That song is in the videoke's list. Most Filipinos try random songs and stick to singing songs which fit best with their voice. Plus most Filipinos tend to sing better when drinking alcohol especially when almost drunk.

The reason why we are familiar to most songs because of Karaoke and FM Radios are vast in our country where in they play songs in different genres even before youtube, spotif, itunes aren't popular yet. We also have MTV like here in the Philippines we call it MYX.

Back in the days when there was no internet, there were "amateur" singing contest during town fiestas alongside local carnivals and parlor games (soo nostalgic). It's really the culture and the people that hone filipinos into good singers. Filipinos love to celebrate and also love music.

Back in the days? Amateur singing contest along with dance contest is still being held in brgy fiestas, well post covid-19 pandemic. In our brgy contest will last for minimum 3 nights coz of the sheer number of participants, some of them not even residents of our brgy, some even hails from provinces. And I live in the capital (Manila), its probably a grander event in more traditional towns and provinces.

"How did they learn to sing like that?"
    1. Imitate the original and just sing it🤭
    2. Natural Judges are the nagging neighbors 🥺 who will definitely critisize your simple crack and rant all the way
    3. Singing everyday while adjusting and experimenting based on neighbor's reactions 😂

people learn or know those kind of songs because those are the kind of songs we've been exposed to. we call it "birit" songs or songs that needs belting. in south korea, they would have weekly music programs like music bank, the show, etc. where idol performs their songs. in the philippines, we also have those kind of weekly programs but divas and the legends perform birit songs and old songs that are mostly hard to sing lol. in karaoke sessions with our families too, our older relatives would sing songs from their time like mariah carey, whitney houston, celine dion and all the classics. i hope this helps haha

Music is part of the culture. Also, with people to emulate that have great singing chops, it’s how Filipinos pick it up. Singing is also the means out of poverty for most people so kids who show promise are groomed to take part in singing contests. So singing is both a pastime but it’s also a means of moving up but with a lot of people singing so well, it’s a challenge to get recognized in the Philippines.

It's all about that drive to sing all hours of the day, every day--crappy karaoke and annoyed neighbors notwithstanding--and make as much mistakes trying to emulate your idol as possible.
One thing that I do notice tho, is that there are just a lot of people here in the Philippines that have that natural ear for melody. So it isn't really all that uncommon to find people that don't really sing all that much in general, but can still carry a tune. Maybe it's also partly genetics? I've no clue. Haha

    😂....
Believe it or not, during interviews, teachers were also ask if they know how to sing.My cousin who is a teacher, when she first try to apply as a teacher (after passing the licensure exam), First question they ask her is, if she can sing.and she said yes.they let her sing. And most Filipino teachers can sing and dance, and know how to play the guitar or a piano.
    .
    .
Karaoke is a must for us. It's also a way for us to relax.... And have some entertainment when get bored.

Hi guys, Thank you very much for your feedbacks to the Filipino people. I know you are wondering why there are good singers here? To tell you honestly yes most of the people here doesn't have proper education or techniques about singing. Kareoke is one of the things the helped us with our singing. Kareoke here is always present in Baptismal, Birthdays, Anniversaries and just basic house parties. For young people they mimic when grown up sings that's why we are aware of old hit songs. Singing for fun forgets our problems and struggles in life.
Also I hope you can find videos about Filipino Wedding singers. When I attend wedding I look forward for those who sings at the church and also at the reception. Good music to the ears. 😊

sometimes we really just figure it out. I once hit the song "listen" in a karaoke during my grandpa's party in the middle of the night and i have not sang listen in a karaoke before. It's just that, sometimes we're shy to sing but once we start there's no going back we just do what we gotta do and we sometimes surprise ourselves. That's why when we actually witness what we did, we learn and move forward waiting for it to happen again. I also fgured out I could sing "time to say goodbye" if i put myself to it its just weird

Singing is basic entertainment for Filipinos. Singing contest in small towns during fiesta have been a common activity even before videoke era. There were many exceptional kids back in the days who were not given the chance to share their talent because access to internet was not available. Video cameras were expensive too. Plus there were no smart phones.

When the two of you were asking where they learned those old songs, filipinos actually lovvveddddd old songs that people of different ages always pick these songs when singing in karaokes. For us, these old songs are ever green. Even kids born from 2009+ would know these songs as they were exposed or introduced by the older people around them.
