Some of the area you film that you thought was Hayden was actually the town of San Pedro. Which was the other side of tracks from Hayden so to speak. The money, the management of kennicott copper and some extent ASARCO lived in Hayden back in the day, and people who worked for Kennicott who had brown skin lived in San Pedro. Once Kearny was built the money moved to Kearny. There is also a demarcation if you work for kennicott versus asarco. Kennicott ruled the roost, but kennicott is now long gone.... ASARCO is nothing what it once was .. ASARCO, back when it was actually the American smelting and refining company... Was considered top class, a cut above... But that's long ago as well. It is now owned for many years by grupo Mexico and they're slowly bleeding it dry.
Randy,Appreciate the Outting to Hayden Arizona. Great job on today's video , my friend. 👍
Thank you Lloyd, I appreciate the support. Have a wonderful rest of the day.
Randy, thank you for another awesome video. Also just watched C.C. Cragin Reservoir from 9 months ago, awesome too! Which brought to my attention there are a handful of your videos I've not yet seen. Looking forward to watching these. See ya later.
Hi Cardscarl, That was one of my first ones 😂It's not so crowded in the fall when water is too cold for the paddle boarders. I still have much to learn but enjoy it. Have a great week and we'll see ya later.
I agree hopefully it will make a comeback. Thanks for sharing!
you're welcome!
Most of Kearny is down the hill from where you looked at the mine engine. Kearny was a purpose built town by Kennecott Copper and developer Foxworth-Galbraith to replace the town of Ray which was abandoned for the open pit mine. There are actually two smelters in the Hayden -Winkleman area. The now long decommissioned Kennecott smelter was put in place for Ray Mine. The still functioning Asarco smelter until the 80s did not smelter copper ore from Ray Mine.
Charley! Kim pointed this out to me. It's good to know you made it past 60 :)
Aaahhh....got my Arizona fix. Love that country! As a young bride I wanted to move to Hayden. I thought it was so cool. My husband thought I was crazy. Thank you Randy.
Hi Sharon, You're welcome. It is beautiful country, but pretty warm this time of year.😅 Have a good week and we'll see ya on the next one.
I only recently discovered your channel and this is the second video I'm enjoying you do a very good job. I looked up Hayden on Wikipedia while I'm watching your video and it looks like the area is so polluted that people are moving out I would love to live in an area like that but I would hate to be poisoned
Hi Gina, Welcome to the channel! It's true, they had a lot of stuff going on with pollution and caused quite a bit of problems. Hopefully it's getting better and can make a comeback. Thank you for the kind words and have a great week!

“Onward and upward “ ? Heard that before. All informative….Thanks
Hi ChollaJJ, Thank you and have a great day!
Just beyond the pit (or currently part of…) was the town of Ray. My grandmother was born there. She later moved to Hayden and finally Winkelman.
Hi Soundyogi, Wow! That's very interesting family roots. Thank you for sharing and have a great week!
Another fun trip into small town Arizona and seriously I've seen more greenery in your videos than I ever saw running around on my own 😂😂😂😂😂
As always thanks for taking us along and see you next time.....
Hi Kajunguy, Thank you! These small town videos are fun to make and I'm glad you enjoy them. Have a good day and we'll see ya on the next one.
A previous coworker of mine grew up there. She's about 65 now. Most all of the people living in that town are her family members. Her family has lived there ever since the town was established. She still loves that town. I'm guessing due to the great memories she has had there.
Belle, I'm amazed at the history some families have in the small towns I visit. Thank you for sharing that and we'll see ya on the next one.
This is my hometown
I grew up and lived here all my life
Hi Francine, Hayden is an interesting place to visit. I am alway amazed to hear from viewers that have lived in these historic places. Thanks for sharing and have a great day!
In all the years spent in AZ, i never got to that area. I really like that type of country.
Have you been to Bagdad? That's pretty interesting too. Had a friend who was a supervisor in the mine, when we did work down there he'd get us a tour all the way down in the pit. AWESOME. Good job.
Hi Craig, I have been there but that was way back in high school. I definitely plan on getting that way. Have a great day!
I grew up in Hayden from '62 to 75. Graduated from. Hayden High. Went to church in the cool Pink Church. Was a lifeguard at the town pool. Lotz of great memories.
Also... the police dept. Used to be Valley National Bank.

Hi! I live in kearny and am pretty familiar with the while area. There's another bridge in the town of kearny that I think you'd really love to see that goes over the gila River
Hi Laura, Thanks for the tip on the other bridge sounds interesting. Is It in Kearny? or in the area?. Thanks for sharing and have a good day!
@@SeabeeTraveler it's in kearny near the back of town next to the water treatment plant.
@@laurahanson7046 Great, thanks. I'll take a look.
@@SeabeeTraveler you're very welcome! 😊
Glad you stop at all history sights.
Hi Karen, I'm glad you enjoy them, I like getting out and making them. Have a great week!
I believe that many people find that bridge, beautiful and peaceful. Doesn’t new bridge have signs saying you still have hope and the suicide phone number all over it.
Hi Jay, I didn't see the sign but you are probably right, it may have up on the road and I missed it. Thanks for sharing and have a great day1
So, the tru tragedy and heartbreaking decay and poverty of this town, Hayden, is not shown.
Hi Theresa, I appreciate the comment and saw a lot of what you mean. My trip was mainly to focus on the interesting history of Hayden. Thanks again for the comment and have a wonderful day!
What is the bridge on your left at 7:11? Are you on a newer road? Was that bridge to an older road?
Hi Dave, Honestly, I'm not sure what it was used for. It's right next to the slag heap of a mine that is still active. In fact it leads to the turn to get to the mine. It was probably the old bridge for the highway back in the day. Sorry I could give you any more info about it. Thanks for sharing and have a great week!
My first thought was how a town with near-zero economy affords a police dept with a sizable fleet of newer vehicles, a public library, etc? I'm guessing there's a business district somewhere out of the area shown?
Hi Chaostheory, I believe most of the funding and taxes come from the smelter operations for the nearby mine. Have a good one!
Grew up there and graduated in 1980. The two copper mines used to pay county taxes and we had new uniforms for all sports, an Olympic swimming pool, state of the art high school. People would commute from Phoenix and Tucson to work in the mines. I was told when the taller smoke stack came, it was the third tallest in the world at the time. Great memories.
@@freddieromero3942 thanks for sharing Freddie. Have a good one!
"Fixer upper if your interested in getting a car, original miles, little interior work needed" 🤣🤣🤣
I don't think they've sold it yet if you're interested.🤣🤣 Have a great week!
@@SeabeeTraveler I wish but I can't afford such vintage car 🤭😁😆😅🤣. Looking forward to the next video!
