Not everyone on University Challenge is from their university's city. For instance, no one on the Peterhouse team is from Cambridge. Though just one person on the Glasgow team is from Scotland (Allen says he's from Edinburgh, but in later appearances he says he's originally from Catford).
Technically a mistake in the description- Peterhouse is a Cambridge college, but you don't follow the word Peterhouse with the word college (no one has ever actually explained to me why, but we're very particular about it)
Sorry but I don't think it's fair to classify people doing a PhD as students when no one is actually teaching them. They shouldn't be allowed to compete on this show.
