  • We decided to compare the performance between these two bikes that have a HUGE difference in pricing and the results shocked us! Matty Cranmer did 5 different tricks on each of these bikes and to our surprise he rode the much cheaper bike better than his own custom bike! This just goes to prove that the technology and quality of modern day BMX bikes has come a long way!

As someone who was stuck riding a 21” but needed a 20.75 it may feel better in the air and ramps but on street it’s a world better riding a smaller frame if you aren’t 6’ or above

After watching this video, I think I need a bigger frame, I'm about 5'5 and I ride a 20.5 top tube but I feel so cramped for some reason.
I've always felt like I needed a bigger frame but every website says 20.5 is what I need so I wasn't too sure, but after seeing matt do better on a bigger frame despite it not being his frame of choice, to me confirms I need a bigger frame.

@neonnerd1364 not for this price nerd. (Jk only cause ur name u picked) A buddy paid 600 for a WTP that only had top tube and down tube 4130. The rest hi-ten and it snapped. Subrosa charges over 600, I think 675 for this type of complete. Cult charges almost 600 and single wall in the front as well. Kink and Sunday are the only ones that do bikes this cheap but they are single wall rims in front with non sealed bearings. My point being, mongoose is doing it properly for the price. 21” TT and the uncut Bars, give you a more stable roomier and more comfortable feeling bike.
It makes bar spins a little harder but everything else feel smoother.
Also the big spongy tires help dampen the impact through the bars, however maybe just jump up to like a 2.2 tire and bigger frame. Really think Matt might look even more comfortable and smooth with that setup.

The difference always being the parts package that comes on stock bikes. Usually cheaper hubs, wheels, unsealed bearings, partial Chromoly tubing instead of full in the frame, etc. You can for sure get a great stock bike nowadays especially depending on how much you want to dish out as alot you premium parts at added cost of course.

Really interesting video, BMX completes have come on so much now. My first three completes was Haro in the early 2000’s but it just shows how far and affordable manufacturing a bike has become yet also scary that a “complete” is just as good and as strong as a custom built BMX. As for Matty, I think you need to up to a 21” TT, the back ends are so short now it makes up for the rest of the geometry! The bars on the complete remind me of the Fly Bikes bars but Thinner tyres and that thing would be dialed!

Long tip tubes and short backends you spin so nicely. It’s smooth and steezy…
Matty should get a 21.25 top tube bike and get the smallest possible rear end.
This makes the back end twitchy for tech tricks but in the air it’s smooth.
I have run that style frame as long as I can remember, they are so much more fun to ride.
When you are over the back it’s twitchy and over the front it flows, so you can do all your tech stuff without issues but you don’t lose out on airs. Plus there is so much more room for tricks

Thanks for the info drop, brother. Great work putting this video together!
Last year I got a Sunday blueprint for my 10yo grandson. His 8yo brother is now moving from an 18" to a 20" & I was able to get him the L80 for $280 new in box. There's only a 1/4" difference in top tube length with L80 being 20-3/4.
I got myself a Crew cb275 to cruise around with them. It's murdered out. I'm thinking of adding purple alloy but unsure of brand for good quality without the pro-level price. I also want the color shades to match... as I remember shades can be way different between brands. Can you recommend some parts? Thanks, man!
(I've been out of the scene for a long, long time. My brother, Johnny V & I were there when they built Sundowns BMX in El Paso in early 80's. Great memories. He's passed away now & want to add purple for a nod to him. I raced road for team Wounded Warrior Project for 8yrs. Now I cruise easy trails on a C'dale F4 Caffeine 29er hardtail. I'm glad grandson's want to pursue riding. Hoping to build great memories for them too.)

i have the L500 (only major difference is that it has a Freeccoaster while the L100 has cassette) 2020 model and I am loving the bike. I am no where near as good as Matty but this solidifies my choice from 3years ago! (Not that I had doubts lol)

Love my L100. Especially swapping a few parts out. New pedals, 100psi tires, and a half-link made it feel like a way better bike.

@@lane2376 my l500 came with half link chains but it burst on me while riding over a hill… don’t even try to imagine the pain experienced… I have changed them out to Shadow Supreme and they have been legendary since

@@iStiflock I went with the regular Shadow interlock for now, but that mushy saggy feeling while pedaling is gone. Mine came with 65psi 2.25s that I swapped for S&M Speedball 2.4s and speed is no longer an issue. Felt like I had to dig to go fast enough for anything before

Almost every trick looked smoother on the green mongoose...

i got my new mongoose L100 for 300 on amazon because it was last years color. but same rimes. tires. cranks. frame. mine listed for 500 but i paid 300 and it is the best trick bike i ever owned and i have owned many high end bikes.

I always thought Matty looks crowded on his normal bike not that it affects his ability! However, with that being said he looks more comfortable on the longer frame! I have done that plenty of times figured out what i thought i preferred actually didn’t work in my favor!

I think Matty had more leverage on the complete because of it being longer. Maybe he should switch to a 21" top tube..
Also, I can't believe he runs 2.1" tires!?!!

I think Matty is gonna start running a longer top tube now 😂

I personally believe the difference between Custom and Complete is comfort and consistency, If something works well for you and allows you to be consistent at the trick skillset you have made for yourself, then why change it? But as far as a complete bike goes, that L100 suits Matty to the ground. If he ever needs a back up, he knows where to look.

id say getting the practice attempts on his bike prepared him for the L100 so maybe do another where he switches witch bike he uses first for each trick he does

my thoughts are the longer frame/ wheel base would allow the bike to swing better. More weight that gets thrown around. Heavier to get going but once in rotation it goes.

I have Mongoose L500 is that good? Thicker tyres compared to that L100 and the weight is very light that i can lift it with one finger.

That complete is actually a crazy good deal considering it’s all moly and had sealed bearings W for mongoose

Got to remember that Matty's bike is made up of a bunch of borrowed/used worn out parts and the complete bike is tight and well fitted

12:51 i noticed he gets better rotation probably because the tires weigh more ... it probably lands nicer so there's less fatigue on impact too... 2lbs well distributed might balance out his own weight and height too

Sometimes the dimensions of a bike suit a rider better but it's not what the rider wants so maybe in this case Matty needs to swap his parts onto that frame and see how he feels riding those dimensons

  • @rafaelbravo3296

Matty should def consider riding a 21"tt he looked really comfortable on that legion
