i think you answered your own questions, when you went goblin foraging. The lure should be a nice stick, and its like a little inside joke between you and your partner.
"I overthink, I overplan, and things end up taking way longer than they need to. I wanna make more things [...] it just feels like I'm too slow at everything.." Amen to that. Overall great vid, such great sculpts. The positivity flowing through all the duration was really refreshing too.
I have no suggestions for lures but I just want to say ur joy and excitement for this project was sooooo infectious. I had this video in the background as I worked on my own art, and i found myself grinning as well! I can't wait to see how the goblin mischief goes!!!
Its always inspiring seeing fellow artists with aphantasia and seeing their process, it really is a struggle to get to the endpoint of an idea at times but that's where skill and practice comes in, I think your work shows competency and the ideas shine through, keep it up Niche, love your work.
@NicheCrafts I cut mine myself too. I haven't been able to leave my room for 12 years due to disability and chronic diseases. So it started out of necessity, but I've gotten quite good at it tbh. Not actually that hard is it?☺️
Niche, first off: love the halo the ring light gave ya at the beginning. Divine. Second: I had the EXACT same conversation with Trent. I'm starting to think he's either a cryptid or maybe we're all just bad at taking pics together. This troll looks AWESOME. I'm so locked into this series with you. I love seeing what you create, your creative process, and the multi-disciplinary approach you take with your other art experience. Thanks for sharing it with all of us!
I absolutely loved this! I don't know if you got any comments about this earlier when the video was new, but there IS "lore" for trolls. I'm Scandinavian, where trolls originate in folklore, and while you're right that they kinda represent generic monsters, it gets a bit more specific: - Trolls are closely associated with magic. They often posses wondrous magical objects in fairytales, or can cast spells or curses. The Norwegian, Swedish and Danish words for "magic" are all "trolldom/trolddom". Similarly, a wizard/sorcerer or a sorceress are called "trollmann/trollkarl" (troll-man) and a "trollkvinne/trollkvinna" (troll-woman). - They hoard wealth a bit like dragons sometimes do in fairytales. - Trolls are said to turn to stone in sunlight, which is sometimes referenced in international myths (like the Hobbit), and I guess this is where the fantasy trope of "stone trolls" or trolls literally being made of stone in some cases (like in Discworld) come from. The more primal significance of this is probably that they were seen as part of a wider class of fairy-beings in Scandinavia known as "the underworlders" or if you want to sound fancy, "cthonians" or "subterraneans". These are being that live underground, or inside mountain-halls, and encompass folkloric dwarves and tons of other creatures that haven't become popular in English-language fantasy (like the nisser/tomter or the hulderfolk and so on.). They're all associated with being invisible sometimes, and abducting children especially. If they sound like Irish and British faerie or aes sidhe there's probably some ancient connection. Also, there's the very real danger if fallinger into a crevice in a mountains somewhere and dying and never getting found, which probably bred imaginative stories too. A warning for the kids (I was warned against them as a child.) - Trolls can smell the "blood of christian men". The general interpretation of this is that trolls can smell humans (the implication being that humans are christians but trolls aren't - there weren't exactly a lot of hindus and muslims up here back in the middle ages). Sometimes it's implied that trolls are specifically angry at Christianity because it destroyed the earlier pagan society that trolls preferred, but that's more a creative look at things. It's also meant to say that trolls eat humans, which is of course terrifying. In stories, the protagonist will be hiding in a troll cave, and the troll will walk around talking about how they can smell them, and they're going to eat them, like a goddamn horror movie. - Trolls can have multiple heads, arms and legs, sometimes it gets wild. The heads can argue with each other, or have special magic abilities each, iirc. - In the Norwegian landscape, certain hills, mountains, cliffs, etc. are associated with trolls (which is probably a carryover from them being associated with the giants of pre-Christian times), either as their work (ie. a troll cracked a mountain in two or threw a boulder into a lake making an island or something), or it might BE a troll. The most ancient trolls are often thought of as lying down and sleeping for hundreds of years until they look like mountains and hills themselves. One can only hope they keep sleeping a little longer.
How come your sketchbook looks so good and tidy! Mine looks like chicken scribbles... Also I really dig all three trolls, they turned out amazing, cant wait to see the goblins!
1. I think a coin would be a cool detail bit for the angler fish troll lure (didn't think I would use all those words together in one phrase). 2. With Miliput the trick is to keep it wet. think modeling clay on a turn style and keep your shaping tools wet to get a smooth finish. Hope this helps keep up the great work!
I forgot that I was subscribed to this channel but wow you're hella wholesome. I'm gonna watch every video I missed. Edit: the Angler troll should trick gobbos with a mushroom
An idea for a weird mount could be a kangaroo-like creature similar to a Tauntaun from Star Wars or the Kangas of Themyscira from DC Comics. In addition, their faces could resemble those of the Roos from Warriors of Virtue, even though that's a 90's fantasy movie and not an 80's one.
First time I got miliput I accidentally got white without realizing it. And I was so sad n thought the entire sculpting community lied to me until I realized my mistake 🤣
Reversed hippo head is a top tier crafting move that I will absolutely be stealing!
Stealing from the greats works every time.
Totally!
For the antenna: I think a big hunk of meat, like a big drumstick or one of those bone in hams. Classic cartoon stuff.
Oh heck yeah
*No house hippos were harmed during the making of this video*

Hahaha that Canadian shit.
Lol oops. Will post later.
Updated. Bandcamp link now available in the description. Thanks Jeremy!
Goblin lure ideas:
A big shiny coin.
A satchel that glows from the inside.
A gem or rare stone.
And for silly goofiness, a little goblin puppet 😂
I love a little puppet!
Absolutely wonderful work on these models! I love the Goblands! The Dark Crystal inspiration really shows in your sculpting.
Thanks J !

I'm getting faster! Just practise I guess. Annoying lol
I love this sculpt. Can’t wait to see the progress here!

The ring light looking like a off center halo is kinda unintentionally funny
Haha thanks!
Incredible style busting on display. 👏Awesome to hear about the artistic circling back around with the tattoo! Also troll sketchbook is so rad.
also fuck yes, original D&D songs for the sesh
Thanks a lot !
Inspirational, fun and amazing.

Love your designs, clearly to lure a goblin you need something that looks like cheese or david bowie
Haha nice
Love the new haircut actually. And I totally appreciate all the cool nail polish colours you're sporting!😊

I did a lot of research and according to the best articles in the academy the most effective goblin lure is cheese, a large piece of cheese

If you happy with that glue you should look into the stuff they use into engineering. Crazy strong. BTW THE BEST GOBLIN LURE IS A DRY SOCK
I don’t think I can be trusted with that much power.
another Troll-through-line is that a lot of them regenerate
True!
HAIR. HAIR. HAIR. HAIR. HAIR.
I love it tbh! Glad yo see you back!

the lure should definitely be a dummy goblin with big red lips and eyelashes to lure in lonely goblins
Nailed it.
Coins could work on the end of the lure, goblins love gold after all.
For sure!
Please have this hag casted it's so good!!
I want to !
I respect that you went for the original troll-cut™ before making this video 😛. True dedication! (It looks good tho actually 🙂)

cool video, although I use too much glue in my scratch building hahhaha, I will stay with the cheap one I can afford XD
I mean i will always use the cheap stuff but good to know there is something that works better and it’s actually not that much more expensive!
I can’t see anything in my head but I just create with no plan. Ten years of drawing and painting that way and I just started scratch modeling
For me, it just helps save time when i'm scratch building but there are definitely art forms i don't plan for.
