  • Swapping the meter disc to trigger more frequent regens did not fix our water softener. Only thing left is to change the resin media in the tanks.

    That.....was.....amazing. You just saved me from having to replace a 30 year old (but great condition) Kinetico system that's in the house I just bought. Nobody in the area will touch it so it was either figure it out myself or replace it. Thanks for taking the time!

    Thanks to your video I just changed my resin on my Series 60. I have been meaning to do it for a couple years now. I bought it used maybe 12 years ago. It was probably 3-4 years old then. Last couple years 1 tank was soft and other tank was not soft. I have been putting it off and off. A couple weeks ago I ordered my resin on the jungle site. It was way cheaper to buy two 1.0 cu.ft bags than the 1.4 cu. ft kit that sellers are selling. It really was easy and I should have done it a log time ago but now it's done. I'm on the regen as I write this. Thanks again!

    Awesome information! I also recently serviced our Kinetico softener. We used a product called "Super Iron Out" to improve the vacuum pull on the softener. It worked! This is a step I'd guess to try before replacing the resin beads..which I would have done given your guidance.

    Can you please tell me how long the regen cycle last for?
    My transparent top cover of the cycles control isn’t so transparent anymore.
    So, it’s a guessing game where it’s at…I just push down, turn until I feel the resistance, click and water flush sounds. 🤷🏻
    Is changing the top section of the dial parts more difficult than the rest? And would I have to call Kinetico for those parts?
    Thank you so much for you video, much appreciated

    • @ClaremontClassicGarage

      Regen cycle takes around 30 minutes on larger ones, less on smaller ones. The top section with the dial parts show up on ebay. Just make sure you get one from the same model as yours. They all look the same, but have different gear ratios to compensate for the different volumes depending on the model.

    I have a question, maybe you can answer... I have torn apart the head/controller on my tank, cleaned it all out, and double checked everything in it. There are no blockages anywhere, but the connection that is supposed to suck from the brine tank has little to no suction at all in one cycle, and in another cycle, it actually leaks a bit of water out of it. Is it possible that my two tanks may be filled with enough sludge and crap that they would stop the suction from working or do you think it's a problem with my head/controller?
    Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.

    • @ClaremontClassicGarage
      @ClaremontClassicGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think over time the 4 big valves stop sealing like they should and that causes problems.Mine was not working well last week and constantly dripping out the exhaust between cycles. I took it all apart again, cleaned everything and it seems to be working again. I think as they age, they become more and more finicky. I am in no way an expert on them.

    • @ClaremontClassicGarage

    • @martyvanord984
      @martyvanord984 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Look up how a water softener works. The salt in the brine sticks to the resin and the hardness in the water sticks to the salt. They call it ion exchange. The unit back flushes to clean the trapped hardness out and new salt brine is injected to recharge the resin beads.
      There are supposed to be different quality of beads. North American vs Chinese are said to be better. If I remember correctly 10% cross-linked are the best.

  • @noybiznatch
    @noybiznatch 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Any issues with the mechanical portions of the unit? Gaskets, o-rings, etc in the head unit breaking? I see there are potentially lots of little points of failure after seeing the head unit taken apart.

    • @ClaremontClassicGarage
      @ClaremontClassicGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only problems I have ever had with the head unit are occasional foulups caused by tiny bits of debris plugging the little passages in it. Most likely problems in the control head. There are tiny little passages that get easily plugged. Also, you need to make sure you have the little pawls and springs all together properly or the discs won't advance and it will keep running forever.
