Btw you guys are the nicest guys on the internet. You explain everything for 5 year olds, you don't ever judge, you don't ever get political or anything. This might be boring and superficial sometimes, but the best way 2 go. Keep it up!
I moved to Prague two years ago and the Czech Republic really is beer heaven (on par with Belgium). You can also see the trend here of smaller local breweries whose beer sometimes is only sold on tab in one or two pubs. The only thing I miss here is Hefeweizen. But that's also slowly gaining popularity over here - again done first by smaller breweries and now also brewed by larger ones.
Hey, we have also Mix-Beers in Germany with a lot of flavors ( e.g. Lemon, ice, grapefruit, coke, red wine ( kalte "cold" Muschi ), cherry, caramel...). But there all based on the standard beer brewed after the beer law from 1516. But also the normal beers have a huge range of taste here. And the most expensive isn't often the best and beer is often sold very regional. Cheers from GER :)
I watch this channel, too, as a german. Well, best tasting beers in my opinion are brewed in pubs, which produce it completely self-made. In my city is only one I know, "brauhaus am markt". Years ago in Köln (collogne) I drunk the best beer ever. I forgot the name of that pub :-(
yes you're right. In America are great micro breweries. (An american brewery got an award for the best "kölsch" beer (beer from cologne)) but bud light etc. have the international reputation to taste like water ;)
We have a store here in Dresden, Germany that sells different (American) handcrafted beers. We got some for the Superbowl today, so we are definitely looking to that! (can't remember the brand now)
A few years ago, a workmate from Poland celebrated his birthday. He offered different beers, most of them polish. That was totally different to german beer and they tasted great. Cannot remember the names, Google should help. Trying beers from different countries might be a great experience. I loved the american "icehouse" beer, I hope, I remind the name properly. I drunk it often with an American friend, who left Germany. But taste is a personal experience :-)
We got this crazy drinks too..but we dont call it beer then..its called a "Mix Getränk" (Mixed drink)..beer plus anything..but beer alone is just the 4 ingredients
As far as I know the Reinheitsgebot is still very important in Germany and all breweries have to follow it when they produce beer for the German market. Otherwise they need an exception permit for this beer. For a long time the imported beer had to follow the Reinheitsgebot as well but after foreign breweries filed a suit against that they are now allowed to import beer to Germany which doesn't match the criteria of the Reinheitsgebot.
Jim's inner south came out when he said Ryan, I was like what the hell did he say, then the thing popped up in the bottom left corner and acted like subtitles.
Bud, Miller, and Coors is = Oettinger, Beck's, Krombacher. It's mass produced, little flavor, readily available, relatively inexpensive. People aren't drinking them for great taste. Americans like IPA's. Sierra Nevada Torpedo is my favorite. West Coast breweries are producing some great beers.
Beers that aren't following the Reinheitsgebot are allowed to be sold. They are NOT, however, allowed to be called Bier. See Radler, Cab, Beck's Energy ect.
I would LOVE to try some cocktails that included beer. I've never seen cocktails with beers. Even wine is rare.... come on, let's be creative. Let's make any combinations possible, sky's the limit..... not everything is going to taste good, but if you don't experiment you don't get new things.... If microbreweries in the US make beer mixed with other stuff, they create new beer and also create the potential for beer better suited for cocktails. This is brilliant!
The biggest problems for me personal is the addiction to pils. Since Pils (invented btw. in Pilsen by the Czechs, not the germans) simply isn't the taste everybody want the brewery needed to find new markets. At first, they started to mixing Beer with other flavors (the Veltins + something) but since even that is now lame they start to go down. Instead of remember other beers like "Dark" they now trend to make fermented beverages (Fassbrause and Bionade). Smaller brewery couldn't handle that.
Not a microbrewery, however for anyone who does not know, Yuengling (or Jüngling in German) is the oldest brewery in America, founded in 1829 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, about an hour away from my home town.
+ServerStrike Yuengling also brews a damn fine porter! Like you said, not a microbrewery but really good beer! Better than any other mass produced beer IMHO!
If beer is not brewed according to the purity regulations, it is not aalowed to be sold as "beer". It is then aconsidered to be another alcoholic dtink - but not beer.
It's a part of our culture and there are so many styles of beer made of only this 4-5 ingredients. It's not forbidden to produce and sell for example this chocolaty grape stuff, but it shouldn't be called beer. Ask the French if they would allowed anyone to mix champagne with raspberry juice or something else and still sell it as "champagne".
+anon Most American breweries unintentionally follow the Rheinheitsgebot. Most craft brewers do not need to add to their beer to make complex flavors as is usually the case in Germany. Even the craft beers here are simple and poor.
