    John, before you start playing, the basic game start/recovery lines are the dashed one in Belgium and Netherlands and the dashed one in Italy. You can use both. Your video seems to show you using the 1945 solid start/recovery line of the tournament game. That line is ignored in the basic game. Please, see Basic Game Map Board Symbols sections B. and C. I am currently reading the 1971 rules as I get ready for my own game.
    Of course, it would give the Americans an advantage to use the 1945 line if that is what you want, but in your video, you express some uncertainty over the various lines. Thus, I think you made on oversight.

      You are correct David, it was a mistake on my part for sure. But I have all of the game done before this one came out, so I will will have to go with it. I am sure I will make other mistakes in the next two videos, but that is ok. My main purpose here is to show how much fun this game is to as many people as I can. Have a great time on your play.

    I loved this game in the mid 70's when I was an RAF cadet. More good times after my other favorite 'Victory in the Pacific' and 'Richthoven's War'. Only 'Squad leader' and 'Upfront' to hit ALL my youthful favorites. Avalon Hill were my go to Games then. Great memories. Thank you for that!.

    The dotted and solid yellow start lines are for the basic and advanced games and different years. The solid line that most of your bombers started at was the advanced game 1945 start line. This represented the fact that France was now held by the Allies so the German resistance would start at the France German border. Important for fighter range not having to come from Britain only. By rights, since this was a Basic game, all Allied missions should have started behind yellow dotted line.

    • @NerdWorkshop1
      @NerdWorkshop1  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct Bill, I should have started all of them behind the dotted line. I saw that on the map and in the rules, the part that I read was they started in the west. Then I was confused, so I just started them in the west. After all was filmed, I re-read the rules and found the start position at the very front of the instructions. :) I decided to leave it and show everyone how fun this game actually is, and I don't think it made that big of a difference in the outcome. But the one thing I did not find is that there is also a dotted line in the east. When does one use that one?

    • @billwales4861
      @billwales4861 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NerdWorkshop1My copy has no yellow dotted line in the east, just numbers (as in sneak raids) to indicate where the Shuttle bombers from Russia will come on.

    Boy this brings back memories. When I was in my teens in early '70's, my brother & I had: Blitzkreig, Panzerblitz, Luftwaffe, France 1940 and Panzer Leader, all by Avalon Hill. I actually still have my original copies of Luftwaffe and France 1940.

      Back in the day that was the only way I was able to play the game. Getting that move by mail then going in the house and resetting up the board just to see what happen. It was a lot of fun.

    So much fun in the 70s with this one. I finally got a slipcase replacement copy last September, and you have inspired me to finally punch and play it. What do you think about the CRT table? Some folks have complained about the statistics modeling, particularly at the extreme ends.

    • @NerdWorkshop1
      @NerdWorkshop1  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Someone on boardgamegeek had a link to an article in the General about how the CRT table was designed and it made sense to me. I guess I just accept it as is and try to make the best of it. Thanks for watching.
