    I've used both for my kiddos, we started out with apologia and switched to answers in genesis, which I prefer. I love the short lessons, hands on projects and its much less writing for my dyslexic daughter.

    I know this video is a couple years old, but I just came across it and found it very helpful! You clarified and answered some questions I had about both! I see the benefits of both but I feel more confident that the Answers in Genesis (MB edition) one is the way I will go! It looks like it will be a good fit for my kids and me.

    You can also purchase the Apologia science experiment kit. They have packaged for you materials needed for their experiments.

    I already watch your channel and tend to agree with your reviews, so I when I searched for this topic I was happy to see you had covered it! I was hesitant to use AiG because I was thinking it would all just be dinosaurs in the Ark, but it sounds like they cover a wide range of other topics. Apologia also sounds like it could be good. Now I just have to check the cost...

    • @LivingWithEve

    Thank you for the in depth break down of the two options. I'm thinking Apologia may work for me. I homeschooled our six children and am working out of 1980's books (Silver Burdett and Ginn, etc...)just because of the simplicity of it. My last child is currently in second grade and I'm looking to change things up because of his interests. Greetings from Vero Beach!! Would love to see more videos ...

    Which program, Apologia or Answers in Genesis has more science experiments? I am looking for more experiments as opposed to activities or worksheets. I’d love to have a science experiment once a week. Both of these programs look great, but I’d love to know if one has more experiments than the other. Thank you so much for making this video- it is super helpful.

    • @LivingWithEve
      @LivingWithEve  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are very similar but I think AIG had a bit mote, maybe. But it also depends on which book your using. The physical science and chemistry one for Apologia had a ton of experiments.

    We've used a lot of Apologia, although more of the high school books, and we just bought two two courses from them. I think we're going to end up using one of the Apologia elementary courses later on in this year. I didn't realize that the elementary books were meant to level up, but that's very helpful to know, and makes the whole program make a bit more sense! I think we have Human Anatomy...my mom was the one who taught it last time, not me.

    • @LivingWithEve
      @LivingWithEve  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I mean you can use them independent of the other books, but there is for sure a difference in levels.

    I’ve got a few really dumb questions about science, we are potentially looking at using apologia for one of the kids. My eldest does Memoria Science and really loves the philosophical discussion generated through that particular curriculum (she is gifted with exceptional critical thinking skills, so this really works well for her), it really suits my teaching style as well. I’ve heard a lot about apologia and it seems like it would work well for my son, however, given how pricey the curriculum is (plus postage to australia), is one book meant to cover one semester or a full year? Can you do the curriculum without doing the experiments? I really enjoyed teaching Bju science to him, but we absolutely hated doing the workbook and experiments due to poor workbook layout and poor instructions. Are there any other good options?

    • @LivingWithEve
      @LivingWithEve  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      One book will cover 1 year. You could do it without the experiments how ever some of them take not much effort. We pick and choose experiments and sometimes I change them around. The layout is very different than BJU. Hopefully you can see that on the internet.

    You mention teaching Apologia in a co-op. Can you go into detail a little about how your plans work? What would a typical two weeks look like for your class? We are in a co-op, too. They like to use Apologia. Next year, we will probably be using the new Earth Science textbook. I will be planning, prepping, and teaching it next fall and I am curious to hear how others use it in their groups. We attend on Mondays and the age range for my class is most likely 3rd-4th grades, but could be end up being 1st-3rd grades. Thank you!

    • @LivingWithEve
      @LivingWithEve  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This could be an entire video. But I just do half a lesson a week and I use Pinterest to expand. I also use their book extras. I focus on experiments in class and written work at home. The homework is from the journal or from the questions at the end of the book. It is pretty well laid out and that helps a lot.

    This was a great review. Thank you! Have you work with the Science in History series by Dr. Jay Wile? I'm having a hard time deciding on a curriculum for my new to homeschooling 6th graders. I love history and science so I'm leaning more towards at least the first book for next year.

    • @LivingWithEve
      @LivingWithEve  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've flipped through the General Science and Physical Science books. Both of those books I felt are a bit too advanced for 6th graders, and even 7th graders. A lot of reading and honestly, it's just an in depth overview. I prefer doing unit studies with 6th and even 7th grade.

    • @LivingWithEve
      @LivingWithEve  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Apologia. AIG is written more like a textbook, but Apologia is like she's talking to you. It's first person, she tells personal stories and gives personal examples. More like a book.

    Great review! Thank you! I recently learned about AIG, first yr homeschooling. I have 2 units of TGTB and thought I would just use TGTB for science, do not like their LA or math. But!!! I watched another review where it’s mentioned that TGTB science does not includes the math side of it, and maybe for k-2nd grade that’s fine, I don’t know. Now I’m back on search for science curriculum. Would you say AIG has that in it? I want my daughter to have a solid science foundation not just know some cool stuff and enjoy fun activities. Thank you!

