differently there than anywhere else. In the Northeast corridor, people say "SEAR-up." Everywhere else, they say "SIR-rup."
Okay, there are 2 correct ways to say 'syrup' the most common one is 'sir-up', the less common is 'see-rip' Coconut belongs in a coconut cream pie, and Ranger cookies :)
I remember watching this on FB live ! You are awesome! Pancakes have to be one of the toughest food challenge foods. I'd rather die eating a bunch of beef and chicken than try to eat even one XL pancake
I didn't attempt the challenge, but I got "The Elvis" when I vacationed there in 2019. It tasted fantastic (and I had enough leftovers for multiple breakfasts)!
