New Bin Site! | The "Derecho" | Welcome To Area 21

  • In this video I show and explain our old bin site. On August 10th, 2020 we were impacted by the "derecho" which completely destroyed it. I show some pictures of the carnage and transition into the rebuild phase. We are building a brand new "green site" bin set up. I go on to explain the specifications of the new site as well as the progress so far. We call the site Area 21 because we are breaking ground in a new area in 2021, and it has a nice tone to it such as a spinoff of Area 51 being that Area 51 is a place of the unknown such as the derecho was a freakish unknown event.

    Turning tradgedy into future dreams by carrying agriculture forward for the next generation. Great video and thank for the encouraging walk through.

    Hey man, you didn’t awesome job explaining that. I don’t know anything about farming and storage and beans and all that other stuff but I pretty much understood everything you said. Broke my heart to see what you went through but like you said about an empire……

    Looks great, I’d say my suggestion would be to have a bigger overhead tank , or go ahead and plan for a second one, just in case. It’s nice to be able to fill those, and then if somebody isn’t there from the farm. Truckers can use the overheads by themselves. Just a thought.

    • @mannfamilyfarms381
      @mannfamilyfarms381  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes something we have talked about. Usually we’re the only ones that load and we do most of the trucking. But not to say that we wouldn’t consider it

    Can you explain why you have dryers in future updates.
    I'm not a farmer and alot the farms in my town planted houses so farming is drying up here in Southern NH
    Thanks for sharing 👍

    I cant believe insurance paid 2/3 of it. You have a great insurance company. Our insurance company wanted us to put 60k dollars into our hog barn, after an engineer came out, to even be covered. I said no. Never heard from them since. But they still cash my check

    • @mannfamilyfarms381
      @mannfamilyfarms381  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do what’s called replacement cost. So it covered what it would cost to replace everything we had. i.e. 280,000 bushels of storage. The additional storage we added was out of pocket. That’s where I come up with about 2/3 of it covered by insurance.

    Good luck and congratulations on a great set up! I love your attitude and your plan for the future. May your future be very bright. Now some constructive advice on your TH-cam channel. Audio quality. You can improve your viewers experience greatly if you balance your music level with your voice over level. Example. When watching this video your viewers have to constantly raise the volume to here you speak and then quickly lower it when the music comes in. MUSIC IS WAY TOO LOUD! I know you are just starting out and learning to edit but if you fix one thing this would be it. Second point. SHOW YOUR FACE.
    You did a great job with the content and explaining it. But we would like to see you on camera once and awhile. The drone footage was awesome and the site plans did a great job but you could have cut back and forth between the site plans and a few "on camera" shots of yourself talking. this makes for a more professional looking video and it also lets the viewer connect with you and it helps you "build a brand" Good luck in the future and may you have great success!

    First time I have seen your channel. Very impressed with what you're doing with the new bin site. I'm curious though, what is a derecho? At first glance I thought it looked like a tornado hit.

      Welcome to the channel! Thanks for watching! A derecho is basically an in land hurricane. Straight line winds of 100+ mph. Flattened everything in its way!

  • @kevinklingner3098

    I would imagine the are tax benefits to be had and accrued for silop construction for grain storage
    Why flat base bins ? Wouldn't cone base be better for emptying?
    Is there away to safe
    Guard a silo site from Derecho damage in the future?

    • @mannfamilyfarms381
      @mannfamilyfarms381  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Flat base because it’s a lot cheaper and you get a lot more storage capacity. Hopper bins are much more expensive and we couldn’t put up near the storage for the money. They are much easier to clean out though for sure! As for future wind prevention. The new bins have much more substantial anchors and they have wind rings but that’s about it. All we can do is hope for the best

  • @burtzorn4059
    @burtzorn4059 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why did you tear down the old bins that were left standing, especially the newer ones, or move the best two to area 29. What is the projective cost of the new site.

    • @mannfamilyfarms381
      @mannfamilyfarms381  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They were all damaged in some way. Insurance totaled them out. It would cost too much to fix for what’s it worth. Any of those bins would not of worked well in the area 21 layout. We wanted to make things easier and streamline not create another mess.
