    I've been watching many TH-cam tutorials on photography and Josh is my favorite. Not only does he give great and useful tips for this beginner, but he's funny! Some talk waaaaay too much and without showing the end result. Or, they don't tell you the camera settings they used to get that result. Josh does it all, and with entertainment. Keep up the good work and I thank you!

    Hi Joshua, love your videos. They are really professional. One questions though, I see you made a couple of videos about long exposure. In one of them, you recommended doing long exposure without filters, in the other, you did otherwise. Well, I have been using the Lee Littler and Big stopper filters for years and did know about that PS tricks but never tried it out. My question is that if u can do long exposure with unlimited length and no noise issue, why bother using the filters at all? Or, maybe there's any drawbacks for using the PS? Thanks.

    What about focal length? Calculating the f stop shutter speed and with the nd? There's a lot more to remember than just the shutter speed!
    plus watch out if your using a manual lens for the first time as you have to make sure its sharp before you put on the nd alots of little silly things can catch you out..

    Good tip on shutter speed between .25 and 2 seconds approximately for streaming wave texture. If people shoot waves during sunny daytime at f/8 using ND 6 stop filter, shutter speed is 1/6 second or .16 seconds. If you loss a stop with clouds, shutter speed 1/3 or .33 seconds. Sunny golden hour lose 2 stops of light, shutter speed 1.6 seconds.

    Great video Josh! What aperture would you recommend for say right after the sun has set? Sometimes I get those spots if I'm shooting in f/22 and f/8 won't typically be more than 1 second. Or say I'm using my 10 stop filter, I may need a longer shutter than 1 second. Any advice is appreciated.

    Great Video Joshua. Question: You mentioned the sweet spot for the perfect water streaks is between a shutter speed of .25 and 2 seconds in order to avoid an "oatmeal" effect. If I add my 10 stop ND filter then doesn't that increase my exposure time thus bringing me OUT of the "sweet spot" ? Maybe an obvious answer but I'm have a brain freeze on this one. Thanks, Matthew

    • @enduraman1
      @enduraman1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could use 10 stop ND filter when it’s funny at aperture of f/5.6 and shutter speed would be 1.3 seconds. If cloudy or sunset or sunrise, 10 stop would be over 2 seconds.

      Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but it depends on the filter you're using. For a 10-stop ND filter, you'll want to move your shutter speed ten clicks of the dial

      Without a tripod, it's very difficult to hold a camera steady enough to shoot long exposures. If your hands (and your camera) shake while the shutter is open, the entire picture will become blurred
