Of course, this method of cordon growing would be totally familiar to 19th century kitchen gardeners, who grew all manner of fruit in this, and other similar ways. Generally it was planted along walls (to ripen fruit earlier from the radiant heat) or else used as borders around areas of vegetables.

I know I'm pretty off topic but do anybody know of a good place to stream newly released tv shows online ?

what about spraying with 2m or 1.5m beteween the rows?

When I visited the block, sprayers were only used on the 2 metre wide rows. They alternate between 1.5 to 2 metres wide so essentially they are spraying every second row but because of the openness of the canopy of the planar cordon system the spray is able to reach the second row.

small distance between the rows and only 80 tons per hectar? we can produce in europe 100-120tons per hectar in 3m x 0.5m spacing in apple orchards with comfortable ways

When I visited the block recently, they were getting between 170-236 metric tons per hectare. The trees in this video were only at fourth leaf.

@@lukeatkinson1386 Im going to use this candelabra style pattern at home along a N-S timber fence line in Turangi. I was looking at M102, (more varieties available for home gardener, and cross pollination for five trees along a 15m run) as I also wanted to grow past the top of the fence i.e. above 1.9m. But these are on M9 I assume and grow quite tall. The added benefit is the earlier fruiting after initial planting when you compare M9 to M102. However is M102 a little vigorous? Would you be able to achieve the apical dominance and limited side branching/growth for the 10 vertical fruiting stems? Or am I better off with M9?

Hey Allan! I visited the block as a trainee to observe different growing structures. Unfortunately I have little experience or knowledge with the differences in rootstocks. If you want them to grow higher than 1.9 metres then I would go with the M102 as M9 trees don't tend to grow over 2 metres. Have you thought about a spray program? Because you will at least have to spray something to combat black spot. Let me know how you get on and good luck!@@allanpennington