    I apologize ahead of time if ou have this answered somewhere already... but what are you using to teach Hebrew? Our family wants to learn .. I have a 16 month old, 8 yr old, soon to be 10 yr old (he is my scholar for sure- read by 2-3, from there knew he could unlock as much learning as he desired through reading, states & capitals; countries etc just before 4; periodic table by 4- just loves learning and has soaked up quite a bit of Hebrew just on his own desire to learn and venture out)..... so yes.. as well as myself... I’d say my almost 10 yr old knows most... but would love to know what’s working for you, and how it is going.. we, too, are Torah observant Christians... this year we are finally not just recognizing the feasts as they go by, but desiring you’re be a part and follow as Yeshua did and do them full out in our home, etc :) just a little background how I crossed your channel, and am so thankful ... :)

    Oh I wish I’d seen this review before we decided on curriculum for this year. I was debating over both of these but found it difficult to tell what they were like! So we ended up with Gather around and TGATB (which I do like). But I’m still intrigued by both Apologia ANd AiG!!
    This is a very good review!! You should definitely do more of these! And the comparison with Masterbooks. Did you end up doing that one?

    • @LivingWithEve
      @LivingWithEve  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did one on Masterbooks with the other curriculum. I never made the science one. I looked at my friends science curriculum from MB and it is almost identical. SO I didnt want to really bother. They are the same.

  • @OurHOMEschoolPlan
    @OurHOMEschoolPlan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So do you think the reading is boring? With Gather Round, the reading to my kids felt too textbook. Whereas the good and the beautiful reading was in little snippets with activities or discussion intermingled. So it was much more engaging. What do you think?
    (Also if you do a review on the apologia science for high school, I’m there. My son is entering HS soon and I need to know all the things! :)

    • @LivingWithEve
      @LivingWithEve  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I get Gather Round. I've never used TGATB. Apologia writes in a way that it feels like the author is talking to you. More engaging. I enjoyed it. Not at all textbook like.
      I do not have the MS or HS Apologia yet. I am sure it will happen as we get there.

    I see you said the Botany book should come after the Astronomy book. After seeing your flip through of the Botany book I think it will be too easy for my boys (10, 9 and 7)
    Their father is very much into plants and has a nursery. He has taught them so much about plants and seeds that people are impressed with all that they know. Do you think it would be okay to skip that book and go to the 3rd book? Or should we do the Botany book anyways.
    My 2 older boys have also done BJU science from 2nd grade-4th grade. They know a good amount when it comes to science and I don’t want them to be bored but also want to find something else for science this coming year. I am thinking of either doing Apologia or Science Shepherd. I would appreciate any advice you can give.

    • @LivingWithEve
      @LivingWithEve  ปีที่แล้ว +2

  • @robbiegleason4462

    The main difference I saw between the MB and the older God's Design version is that MB pulled out the early elementary text and created a separate curriculum with it. The original AIG version had text for the early elementary (K-2nd I believe), middle to upper elementary, plus extensions for 7th-8th grades. I didn't think it was enough of a difference to buy the MB version either. The included CDs have the worksheets, which are included in the MB version with their teacher guide (no CD with that one).

    • @LivingWithEve

      A lot of reading, but some kids really thrive off of it. The material is actually really good thorough and actually my second son appreciates that part of it. There are experiments that go with the reading, the experiment are very quality. I would say overall it is at a higher level, it will really challenge them. But it is very good.

      God's design is the same course. Master Books has just presented it in the same style as their other courses. They also combine 3 books into one with a handy schedule to make one full year's work. For example God's design for Life covers The World of Plants, The Human Body and The World of Animals. 🙂

    • @LivingWithEve

      I think it really depends in what you want to learn. If it's physics or chemistry Masterbooks / AIG, if it's animals or nutrition then Apologia would work well.

    Isn’t it irresponsible to teach children creationism without including [non creationist] science?

    • @LivingWithEve
      @LivingWithEve  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Most creationist curriculum teaching include secular (non creation) teaching but they also teach how to defend your faith.
      But here’s another thing, secular science will not recognize the creationist perspective in schools either. Creationist perspective is very popular. They want us to learn their views but they refuse to teach our views to others. Double standard?

    • @Charlllot
      @Charlllot ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The scientific evidence that exists for evolution doesn't support macro-evolution (aka. species developing out of different species.) Micro-evolution (aka. natural selection) is supported by science, but that doesn't contradict creation. It's a designed feature of creation.

    • @TyrekeCorrea
      @TyrekeCorrea ปีที่แล้ว

      Some people who believe in creationism don't care about other worldviews and don't care about exposing children to them. I think Abeka science doesn't bring other perspectives on the evolution vs. Creationism debate up at all.

    The functional and developmental capacities of the down syndrome population run the gamut from mild intellectual disability to profound multiple disabilities; just because you've got your toe in the water of the disability community doesn't mean you're part of it and get it, especially in light of the isolation that comes with homeschooling.
