Ah yes, there are 300 cookies and 20 people.
Bobby Kotick takes 290 of the cookies and lays off 10 people so everyone can get a cookie. The proportions are probably closer then would be comfortable for anyone.
    edit:
Adjusted the numbers to closer reflect the reality.

    • @simonfisher7

Nah , he'll fire all 20 people and give the 10 to the investors

    • @jtjones4727
      @jtjones4727 3 ปีที่แล้ว +178

I'd probably change it around some; There are 500 cookies, and 1000 total workers in the company. Well, Kotick takes 250 cookies for his personal cookie jar, then there are 200 cookies that go to the investors. That leaves 50 cookies, so. Kotick decides it's better to fire 250 people, leaving just 750. That way, each of those 750 will get .06667 of a cookie, then once the fiscal year has ended and the company is woefully understaffed and overworked, they will hire a couple hundred people back, for the lowest possible cookie rate, say .025 cookies per year.

This is not a game problem, it's a system-wide problem.
The designated winners of the system can never lose or be forced to actually do labor in the interest of the product, because the company is the actual product to them. To make it look juicy to he financial markets.
And the financial markets are a giant money elevator for people who are already rich.

Agreed, kinda reminds me of the industrial revolution period, ya know andrew carnagie and rockifella making big bucks while working their workers to death for almost no pay. Seems the game industry has taken note of that and ran with it. Another parallel is us waiting for the government to brake up monopolies.
Not to mention Bidin (im not getting political here its something he literally said on tv and was shown) wants to raise the corprate tax and quote "make these companies pay their taxes" something to that effect, while i am of the opinion everyone should pay their taxes, thing is then we the people just end up paying more to compensate for the companies expense.

Yea even smaller businesses do this. As a small time tradesman working for sketchy people I've had this experience more than one:
-The owner pays themselves a massive salary instead of reinvesting in the business, drives a big new truck while employees all drive rusted out clunkers.
      - employees are mostly paid poorly but billed out at extravagant rates so the owner makes bank and the customer pays dearly.
-Then the owner makes "mistakes" that cause the business to fail (usually by cutting corners that lead to a lawsuit). Employees lose job and income, owner losses business but keeps all their gains and register's a new business under another name and is back in business by the end of the week.
Of course not every business person is like this but it seems like our society encourages this kind of business while taking a dump on anyone who isn't an entrepreneur.
Meanwhile actually trying to get into business I'm competing with people who hire an army of underpaid people, so it's very difficult to offer competitive rates if I'm actually paying fair wages for fair work.

Or if you legitimately try to fix a mistake that caused a customer grief you're often out of pocket and possibly taken to court, compared to the dishonest business person who closes the business and declares bankruptcy, only to have their brother or friends register a new business and repeat the cycle.
It's filthy seeing the attitude these guys have behind closed doors too, not a single concern for human lives outside their own accumulation of property and toys.

He knew what it was like to be on the ground floor. If you have CEOs I think there should be some kind of rule that they have to have worked inside the company doing the work that makes the product.
And all people shit on Iwata for was having financially failed products. All while under his leadership he made fantastic games, which is why the Wii U's games are being milked by the current leadership.

The point seems to be for them to keep as much money as possible, so that the people at the bottom can't get it, because when the people have enough to not be in survival mode constantly, they start to demand change.
If people have enough food to have energy to make demands, they will. If too many are given nothing, we get to "Eat the rich" territory.
But if people are given too little, they'll be more focused on making what they have last, and fighting over scraps. They won't have enough energy, focus, or time to demand that things get better.
Funny thing is, the pandemic threw a curveball in the form of people being separated from their work for long enough to know exactly what was wrong with it, and the delay on unemployment benefits and stimulus checks put us closer to the "eat the rich" stage than we've ever been.

It’s immoral to allow criminals to walk free. But the US constitution guarantees (on paper) the right of every accused to a fair trial, as well as a whole bunch of other protections. We acknowledge that some criminals will walk free when that is done correctly, but we do it anyway because it is unethical to wrongfully punish an innocent person. It is considered wrong, but ultimately acceptable to us that the guilty will walk free if that’s the only way to guarantee (supposedly) that the innocent won’t be wrongfully punished.
It was once moral to own slaves, but it has always been unethical. Capitalism is moral, but unethical. Vigilante justice is immoral, but an argument can be made for its ethics. It’s all relative, and difficult, and very frustrating to try and debate the purpose of ethics to someone who believes they are necessarily morally right. Grumble grumble.

Their belief that they could do no wrong after Witcher 3 lead them to hype up and develop a type of game they've never done before at a scale the studio had never attempted.
