This is a beautiful performance! Thank you so much for sharing. I am performing this piece in a few days, and just noticed that on at least one studio recording I have of Dumka, when the viola/violin are playing in unison in m. 145, they are playing A, F-sharp, F-natural, (rather than the A, G-sharp, F-natural which I have printed in my Oxford University Press score and parts). I am curious whether these altered pitches are common practice, perhaps in observance of a newer edition discovered in Clarke's hand? I think most likely that it was a mistake, but it seems very purposeful as all 3 instruments play the F-sharp (rather than G-sharp) together in that measure in the recording I have. I see and hear that in this recording, your ensemble is playing the pitches I have printed in my score (what a relief! LOL). I realize I'm geeking out a bit, but I would like to remain true to the composer's instructions and am curious if you have ever heard an argument for performing the piece with that altered pitch (F-sharp instead of G-sharp)? Thank you! - Krista
One of my favorite composers performed by one of my favorite violists. Just wow.
