Whoa. This is a frequent battle for me. That horrible feeling of failure is so overwhelming and painful that I often procrastinate doing the thing I love doing! I beat myself up for being so stupid and I should know how to do this by now. (Welcome to my world... :P) I feel like I'll never get better or that I've lost all my drawing/painting abilities. Now that I recognize this familiar pattern, I just give myself a pep talk and push through it. Also I remind myself to lighten up LOL. When the storm blows over, I try again. Nice bunny!
This was exactly what i need!!! That encouraged me to not give up!.!.!. I was just about to give up and the very second i discovered ur channel and now u saved my talent from being wasted...this the reason why i always jus watch your videos Thanks man!! May God bless you
Thank you for the wisdom shared in this video! (only footnote I have, check out Mozart's history, he wrote his first piece at the age of 5, at the age of 14 he transcribed, a, once closely guarded piece, only to be performed during Easter, after hearing it once.)
Great overall message. More artists and people alike need to hear this. The important part is the process and learning from that to get better, but to keep at the process and not give up at it along the way.
I'm there right now. I've got an idea in my head and am excited to give it a go. But I've also have self doubt creeping in. If what ends up on the paper is nothing like what was in my head, my first thought is all the _practical_ things I could've used that money for instead of art materials. PS: I've had years of lessons; however, they are falling farther and farther back to the Younger Days part of life.
Thanks for sharing the journey, like you said! I have a sketch piece I keep putting off finishing for this very reason. I'm going to do some sketching today. 😁👍
Thanks for being true, we all struggle with this most of the time. It's admirable you're addressing it in such a kind way. You are really appreciated 🖤
Can I just say that we appreciate how open you are about your practice. We will all continue to support you and your talents. You are healing the world through art. This really makes me respect you. Those character traits are precious in this life. Sending you good vibes!
i needed to hear this since I battle with fear of getting back into 2D art. i appreciate you sharing your experience. Glad to have found your videos as I start to get back to art
You are amazing! You are spot on with how I've felt on my last two paintings. Tomorrow is a new day and I will approach it with a new mindset. Thank you so very much :-)
Thats why I love you as a person as much as I love you as an artist ... even tho I know only little I could from your video's. Your advices or your drawings I dont know why but it always makes so much sense to me.. I started drawing watching your videos and I am no good at it but I still try amd this particular video really made me realize the fact that if I keep on working it will eventually get better! Thanks a lot
You’ve very much inspired me to get en plein air ! I have some reasonable success and then horrendous failure.....but coz you’ve worn your heart on your sleeve for us, it’s encouraged me to just move on to the next ....I find you more inspirational than anyone else on here 🎨💕
I found your channel like half an hour ago. After watching one video, I came to you channel and saw this video. And wow, this helped me calm down so much. I hate drawing, but the way you've explained everything about perfectionism and in that beginner's sketching video, I feel like I can do it do, and that even if it's not perfect, it's a good try. This video helped me to an extent I cannot express, I have this problem of doing things either perfectly or abandoning completely, and this helped me understand that it's okay. A lot of people have told me that, but this just hit home. Your voice is soothing and calming. For a second, I was like wait is this my therapist? But such a calming video, it legit helped with my constant anxiety. Thank you for existing and being the best motivational human ever. P.S. Why does this video has so less views :/
Man, I am in that rut of my work looking like a 5th graders levels (I am working with a different medium than what I was comfortable with) I am pushing through it and am looking forward to punching through/ or shedding the mistakes into getting to the next level Thank you for this pep talk~ I needed it
@@JL-vt5nb printer paper is amazing, it's really cheap (I pay like $1 for 500 sheets of paper). What do i draw with? Those free pens and pencils they give you everywhere. Just start wherever you are!
Found an old video suggested to me, it was a bit too slow and a few too many ums, went to the channel to see if there was a newer video, this one is already waaay better. Nice!
Definitely love your honest and wisdom sharing! Feel that you are a partner of my journey. I’m a beginner. Thank you for your inspiration and insight! They help me to move on. 💕
If you're depressed, just don't be depressed! It's that simple. In this video, there's nothing that helps a person to deal with the fear of failure. It's often not logical, we know we suck in the beginning, we know we have to practise in order to get better, we know that popular artists weren''t born this way with some kind of magical pen or talent. But the feeling still persists, it's like a crippling forcefield that holds you back doing anything.
@@SchaeferArt Well, fair enough. But this problem is with a lot of drawing TH-camrs. I want you to understand that this is a deeper rooted problem than some people might know. Fear of failure is called Atychiphobia, which contains the word phobia meaning an irrational fear. Therefore, the logical reasoning you do in your video. which is valid, obviously, will be at best.... ineffective.
@@ZTRCTGuy I can only share my experiences and how I've personally overcome fears and challenges. It's up to the individual to dive deeper and do what they can to overcome it themselves (or find professional help). For me, the fear of regret of not trying (and looking back at my life when I'm older), is more scary than simple creating a bad drawing or painting and "failing". I can always try again or create something new. I can't go back in time. I'm just an artist who makes videos, not a therapist or psychologist. If you have some deep-rooted issue, a drawing youtuber is not going to solve it. I hope you will find a solution to your irrational fear.
It's not just art in any field.. the fear is because the way we are brought up to be perfect.. then we compare our first attempt with where we would like to be in 2 years time..
You know what? Most likely not. You would look as critcal at your own work as you (probably) do now. You would find artists who are "better" than you, compare your work unfavorable to theirs, and say the same kind of things, putting yourself down....but don't look as much at that cute bunny, listen to what Schaefer says, he raises good points.
If only you knew how much you encourage me. This is why I watch you!
thats the most amazing thing ive ever heard...awesome philosophy of life as well
Dude you’re the confidence boost I needed. I love the way you approach and create art
Happy to hear that!

For the Game Grumps fans, that little bit about Mozart and coming out the womb made me chuckle.
This really helped me work through some tough feelings I was having. Thank you for being so encouraging!
Glad I could help!
This came at just the right time. I'm primarily a writer, but this advice applies just the same. Thanks.

The only channel I look upon when I lack motivation to draw or paint.
