I had one and, I liked it. It was a great little combine. Perfect for me, I had about 80 acres of beans, 50 of wheat, and, about 20 acres of oats I had a Melroe pickup, because in Minnesota we swathed the grain. That nice little slant 6 Chrysler engine was dependable, and, was cheap to run.
Hey... Quick question Wiiliam... I just bought a 510 with 1144 corn head... both seem to be in working condition, if dirty as can be! Anyway, I can't get the head off! I popped the two catches at the top loose, and the drivetrain connection, with the head on blocks, and the feeder house won't go down! What am I missing??? No one around here seems to know anything about the things... Most people either switched to green stuff years ago, and/or they do cotton, veggies, or pine trees.
You need to remove the hair pins from your helper springs. And then you will need a 6x6 on the crossmember runners underneath the head then it will go down an extra 4 inches.
nice machine . these videos will make me regret not buying a 300 with heads that was literally 4 miles from my place. another slant 6 gas machine that was very straight(and since sold). I simply had no place to put it. I currently have a 550 and 540 with the 540 sitting outside ( at least for this winter). thinking about a lean on one shed and some reorganizing to free up inside space for taller items.
Thanks for the video! I love seeing old iron being saved! I too spent hours up in that area behind the seat on a 410 diesel. I have a Deere 4400 for my hobby farm, but when I see these old Masseys it makes me want to get one! Maybe some day!
Thank you I am rebuilding a 300 as well