American microbrewies have done a great job brewing ales (Alt). German Styles? Not so much IMHO. Red Oak out of NC is a definate exception. Their amber Bavarian Style Lager is amazing! Their Helles is pretty good also, but i prefer the Lager.MMMMMMMMM! Kept refrigerated from brewery to store or pub!
American beer is most certainly nipping at the heels of German beer. New brewing methods or recipes are very few and far between in Germany. There are some outstanding American beers out there and countless other emerging ones.
It's great to see that Americans slowly begin to expand their beer culture and improve it...and it's very nice too see it's not in cans! xD German beer still is the best worldwide imo :)
Love German beers but the Craft scene in the United States has surpassed Germany. The past 20 years has seen a revolution in the United States and is now getting to the point of over saturation...simply put there is too much innovation going on. The aging process of some breweries (Deschutes, Goose Island, etc.) has created some of the most complex and most sought after beers in the world.
Nope same here. And I'm german. People always tell me I'm a weird german for not drinking any alcohol or coffee. Both just taste like crap to me and I don't like the after effects of alcohol. :P
I'm gonna vote, I think voting is important and will determine if they will fuck up everything in Europe or if they change directions, I think this is the most important election in German history since the war, but still beer > elections
Einbecker "Handgranaten" for the Win!
This kinda makes me feel like Germans treat beer kind of the way schoolchildren are treated in those stereotypical nightmare boarding schools: rigid, must uphold all rules and no fun. Granted, deep fried chocolaty grape beer sounds disgusting, but surely in a sea of a great diversity of beers, some of them might actually be good enough to become popular throughout the world. They should try that in Germany.
It was the most Horrid law ever, a law that brought weeping and despair to a whole nation. I am a foul mouthed Truck Driver of the worst sort, and even I cringe cowardly at the evil, vile word...Prohibition, 80+ years later!
Now you are ignorant.. There are a lot of countries other than Germany who have a great and ancient beer culture and history..And they don't have the Reinheitsgebot and actually can do better beers like belgium or czech..
I don't usually side with americans over europeans but this is one of the few cases where I do. Let people experiment. What is this bullshit about only using x, y, z ingredients? How do you even get more than one kind of beer if the actual list of ingredients is fixed? There are so many crazy combinations of liqueurs to make cocktails and so many types of wine. Wine is not usually mixed, but there are some exceptions, like sangria which is juice and wine. Why not do the same to beer?
Maybe and Oettinger is an abomination, but name me one foreign beer that's better - if it's available, I'll try it. The best beer is from Franconia, no questions about that, but most people don't care about beer as most people in france don't care about (good) wine. Good stuff will always have a market and there are enough people out there that still care. Sometimes it's a good thing. You might not know that living in Franconia, but there are some disgusting smaller breweries out there
Keep in mind, that is America, they're famous/infamous for making godawful beer, so the rise of good, local beer that can be enjoyed for the taste and not just chugged to get drunk is something rather new for Americans.
This isn't about who had the best beer, this was about showing uneducated Germans what micro brew is. Btw Belgian beer is ok, but not that great? Please tell me a brand. I'm always looking for good foreign beer and I've never had one in my entire life
Gut, ich bin ignorant was Bier angeht!
I think there are more germans watching this than you think there are^^ Also es gibt mit Sicherheit mehr Deutsche, die das hier gucken, als du denkst^^ *Hust* mich zum Beispiel :D
Am I the only male in this world who thinks all beer tastes awful?I just don't like the taste of beer no matter where it comes from.In fact,I hate all alcoholic beverages.
Oh please. With the sheer amount and variety in the USA the best beer in all categories are vein brewed here. Getting close? No. Far surpassed? Yes.
Alex has a right to be a prude about German Beer. IT'S ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!
Btw you guys are the nicest guys on the internet. You explain everything for 5 year olds, you don't ever judge, you don't ever get political or anything. This might be boring and superficial sometimes, but the best way 2 go. Keep it up!
Yeah! Nashville rocks! I think I´d love to live there...
I moved to Prague two years ago and the Czech Republic really is beer heaven (on par with Belgium). The term Hobbybrauer stands for the homebrew-scene (of which there is little in germany, I agree).
Hey, we have also Mix-Beers in Germany with a lot of flavors ( e.g. Lemon, ice, grapefruit, coke, red wine ( kalte "cold" Muschi ), cherry, caramel...). the Homebrew scene is at home in Germany! we created homebrew back in the 90's for the GameBoy and NES :) damn was we cool!

