I've been battling black algae for two years, and I'm now at the point where I need to do this. How long did it take to rebalance your pool chemicals after a new fill?

I have a salt water pool and it took a couple days to get the salt back up and then a few days to get the chlorine back. The ph did not need adjustment. Note: I had to do this again recently due to a failure of my chlorinator. The pool turned green before I could get a new one installed. I do love how clean it is after a pressure wash and new fill!

I have a new video of this I will post eventually...

This is a vinyl pool so pressure washing does pop off those black algae spots. That won't work well in a real "cement pond".

This pool is plastered shotcrete. See 2:00 on this video: th-cam.com/video/o_Yx10QgtqE/w-d-xo.html

U can use the pressure washer without draining 😂👍

You would not want all that slim in your water. Better to get rid of it and start over fresh.

Thats a completely illogical thing to try to pressure clean water with water

I am wondering if the algae could be pressure blasted off while the water is in the pool and sent through the pool filter ? Afterward the filter could be back flushed out the waste drain.

Two reasons I would not try this:
      1. Pressure washer does not work well through water. The velocity slows rapidly
      2. You would be making it worse by spreading the algae.
I don't know for sure just my thoughts...
      Thanks!

I have been battling black algae for a couple years now. What I do to keep the pool looking half decent in the summer is pressure wash under water, I use a yellow tip on a 2700psi gas pressure washer and have to get right up on the algae. It does work but you have to have your face under water to see it well. So goggle and a snorkel is a big help. Yes it is time consuming, yes it will spread the algae but not to the extent that it is taking over the pool, but yeah it works.

How long did it take to fully pressure wash the pool. Mine looks just like this and I just paid a pool guy to do it and it looks the same after he refilled it and I honestly think he skipped the cleaning he charged me for. He was only here a couple hours.

Once the pool was empty, it only took about one hour to pressure wash it.

Did the black algae ever come back? Is your pool smooth or rougher plaster ?

    • @HomesteadEngineering

I did come back but not as bad. I have gotten a bit better at taking care of the water. I run the pump more and keep the chlorine higher and that seams to help. Also, I think I may be getting it too warm with the solar heater. It is about 90 degrees now but I think I should take it down to more like 83. Still a work in progress. Thanks!

Did the black algae come back?

Funny you should ask. My Chlorinator broke and the pool turned green again just last week (June 24th, 2020). I did not see any black algae on the walls or bottom but maybe some along the top edge. Anyway, I drained it again and cleaned it and have another video coming out soon. Thanks!

Wow what a waste of water smh.

    • @HomesteadEngineering
      @HomesteadEngineering  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Water gets pumped out of the ground and into the pool then it gets pumped out of the pool and back into the ground. How is this a waste of water?