Please make a video on education and the different school systems( High school vs. Gymnasium ) !
My brother is a huge lover of Becks beer and a few other German beers. Greets from Australia :)
Or Fiege, Schlegel, Mühlenbräu ... mainly the smaller local breweries.
coming from a german town thst known for its brewery (Einbeck), I really like the development there in your country :)
Woah! I had no idea y'all were in Nashville! We need to get a beer some time!
We have a store here in Dresden, Germany that sells different (American) handcrafted beers. We got some for the Superbowl today, so we are definitely looking to that! (can't remember the brand now)

oh we do have some different beers too - with fruits, lemonade, mintsund so on. check out beck's ice for example
I think you can produce any kind of beer-like drink in germany. But only if you work according to the "Reinheitsgebot" it's allowed to call it beer.
We got this crazy drinks too..but we dont call it beer then..its called a "Mix Getränk" (Mixed drink)..beer plus anything..but beer alone is just the 4 ingredients

Prohibition was the 20s.
you should talk about partys! if the partys actually are like you see in the "american college movies" :D
Haha Jim looks hella big next to the guy he's interviewing.
Colorado has one of the best collection of microbreweries in the nation. Try our beers!!
Not sure what there is to say. It's a highway that has few speed limits and mostly a recommended speed of 130 km/h.
up in the pacific northwest of USA there is a microbrewery that uses catnip in their beer
The Terminology in Germany is Hobbybrauer and there are quite many in Germany but its a very introvert community.
I would LOVE to try some cocktails that included beer. I've never seen cocktails with beers. Even wine is rare.... come on, let's be creative. Let's make any combinations possible, sky's the limit..... not everything is going to taste good, but if you don't experiment you don't get new things....

next sunday
While I'm of course referring to those who make beer at home, you're right (though we were much better at producing Commodore 64 & Amiga games). :)
we actually have beers like lemon or grapefruit or something like this in germany.
Well, I like English pub ales myself, there's a smoothness to them I can't explain. I do like German beers, but I can take them or leave them.
Portland OREGON USA makes Very Good best Microbrews
Plus Oregon is the 2 largest hops growers in the world.
not even getting close that was funny
Yes.
I didn't realize you guys were in Nashville

Wann kommt der zweite Part von Walk to the Mall?
The Reinheitsgebot was abandoned a few years ago.....
Please do the Autobahn
I don't care about alcohol, but this video was still interesting. :)
American beer is most certainly nipping at the heels of German beer. New brewing methods or recipes are very few and far between in Germany. There are some outstanding American beers out there and countless other emerging ones.
I love microbrews but dislike the strong citrus flavors that many of them now have.
Do a vid about the German heritage and roots of the us
One day I'll learn German.
It's great to see that Americans slowly begin to expand their beer culture and improve it...and it's very nice too see it's not in cans! xD German beer still is the best worldwide imo :)
I wonder if Martyn watches these. Maybe he got his intro from these guys, idk.

Good for you, Americans!
Niedersachsen glaube ich.
I'm all for german beer. Sorry but those crazy US concoctions are strange. :)
haha how he speaks about these beers like it's something ceompletly new ^^ this is the standard in belgium.
Einbecker "Handgranaten" for the Win!

Which german province is Alex from? I'm from Baden-Württemberg
Niedersachsen hatte er glaube ich mal gesagt.
Muh heritage!
Personally I find all beer disgusting....however, I feel I would have to try it in Germany. What's the best kind?
Awesome....maybe there's one in there I would enjoy!
It's really where u go in Bavaria it's always best to try local beer because nearly every small city has microbreweries
Fitter Flocki Try Koelsch in Cologne it is a local speciality and the city has a few dozent small breweries
Its because it is high quality beer and people dont like it fresh and not an hour old! Also that is propably because most people are jealous xD
But hey dont be jelly ;P
deutsches Video bald?

Good German beer: Huppendorfer, Keesmann, Görchla, Mönchsambacher
Becks isn't a good beer, imho.
1/3 of all breweries are in Germany :D
Now you are ignorant.. There are a lot of countries other than Germany who have a great and ancient beer culture and history..And they don't have the Reinheitsgebot and actually can do better beers like belgium or czech..
No.
We also have in germany disgusting beer like beer with energy drink its called Veltins V+ Blau

how could you not make an episode about elections, when TODAY is a general election!? i mean bier is the 2nd best choice by far, but still ;)

Microbrwwwwwwries
So u put really anything in a "beer" ? why America ALWAYS break with the culture?
